How do I drift?

Hi guys i'm new... as you can see this is my first post... yah, I guess I can be called a noob :indiff:

Anyways... can someone tell me MOST BASICALLY how to drift? Like what buttons to you press down?

One of my friends told me to hold down (on PS2) the circle (handbrake) and X (Gas) at the same time and turn. Is this true?

Thanks,
TranCe

That should help you put. Essentially though, you go into a corner and apply lots of throttle (x) button to make the rear wheels spin thus causing the rear of the car to go sideways, you then countersteer using the directional buttons or analogue stick and apply more or less throttle to maintain the angle of the drift.

Spec....

drifting is easier with a wheel :P but i remember pulling off some crazy amazing drifts with the dual shock controller :P.

Do this:

Buy the Mazda RX7 Infini III. Put a semi racing suspension under that bad boy but don't add power and keep the tires stock.

Take it to Laguna sEca. In some of those corners, the Infini will kick its rear out as you hit the gas. Turn in the opposite direction of the "kick" (this will keep a spin from happening and is called counter steer).

Eventually, you'll be able to keep the rear-end skating sideways and the front tires turning in opposition... now yo're drifting 💡

For me, my first drift was in a much more powerful car: the Viper GTS (this is in my GT1 days). Once during a Grand Valley race i went into the first corner on a bit of a slide. I hit the gas, countersteered and voila...i was drifting! I had no intention to ever drift..it just happened.

There are MANY methods of drifting, the easiest is probably hand-braking (E-braking), turn into the corner, pull the e-brake[or push lol], make sure to ease on the gas and be sure to hold the joystick/etc in the opposite direction of the turn. im not the best at explaining...but that is the easiest way of doing it

Really you could read and read on how to do it but its just something that you have to feel. When you get to where you can drift in the game its more of feeling the traction loss, not literally of course since you can't actually feel....hard to explain really. But i would change the gas\brake to the right analog stick because it gives you much more control. I don't have a wheel and i used the stock button conig for about the first year i was drifting. Then one day i was like, duh! So i changed it to my liking. Hard to get used to the analog stick at first but after a day, soooo much better. Just use the search button, its your friend. There are tons of threads about learning how to.

Amen. For me, i switched to full analog after i figured out how to do it in the options screen. I'm one of those guys that (as a kid) had tons of remote control cars that had 2 sticks on the radio (one for gas/brakes and one for steering) so it only seemed natural to use the analogs in GT. In fact, it improved my game (GT1 days again) so much.

Before analog, i was trying to race a Camaro at Autumn Ring in the Sunday Cup. I was like "this game sucks" cuz i kept spinning out. After i figured out how to switch over to analog it made everything heavenly.

Yeah cause even though the PS2 has pressure sensitive buttons they just don't work all that well. Its either, WOT or nothing. And if your drifting a higher hp car (all of mine are over 600hp with sims) it makes it really hard because you need more precise control over the throttle. Analog sticks give you more control, wheel and pedal gives you even more....wish i had one!

Those pressure sensitive buttons only work it seems if you're sitting there just revving your engine. when you're acutally racing, it's really hard to modulate and get the right amount of fuel or brakes. 👎

I had a wheel (a cheaper Mad Katz one) that i got for about $70. couldn't use it man...i guess you need to have some way of securing them down to the table or something. I was like f:censored:k it man...i'd rather get my money back.
