How Do I Lower My Real Car

Does TEIN mean Bilstein?? Cuz Bilstein is very good.

How much do you wanna lower your car by? Because coilovers are much more expensive than lowering springs. And maybe they are not necessary in the usage you need. What size wheels do you have on what car? Are the roads bumpy around where you live? Alot of potholes? Are the sidewalks high when getting out of your driveway, or anywhere else? (Look at the picture in my avatar, thats me getting out of the driveway but the sidewalk is high and if I move straight back I will scrape the front end on the sidewalk.)

No, TIEN is TIEN. They make average run of the mill suspension stuff.

H&R and HKS are pretty good. I have a set of HKS coilovers on my IS300. Adjustable ride height. I'm very pleased with them. Stiffer ride but not uncomfortable. The cars handeling abilitys are so amazing now. The adjustable ride height is a bonus for me because I can lower the car in the summer time and then for the winter I can raise the car up so that I'm not plowing the roads.

Coilovers are by far the best way to go, but the most expensive also. $1,000+

Now, you can go for the less expensive shock and spring set. You can usually find a set somewhere that will fit your car. They usually drop the car anywhere from .5 inches to 2.0 inches. Usually the lowering spring and shock are matched to eachother so that the ride is still comfortable. Usually around the $400+ range.

Or you could go the total ghetto way and cut your springs. Be ready for one bumpy ride though. $0.00

First things first, what kind of car do you have.

DON'T cut your springs, it'll look & drive like crap. Your suspension is what moves your car into corners, you don't want to take chances with that. If you can't install it yourself, pay a few bucks more and have it professionally installed.

Why would you want to lower your car? Or are you trying to look cool even though the car will drive worse and you can damage the bottom more over bumps?

Lowering a car doesn't always equal to crappy riding. Nor will you bottom out everywhere either, if you do it properly. A 1.5" lowering will not affect ride quality that much, and it'll make your car lower, not to mention handle better, if you auto-X your car on weekends, like a lot of people do. Anything over that, and you'll be on the bumpstops looking stupid, and decrease your suspension's performance.

Most people like to lower their cars to make it look better, and handle better. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want my Trans Am looking like a rally car with a huge gap over the tires.

Hey PR or Josh, can either of you explain to me what upper pillow ball mounts are and do. Plain english would be super. 👍 thanks.

And Ryan, when I got my coilovers it lowerd my car about 1.5 inches. Got rid of that ugly gap in the wheel wells and a positive increase in handling abilities. My car doesn't scrape things everywhere I drive, I am more careful of it now, but I have had no incidents. When done right, it's certainly a benefit.

They give better responsiveness and feedback than normal rubber ones, i guess. I never understood what they did either, but i know TEIN has them for a lot of cars, and that they're not cheap...

Thanks PR!

Out of all the coilovers that I looked at for my car, HKS was the only company to offer upper pillow ball mounts at no added charge. All the other companies TIEN especially, were charging a lot extra for them.

Why yes, yes I do feel special.

They connect the strut/shock assembly to the body of the car. I'm assuming the HKS' are made out of aluminum/steel. Unlike stock plastic/rubber one's these won't flex at all, or get distorted, while driving your IS really hard. It's a good suspension thingamajiggerbobber for better traction , steering, and stuff like that. Yeah.

We'll why don't we find out.

What did you use to lower your T&A?

I think the Mazda 6 would look splendid with a bit of lowering. Agreed?

Eibach Sportlines.👍 I wanted their drag-launch kit, but I don't need it that bad. Actually, I don't need it at all.

Yup, Eibach's the shiznit. Got a set of Sportlines with Koni shocks on the CRX, and it handles like a dream, even with boost. For springs, i'm pretty confident no one comes close to Eibach in quality and performance.

Agreed.

Thread hijacking starting... now

Are you finished with the CRX yet? What's the current hp, and what's your hp goals with it? I think I remember reading something about 320! Not sure if that was current, or what, though.

Still the same it was, nothing has changed since then. 320 @ the wheels, which should be good for 12.00 flat, judging by the other cars i've seen with that much power. I'm at 12.60, but i did do only one full pass. Now that i've got a helmet, a good clutch and a good set of axles, i'm only waiting for weather to be kind so i can see what's up with that thing.

It's its last chance. If it breaks, it's gone. For good. I've wasted enough money in that thing!

:banghead: ok guys all of these were sorta helpfull but i guess i didnt ask the right question i have a 1995 mazda protege 4 cylinder 1.5 liter
and i want to know what the best coilovers or lowering springs are oh and thinks for the tips and also cuting your springs is the dumbest thing i have ever heard that **** never works lol

What's it out of!? No Mazda in the US had a 1.5L...going back to the early '80s with the GLC which is much less power. Do yourself a favor and get a 1.8L V6 from a MX-3 GS. It goes right in with 132hp. Same chassis and everything.

Isn't it usually - hell, always - the other way around?

No.

The JGTC Supra's use a 3SGTE instead of the 2JZ-GTE.

Or something.

no not when you have a lot of other **** packed in there like cold air intake, turbo, new 4 to 1 manifold and a racing transmision

You have all of that in your car and yet you don't know how to lower it? :odd:
