Ok, Im new to the racing wheel seen, I have a CSR wheel with CSR Elite pedals. Im starting to get the hang of switching from a controler to a wheel. Now Im wanting to venture out to MAYBE using one of the shifters that came with the wheel. I've been racing with a manual transmission since launch and have realy been liking the paddle shifters on the wheel but I want to get my clutch involved.

Does the sequential shifter use the clutch?? If it is just a push pull motion I realy dont see the fun in that.

Also what advantages is there using a clutch other than the realizm??

Thanx all

Manual w/ H and clutch. The advantages of using clutch are that if you can shift quick enough, you can shift faster than the car can without using clutch.

I have yet to use my sequential shifter. When I use the clutch and shifter, I feel like I have more control over the car and what it is doing, transmission wise. I encourage you to use both the clutch and H shifter, if not for speed but for a more authentic experience. Of course this is just my opinion. The best thing to do is do what feels comfortable and right.

Definitely, definitely a noticeable speed boost - as has been mentioned, using the clutch enables you to shift faster than the plain Manual option. The best way to notice it is in Rivals against a ghost who's running the clutch - no matter if you shift right at the optimal time with each gear, the ghost will pull away from you.

With a wheel, I'd definitely say to learn to use it, as it helps with realism (at least, on cars so equipped in real life :P ) - I'm stuck on a controller, so I tend to avoid using the clutch in faster cars, or on difficult tracks, just because it doesn't feel natural with the input choice I'm stuck with. Drag racing basically requires it, though (ironically).

Funny you mentioned drag racing..Im trying to beat a drag time....and was wanting to use the clutch. Ill give the H-shifter a shot tomorroo on some slower cars and see how I like it. But you dont use the clutch with the sequential shifter?????

H and clutch when I use my CSR, and then the paddle shifters if there is A LOT of shifting to be done or the car never came with a manual. You know to be more authentic.:)

So once I switch over to a clutch, will I still have to use flywheel/transmision tweeks to get shifts quicker or is that mainly for automatic tranny's??

I think....yeah, I mean the flywheel helps the engine rev quicker and the clutch improvements still do help.

I use the manual w/ clutch on all cars with 5/6 speed, which is normally all I drive.
I do however wish they had a semi-manual sequential gearbox option in the game, like some race cars where you only need the clutch from a stand still, and downshifts, but not for upshifting. I believe these type of transmissions are on ALMS GT cars but don't quote me on that.

But maybe its just me that wants that:nervous:

I've normally used automatic, but I've been trying to acquaint myself with the manual the past few weeks. But on a controller, the clutch feels completely unnatural, so I just leave it out.

When I use my wheel, I use Manual/W clutch (Flappy pedals and the B button)

When I use my controller, I use Manual /W clutch, LB and RB for up/down, B as a clutch

I'm sure most of you know, but If you're using a controller and you find the clutch awkward, try mapping it to the 'A' button with the gears on 'X' and 'B'.

You'll now be shifting with one thumb and'll wonder how you ever managed without it :)

Using a controller, and while I'm using manual 24/7, 100% of the time, I'll use the clutch if I'm comfortable enough with both the track and car.

Otherwise, just "plain" manual with auto clutch.

For those of you using a controler....About 2 months ago I bought a Call Of Duty Controler by MadCatz (wired). On the bottom side of the controler where you fingers normal lie are two buttons. I configured it to use these for upshift/downshift....very easy and natural.
