How do round 5-6 times and rankings translate?

I didn't play much for round 1&2, slightly more for 3&4, and have been really working on 5&6. My times are very good as compared to how I did in GTA2011. My confidence is quite high, should I not be so confident? I believe that I can make the top 32 US.

My concerns:
  1. Short time trials (less can go wrong). It takes a lot longer to put together an excellent complete lap.
  2. Good drivers not trying at this point

I'd be interested to hear everyone's thoughts.

My specific questions are: Are the leaderboards soft right now? If I can do top 100 on 6-1 to 6-5, should I be able to duplicate that on 8-5?

The leaderboards are soft for sure. There are tons of super fast drivers out there just counting down until 8-5. Put it this way, you ain't seen nothing yet.

Gold and go home, there is no reason for more until 8-5.

I managed to fall in love with a girl between last year's GT Academy and this one. I have not played much at all. I am learning and improving, so I'll keep practicing after getting gold. I do realize that I am probably delusional to believe i have a chance against some of the aliens out there.

I'm doing them once, sometimes twice to get the gold, then that's it. When 8-5 gets here I will be at it 4 hours every weeknight. I'm sure there are many good players doing the same thing.

I've been putting a fair amount of time in as I really haven't played a whole lot of GT5 since the first GT Academy when the game launched.

Needing the time to get used to it, and some of the challenges are helping me pick up the feeling of the game.
