How can you get extra BHP without performance upgrades?

Hi all

Me and my mate have the same Honda NSX Super GT 06 and he said he hasnt done any upgrades that effect the BHP but his car is 501 bhp and mine is 490 bhp. I have done oil change as has he and neither of us has rebuilt the engine. Is there any other settings that increase the BHP like LSD etc. Also how much difference will this make on lap times?

Sounds like engine wear milage differences, with him not driving it as much as you.

That or a PS / HP conversion difference (plus a tad bit of wear).

There's nothing else I can think of that would increase your HP that much (other than new car break in?) without a mod.

Sorry whats PS / HP?

He actually gifted me the car so its defo not me doing more miles because he plays more than me anyway - Would new car break in make that much difference?

That would only be a 2% relative increase, seems reasonable for break in.

HP = Horse Power
PS = Pferdestärke (metric horse power, usually a higher number than horse power when comparing the same thing (not much higher though)).

Well I hope when he gifts it to me it transfers the run in engine too. If not what upgrades can I do to gain a little bit of BHP but not a lot as I can't go over a certain level.

the solution is to drive ur car , the HP are gonna up. And change ur oil.

O.k o.k will someone please give me some help!!

I understand the tuning process, and i've always thought that the more you run an engine in it gets more powerful (up to a point) and depends on mileage, oil, engine refurb etc......but....

I bought a brand new type R nsx '02 tuned everything including oil change, and used it for quite a few races..(21 miles).....oil is still in good condition and I can't yet do engine overhaul (or need to) obviously....its pushing out 423BHP/7700rpm

I just bought another Type R for a friend who's just bought GT and I did everything the same with regards to tuning....Its already pushing 446bhp/7900rpm and i haven't even used it yet?? whats happening? and yes i've checked everything....twice

Just because it looks clean, doesn't mean it is. Change the oil, let us know.

The first car isn't fully tuned or otherwise in full check. Simple as that. A fully souped up NSX produces 446 bhp without breaking in (as does car #2 in your example) and as you see the rpm of maximum power is different between the two which leads me to believe there's a difference somewhere, possibly in the exhaust side.

sorry guys didn't realise anyone had replied....yep, took it for a spin....checked oil and all parts again. its still pushing out the same bhp...... very strange.

i'm wondering whether what order you change oil and tune your car in makes a difference??

I've got 3 old chevy camaro RM's that are all identical.....apart from 1 is pushing out about 20bhp less. very odd indeed.

No, you're missing a part or two for power. Unless you've racked over 3000 miles and the engine needs rebuilt.

As stated above: The NSX has 446hp with oil change, at 0 miles, if you have less, you've either driven across North America, or missed something, I'd bet oil change.

Hmm, maybe a part has been accidently missed or you've accidently fitted a lesser part by mistake i.e. sports exhaust instead of full racing. A part might have accidently gone to your items list - something like that.

Just because you have bought a part, doesn't necessarily mean it's fitted, check to see that everything you bought is actually activiated and fitted to the car, then check the power limiter too, maybe that has been accidently changed??

Either way, if everything has been 'fitted', not just bought, but actually fitted to the car, power limiter is 100% and oil has been changed and it's definately the '02 NSX, then yeah, something is not right.
