How does SHE drive?!

I've started taking my cars into practice mode and runing 3-4 consecutive laps to see how they really perform and feel.

This is what I'm finding:

Important Note: I got this from another GT Planet member and will definitely give him credit if I can find the thread again:

Started setting the ABS to 0 and brake balance to 2/1, was VERY impressed with the results and now it's on every car.

High Speed Ring

This track is mostly about high speed with a few smooth turns and one slow speed S. Here you can open it up full throttle and get a great indication of max speed and stability. Also how she handles breaking from high speed.

Xanavi Nismo GT-R BEST LAP 1:04.851
xanavinismogtr.jpg

Compared to other cars in it's class:

Acceleration: Average. She is not lightening off the start but will get up in speed fairly quickly.

Stability at High Speed: Rock solid. She can handle bumps from other cars and maintain her line almost like a tank.

Cornering: Incredibly stable and very smooth.

Braking Very stable when she brakes. A bump while breaking won't send her into a spin.

Overall on the H-Ring: Beautiful handling car with some good top-end speed. I'd call this car a cruiser. Once you're going it'll sail perfectly like cutting through calm seas.

Point System 1 (low) 10 (High)
8 - because of average acceleration.

Lamborghini Murcielago LP 600 BEST LAP 1:07.084
lamborghinimurilp600.jpg

Saw this car in this color during the Lamborghini Seasonal. Wish I hadn't bought it.

Acceleration: Average. Surprised there wasn't a more powerful "liftoff"

Stability at High Speed: She rides like a big boat. You turn the wheel a little and you get tire squeal. You turn the wheel a lot and you fear tip-over.

Cornering: You have to take it very slow through the corner. She will definitely over steer. Seems like a problem with suspension. You turn the wheels but the body wants to keep going in the original direction.

Braking Not bad stability while breaking. Just don't make the mistake of breaking while turning the wheel or you may spin.

Overall on the H-Ring: Totally shocked she wasn't better since the Gallardo very, very good at Toscana, and this is supposed to be an upgrade. Not a car I want to drive at all other than to see how pretty she looks in the sun!

Grade (1-10)
5 -reminds me of that song "Don't rock the Boat Baby!"

Jaguar XJ13 Race Car BEST LAP 1:03.339

jaguarxj13racecar.jpg

Acceleration: Outstanding: One of the fastest getting going, but you have to ease in the throttle. Too much too soon and she'll spin.

Stability at High Speed: The XJ13 feels very responsive to steering input. She won't withstand any abuse, if she's bumped she may not hold the line. You have to love her gently. No radical movements.

Cornering: Everything with her is gentle. You have to turn her gently into the corner. She won't over or under steer. Ease her into the turn. If you force it she'll follow and go too far. It's concentration each lap to turn her the right way.

Braking Again, gentle. Don't think she'll go from 180mph to zero in an instant.

Overall on the H-Ring: She's a flyer! She'll rocket around the track. Just be easy with her, throttle, breaking and steering.

Grade (1-10)
9 - as long as you treat her like a lady she'll beat the competition!

Audi R8 LMS Race Car Best Lap 1:03.510

Saw this only once in the 4hr Nurburgring race (ran a few laps at that track several times trying to find the right car for the race). It was red with black tires and I thought it looked very sharp! I won it in the color pictured and though man, don't want to ruin that. So the next one will be red with black tires.

Acceleration: Average, or deceptive. I ran it against the XJ13 Ghost and it lagged way behind, but caught up before exiting the tunnel. I'm guessing it's in the first few gears where she lags. Will not win any drag races.

Stability at High Speed: Very good stability. She feels a little heavy, but should hold the line even if bumped pretty good. There is a very slight tendency to "boat" like the Murcielago, very slight.

Cornering: Smooth in the corners, with a good turning radius. You won't have to slow much to get through the corner. She can handle somewhat aggressive turns of the wheel, just don't oversteer or she may spin.

Braking Gotta be gentle with the breaks. Just a light tap, tap. Don't lean on them or you'll be looking at the course from the rear.

Overall on the H-Ring: It's not bad. Deceptive really. She presents as one of the fat girls but she actually drives somewhat athletically. You'll have to stay on her to make her perform. If she falls behind I don't think she's got it to catch up. Especially against a car that's got quick acceleration. Caught up to the XJ13 Ghost, but with it's quick acceleration it still won.

Point System 1 (low) 10 (High)
7 - She's no slouch but she'll huff and puff to keep up with the big boys like the one to follow.

Nissan Fairlady Z Concept LM Race Car Best Lap 101:801

The seconds may seem close 1:03 to 1:01 but if you see where the ghost car is 2 seconds is a big distance at these speeds.

I've seen the Fairlady a lot in Extreme level races (Dream Car, Like the Wind). Never thought much of her as she was always trailing the pack. Yet, the lady can compete even with the likes of the Ford GT LM Test!

Acceleration: Excellent! She doesn't play games, she gets right on task.

Stability at High Speed: Not quite as good as the Xanavi GT-R but very close! She won't shy away from a heated battle; if you have to bump and grind she's right there!

Cornering: Very stable. The only down side, which is probably why she's always in the rear is the turning radius. It's wide. So she has to slow slower than her competition to make the turns.

Braking Excellent here too. You can hit 'em hard and she won't faulter.

Overall on the H-Ring: If we could just do something with that turning radius she'd be a beast to contend with. You can win with her at a track like La Sarthe (subtle turns). Tracks with a lot of wide angle turns is not the place for her.

Point System 1 (low) 10 (High)
8 - Get rid of the wide radius and she's easily a ten!

I'm happy to see more and more people turn abs off. With it you can just slam on the brakes whenever the mood takes you but without abs (aswell as in real life) even braking takes skill.

Can't do ABS 0 on the X1. She's too fast takes WAYYYYYYYYYYY tooooo long to break. Tried it on Monza and the X1 was almost useless. Because of the breaking distance in the rain as soon as she got going had to put on the breaks for the next turn.

Nice thread, I like this!

One question, other than the ABS and brake balance changes, are there any other changes to settings or tuning?

Keep it up, I like it!

Great reviews! Hope you continue to update and add more to this thread.

Thanks! Plan to!

Nope. Everything else is stock. All aids off. No Line, No TCS, No Force Recovery. I do use racing Soft tires though.

I had tried it originally with my balance set anywhere from 5/5 to 8/8. Stopping was like metal on metal with those settings. Fortunately I heard about the 2/1 setting and man what a difference! It's even better than any ABS!

I don't use ABS myself but you guys do know unless the car is old most pro's do use ABS while Drifting. Its not a sign of being weak drifting or anything like that. It's really just a preference thing.

In real life the LP640 has abs. It's stupid to turn it off on cars that have it in real life. It wasn't designed that way.

If you were lucky enough to own a Lamborghini in real life and you wanted to tune it, you wouldn't upgrade the car by taking the abs out of the car.

I like the idea of the thread! I might post some results when I have more time. Polyphony Digital has done a great job giving each car a unique feel and I have found myself buying lots of ordinary cars from used car lot to find out how they handle. It is also interesting to read about differences in suspension and drivetrain designs and see if you can spot the charasteristics.

I'm not sure who originally suggested using 2/1 brake balance without abs but I have also found it really enjoyable. It gives the car a whole different feel during braking since it is less stable. I don't think the abs in gt5 should be compared to abs in real life. In gt5 the abs controls every wheel independently so precisely that it eliminates any unstability. In real life the abs would just release any locked tyre and result in jaggy braking.
