How far can I get without buying a car

I decided to start a new game and see how far I could get without buying a car. I just started so I'm only at about 6%. The Acura DN-X '02 is probably my favorite car I have so far, from silvers on the A licence. I'm pretty sure there is no way to win a truck so I don't think I will be able to finish the beginner events, thus eliminating the pro and extreme events too. There is still alot I can do though. Has anyone else ever tried this?

yeah im sure the truck is something you'll have to buy.. the noly events that'll win you a truck is the truck event itself i think, haha.

How about you try spending until you can't buy ANYTHING, even Oil changes, THEN what? i might try that some time

But off topic: Cool  i dug the DN-X too when i drove it, hardly anyone else seemed to agree with me, though.

i have gotten about 70% done wthout buying the truck.

you can still do pro hall except the last event (gt world championship)

all driving missions - all spec conditions and all enduro's (after 25%)

all other make specific events except the 31 you need to buy for.

not that easy, especially all missions and all spec cond's but i did do it. it wasn't for max points and unlike scrooge i did upgrades where i needed.

I know this is an old thread, but it's the newest one I could find with making a new one. I have just started this as a side challenge to my usual A-Spec points hunt, has been good fun up until I read this thread and the problem of not being able to win a sports truck god damnit. I am at about 14% completed so far, got all gold on the license tests and did all the driving missions before starting properly as the more cars the better (I sold the R89C I won from the missions as I wanted the money to buy upgrades for my cars if needed, but not being able to do that 1 race will knock a very big chunk of the percentage as you obviously can't do the extreme hall or even all the professional hall.

If it comes down to it, I will buy a sports truck, race it on N1 tires, 200 ballast using 1 hand while looking at the wall as punishment for having to buy a car. :(

I know 100% is not possible, but I think i'll push on regardless. It is a fun challenge I think, a welcome break from winning a race buy .2 of a second anyway.

@ Open Addict, I know it's been a while but can you remember how far you got?

nemesis01, I can't remember the exact % but it was just short or just over the 70% Mark.

* All Driving Missions.
* All Special Conditions.
* All One Makes and Country Specific halls that you can use prize car for.
* All but truck race in Beginner.
* All but The GT world Champioship in Pro Hall.
* All but Roadster 4hr in enduro hall.

I was not going for A-spec points though, so some of the races were a quite easy even without upgrading the car.

It was quite an enjoyable way of doing it, because I would do races in cars I may not have really chosen.

If you start the game without buying any cars in the game, I think you can't participate in almost all races, the only type of race you can enter without buying a car is mission races, which require license to try. So you can give them a try if you have any class(grade) of license as I wrote about what the races were in the previous sentence, if I remember correctly and it's actually true. 👍

Well, lucky for me I got all gold's in all license's, and did all the driving missions before I started so have a good advantage with choice of cars. I went for all gold's as you get more cars, it's easy to get all gold's and it just looks better, did the driving missions as you also get some good (valuable) cars such as the R89C and the Toyota 7, both of which I have sold. I plan on doing all the spec con races bar 1 in the RSC Rally Raid Car to further improve my final %.

Yeah, we can obtain cars when we attained all gold trophies in each license class, and also we can get some rare cars such as the R89C as you said, after completing certain driving missions that have prize cars for beating them.

Good luck with this Nemesis01

Its definitely an interesting way to play the game!

In a similar fashion, I have a game going where I plan to use the fewest possible cars. I am currently 26% complete, and have only used 19 cars. So the plan of course is to use each car in as many races as possible before buying a new car. My guess would be about 50 cars due to the numerous One-Makes that Open Addict mentions.

So far, the car with the most mileage is my Minolta Toyota 88CV with 353 miles. The car with the fewest miles in my Autobianchi A112 Abarth with 11.5 miles.

I am also tracking points per car, and the leader so far is my Honda NSX-R Concept '01 with 1,071 A-spec points!

Happy racing,

I am tracking which car's I have used for a particular event, and how many points I am getting but am not tracking upgrades I have made to the car. So far it has been no more than a bottle of NOS anyway. Although I am only about 20-ish % into my quest, my leading points scorer is the mighty Honda S500 who scored max @ the Sunday Cup and nearly max in the Japanese Compact Cup for 1970 A-Spec points in total.

Oh, that's also a great way to play the game! It would be nice to enter the races with as few cars as possible :D

See the link in my signature for a thread discussing:

- 100% in minimum days (requires buying 32 cars)
- 100% driving the fewest cars (licenses and missions excluded -- requires 47 cars, discussed on last page)

Thanks for the link jbrennen!

I'm just following the footsteps laid out by yourself, Famine and RoadHazzard!

I started my game with the idea of using only cars won (via race wins or license wins or Mission percent completion). Since I quickly saw that this is impossible (Sport Truck, grrr), my game morphed into using only cars won and then buying the few odd cars that are necessary since there are various One-Makes that require cars that cannot be won. So I wasn't after using the fewest cars, just buying the fewest cars, so your list (and Famine's) will be of great help!

Eventually, I hope to have a list like the one you posted on August 9, 2008 (post # 82 from the other thread). It will look somewhat different, but should be similar.

Thanks as always for your helpful information!

Strangely enough I'm also working on a run for Famine's 1st of June society thread. 👍
I'm, however, planning on joining jbrennen in the 835 day perfect game scenario, and am currently 312 days in, with all the cars necessary to be bought except 4 accounted for, all golds, all missions (OLR standard clean too! :embarrassed:) and I've gotten most of the Special Conditions hall (easy & normal) out of the way so far :yuck:, worst things first, so I can enjoy the racing later on! I'm a little way past 25% so far, and have already almost doubled jbrennen's A-spec total though!!!

Catch you over there GTsail290!

Sadly, I have been a victim of my own stupidity. Just deleted the save I was working on, was planning on copying to another card but was not really paying attention to what I was doing and it's gone. Over 30% done too, very annoying. :(

OUCH! Bummer!

After this ^^^^, I hesitate to post my minor irratation:

I'm working my way thru the One-Makes alphabetically, and I get to the Daihatsu Midget race. So I go to the Daihatsu dealer to buy a Midget (I've always relished having such a high-powered truck!).

And what do I find?

The Daihatsu dealer has none available!!!

What's the story? Have they all sold out?

Are they on everyone's must have list? Am I too late?

I madly race to the local used car lot and snap up a used one from 1998! They let me have it for only 30% over the sticker price. The used car salesman said it was the last one on the entire East Coast, so price negotiation is ill-advised, so I just got out my checkbook.

This has put a crimp in my game's secondary goal of only having my own driving mileage on any car in my garage.:(

The Daihatsu Midget II D-Type is the 1st car in my garage that has been driven by someone other than myself (especially, no B-spec Bob, keeping a certain Moderator in mind). I had not done any research on this, but I had hoped to buy every car new, or get prize cars with no mileage. I now have a car with 28,000 miles.:grumpy:

I'm going to have to look at Famine's and jbrenner's lists to see how many other used cars are required. Rats!

Progress update:
Percentage complete: 38.2%
Cars driven: 32
A-spec points: 15654
Car with most miles: Minolta Toyota 88CV: 390
Car with least miles: Daihatsu Copen Detachable Top: 8.5
Car with most points: Peugeot 206 RC: 1205
Car with least points: Cadillac CIEN: 10

I just love your story telling. Unfortunately not all cars required for 100% can be won or purchased new. I can't remember exactly which one's and how many that you HAVE to get second hand.

If you transfer/trade from another save, does it keep the milage it has on it or will it drop it off?

I now have had to purchase a second used car with non-GTsail miles on the odometer.

For the Isuzu Sports Classic One-Make Race, I had to pick up an Isuzu Piazza XE '81 from the used car lot. After careful research, I was able to pick up a PIAZZA with only 6.2 miles on the odometer!

I had thought that I might need to purchase a used Nissan Silvia for the Silvia Sisters Race, however, using a tip from jbrennen, I was able to use the NISMO 270R. Yeah!

Progress update:
Percent complete: 50.2%
I am now the proud owner of a Jaguar XJ-R9 Race Car!
Car with most miles: Minolta Toyota 88CV: 390 miles
Car with least miles: Daihatsu Midget II D-Type: 3.5 miles
Car with most points: Peugeot 206 RC '03: 1205
Car with least points: Cadillac CIEN '02: 10

Here's my report too...

Progress update:
Percent complete: 28.5%
Car with most miles: Lotus Elise '00: 171.6 miles
Car with least miles: Daihatsu Midget II D-type '98: 3.7 miles
Car with most points: Lotus Elise '00: 4495
Car with least points: Subaru 360 '58: 83
A-spec points: 23950
Cars driven: 16
Days elapsed: 343
Cars Owned: 99 (Prizecars: 69)
80 Gold Licences & 34 missions (+prizecar deliveries) completed in first 134 days.

I've only got the Saleen S7 '02 & a used Isuzu Bellett 1600 GT-R '69 (which becomes available to buy on day 358) left to buy. Then it's purely racing and getting Prizecars until day 835! :mischievous:

Looking good Smallhorses!

Your Lotus Elise has a lot of miles and points. Have you been using it for the Special Condition races?

Sadly, I have only driven my Lotus Elise 82.6 miles, and a measly 99 points. Its such a great car, so I should probably find some other races for it!

Right now I'm trying to find a car for the Japanese Hall - '80's Festival Race. I don't have many cars to choose from since it needs a production car from the '80's.

Good luck,
GTsail

Yeah, the Lotus Elise '00 has done virtually all of the dirt & ice races in Easy & Normal Special Conditions hall. Unmodified except for Dirt or Snow tyres for the Easy races, and generally between 87 - 168 points per race, and with either no modifications except for Dirt or Snow tyres, Stage 1 or Stage 2 Turbo fitted for the Normal races for between 102 - 200 points per race.
It's also done British Lightweight for 104 points per race with 50kg ballast, and Elise Trophy for 65 - 143 points per race (2 races without mods for 143, 3 races with Stage 1 turbo for 65.)
I didn't do the Tarmac rally stages with it, as I had already done them in other cars that I'd been driving at the time.

I've been trying to get the Special Conditions Hall out of the way as soon as possible as it's my least favourite thing in GT4. Now with the Lancia Delta HF Integrale Rally Car '92 & Mitsubishi CZ-3 Tarmac Rally Car '03 I've finished off the Normal level and all the Dirt & Snow races in Hard too. I've generally been aiming to average around 100 points per race, but I did get fed up with Chamonix Reverse (Normal) and won it for only 6 points! :guilty:

I have plans for the Hard level Tarmac races, but I need to win the prizecar to do those with yet.

As far as Japanese '80s, I've used Famine's list in the 1st June Society thread (where we should probably move this discussion to, as we're now beyond the point where we need to buy cars!) and I note he, like you also bought the Isuzu Piazza '81, which is the only Japanese '80s car on his list, so he must've used that.
Myself, I've aimed to buy the Isuzu Bellett 1600 GT-R '69 for more A-spec potential, so I can't use the Piazza, but I did (in preparation for another high A-spec run at Roadster 4hr Endurance) buy a well used Mazda Miata '89 instead of the 1.8RS that Famine used, so I've got that to go at. I do know that you can acquire a Mazda Miata '89 as a 6.2mile special too, but I'd have to look up what day it's available on for you if you need it. The only other option I've got is the Nissan Be-1 '87 which I bought for A-spec potential for the March Brothers races under Nissan, but it'd require some pretty heavy modifications to be competitive!

Here's what can be done without buying a car. You can go do the licenses. I don't care if you try to get all golds on them or not. Just pass 'em all. A few of even just the all-bronze-on-a-license cars are useful. You can use the Sunfire you get from A license to do the Sunday Cup and FF Challenge. If you have skill, the VW Lupo you get for passing B License can be used to win the World Compact. You can use the Nismo 270R to do the Clubman Cup the FR Challenge, Silvia Sisters and if you have any skill, the Japan Championship. It should work well in the Easy Capri Rally if you`re looking for instant cash. The Honda S800 Race Car won from the World Compact can be used to do the Lightweight K Cup. The prize car won from the Kei car race can be used in the British Lightweight Series. The prize car from that race can be used in Lotus Classics. That's all I can think of for now.

Thanks iluvgt4 for getting this thread back on track!

As pointed out by Smallhorses, I had inadvertantly dragged this thread somewhat off topic.

So my future game updates will be posted elsewhere. Hopefully in Famine's "1st of June Society" thread if he does not mind my less than "pure" game.
