How Exactly Does The DR System Work?

I have been told that it goes up based on positions improved for the most part... but can you get to DR - S - if you just don’t qualify, start in last, and just move up like 5-6 positions every race? Would that be a better method than say starting in 1st-4th and finishing around the same.

My observations about the DR rating system (besides using the ELO basics)

Here are the things that will affect your rating positively:
- your starting position
- how clean you race
- how many people you overtake (so if you start 10th but finished 5th - this is a great progress)

Of course the ELO part comes when you combine all of the above factors with the skill of your opponents meaning if you race against people near your skill cap - you will get your DR increased more, but if, let's say, you race against people a lot slower than you then you will not get that much pointsl.

Hope that helps.

I had two back to back races in which I didn’t qualify and I started next to last. The first race I was 16th and finished in 3rd place with just 1 very minor negative SR tick. I saved the replay on that one. The second race I started in 17th and finished 2nd place!!! Completely forgot to save the replay and was pretty bummed after I realized it... Both races I saw huge gains to DR but I was wondering, if your DR is an A and you’re starting in the back in a lobby with mostly C’s and D’s would moving up like 5 spots and finishing in like 12th actually drop your DR? Or do you think you would still slightly increase your rating?

Well, for starters I think that this is a bit rare occasion - you being A and starting with C's and D's, this can probably happen really early in the morning when the load of the servers is significantly low, so I guess the game matchmaking algorithm would initially try to match you with opponents near your DR, and eventually after some time, in case it is no able to find any, will just put you in a lobby with whoever is available. Now let's assume this would happen and you move up like 5 spots - I don't think that this will decrease your rating for sure but I don't think that it would either increase it - my assumption would be that it will be the same due to the skill gap between you and the other players. (depending on their skill you might even gain a bit of an incrase but it would be a pixel or so on your screen bar :) ). Anyways, I highly doubt that moving up a few positions, no matter of the rank of your opponents would negatively affect your DR even if you start 20th and finish 18th.
