Because dragging isn't an official event, there is no accurate way to measure how fast you are. Sometimes I make adjustments to my tune that I swear slowed me down not 2 months ago and I end up going faster. I tried using a stopwatch to measure my launches but that wasn't accurate enough. I thought I heard somewhere you can use ghost replays but whenever I stop on the track, my lap becomes invalid and not recorded. This really frustrates me and I want to know if anyone found a way to tune WITHOUT OTHER PLAYERS. I am probably the only tuner who hasn't ever been on a team or takes part of tunes from people but is still competitive.

Ok this is how its done... go to practice mode on indy road with your car.
1) Start the event,
2) drive to the start/finish line (bricks) and remember where you stop at!!! very important
3) drive from the bricks to the end of the pits which is near a 1/4 mile
4) when done with the 1/4 mile, make an extremely slow time around the track (if you make a faster tune, you will have to beat the lap time to save the ghost replay)
5) save your ghost replay
6) load your ghost replay
7) delete your tune
8) delete your save data
9) start all over again

yes, the bricks in the track...

I am not aware of any "Bricks" on the track. Also, you cannot come to a complete stop without invalidating your lap??

look, you just have to do it ok. The bricks are at the start finish line IN THE TRACK.

And no, AFTER you cross the start line, you will be invalidated not BEFORE. Just dont crash or cut track.

EDIT: You don't trust me or something? damn

No just that I've been at Indy so long and I don't remember any "bricks". That picture is news to me. I can't get on PS3 now because sister won't give up TV but will try it as soon as she gets off.

No need to get personal

I know you previously mentioned you don’t like the offline clock/pause at shadow method, but I found it much more consistent than using a stopwatch because of the visual reference. As long as you launch with discipline exactly at the clock change (identical point each time) it’s quite accurate. It takes a good few runs to get comfortable, but it’s all down to getting a launch point you’re happy with and replicating it.

Grab a car, set it to auto (for testing purposes) and give it a try. Once you’re happy with the launch point do 5 runs and see if it’s accurate :)

By the way… I’m amazed at how fast you are without a timing method or team pace makers :D

I use practice mode, set car to auto when I am tweaking the suspension, and usually focus on trap speed and the length of the rubber from the launch, other times focusing on elapsed time but its difficult to distinguish between improvements in 60 foot time, trap speed, or elapsed time. I like the idea of using the ghost car, I will try that out.

Might be possible to use indy oval instead for ghost car.

All I can say is, WOW. This is actually an accurate and legit way to tune. Any minute adjustment you make will be obvious. I already got my Le Mans up to 159mph and ACR pulls like a veyron. Also with this system, you can race different cars in your garage. THANKS!!

But why would you delete your tune after you do a run?

that part was a joke.. lol

its a great system, thanks for sharing it. I have a ghost replay saved with my fastest car (LM Quattro) and I use it to tune other cars. I can make a nice tune in about 5 minutes or less with this system if I use a basic suspension template from related cars.

i found out that the briks to the end of the pits is longer than a 1/4 mile... supposidly from the end of the paint on the back straight to the far shadow is closer to a 1/4... or so im told.

Well I don't really care if it is 1/4 or not. I'm just happy to be able to accurately measure my launch :D

Is in the same thing for tunnel drag?

Actually if you put your map on scale 1 you will notice that there are 2 blank spots on the track after the bricks, if you take your car based on the pointer on the map and start two car lengths from the last blank spot untill the end of the pit is exactly 1/4 of a mile. I know it sounds complicated but its actually easy once u get use to it. Ill try to take a pic later.

Of course it's the same for testing launch.

But try it on SSR7 instead of Indy. Go on the track, press start, map: car fixed, scale 1. Now you should see the start/finish line. There are 2 big black lines, place your car on top of the first black line (map). It's long enough to test gear 1-5.

OP must not be a racing fan, Indy is well known for the bricks at the start finish line. Hence Nascar's Brickyard 400, and the Indy 500 (as well as the nascar event) ends with the driver kissing the bricks.

I gotta say tuning using this method is great. I also like how you can use ghost replay saves to race cars in your garage against themselves. I use the G meter bar at the bottom and try to line that up with the white start/finish line rather than the bricks.

Dragging at Indy? Yes, I do it a LOT. Circuit race at Indy? Once...

I like to go to bumper cam and line up on the white line, more accurate.

since i'm an offline tuner here's my trick.... have 2 of the same cars ex. GTR & GTR, slap the same tunes on both then tweak one then go to offline split screen, use a rubber band on your 2nd controller, hold the e brake line up the other car and then you always have an even launch. now keep tuning until you can beat that old tune by a car or 2 ;)

So how do you tune for manual??? Just wondering
