How Flat Can You Make A Track?

I have recreated my home town track that was rebuilt in the mid 1960's from the one my Grandfather helped build in 1960. Portland International Raceway in Portland, Oregon USA. The track is very flat and smooth to drive on. I've even inline skated on it a couple laps ;)

I used Eifel Flat to start with and centered my track map in the middle of the Eifel Flat terrain. Driving on the track I find it to be very bumpy. I even get airborne coming out of 8 into 9 and need to lift to prevent ending up into the barrier.

That track is very close to original, although I need to scale it up slightly. My scale ended up .22 miles shorter than original. And turn 1 is not as tight as the original track.

Are there any flatter areas of Eifel Flat or is it all random and I am not going to find a truely flat surface anywhere?

Is there a way of flattening a surface in track editor?

Does using an anchor allow a tighter turning radius?

Have you tried adjusting your "Bank Angle" trying a lower setting?

So far I have spent little time developing the track. I did not change any bank angles. I was surprised at how rough the drive around the track is. I was hoping for a perfectly flat track. Since it's not, I was thinking there might be a location on the grid that is flatter than other areas. It would be nice to see a relief of the Eifel Flat :)

I wonder if the game by default does have a slight bank angle in turns. Maybe the bumps I feel are the ones where I have connected two sections of track together that don't match. Maybe it's the seems that I am feeling.

It may be dependent, just like GTPorsche said above, on how many anchor points you've put down onto the track. The more anchor points and the closer you place them next to one another, the bumpier it'll become, to a point on some tracks where you'll create huge jumps. It may well be the area you placed the track in might have some minimal effect on the smoothness ( or not ) of the track, but in my own experience and all the info from other board members, it's most likely to do with too many anchor points or they are too close together.

This kind of thing should give you a relatively smooth drive:

This kind of thing will usually make things pretty bumpy:

On Eifel ( not flat ) and Death Valley, this kind of thing should create jumps ( dependent on where abouts the anchor points lay on the area, sometimes ). Zoom in as far as the app will allow and place the anchor points as close together as you can. I think, the closer they are, the steeper the jump, though i might be wrong. So you can make some nice easy hills, rather than jumps if you prefer:

Hope this helps you with smoothing out your track !
