How Good Is The DFP.. Really?

I once had a G25 set up with a kinda bad makeshift stand my bro and I made way back in the day. It worked well enough and let me enjoy GT4 way more intimately than with the DS2(GT4 had to have been designed with the intent of Wheel etc usage rather than controllers.) Then my Steering wheel broke while moving ugh. About a couple years ago I went the cheaper route and bought a DFP and played GT3 with it for a bit.. but I broke that one on purpose because I was frustrated from golding license being the perfectionist I am. I kept having issues with golding the mid to last R license tests after getting golds on all other licenses. Thus goodbye DFP. I never got to play GT4 with the cheaper DFP wheel(I only used G25 with that particular game) so my question is.. is the DFP decent enough for GT4? Should I really trust going the cheaper route?

I'm sure I'll have less perfectionist tendencies with GT3 licenses these days now that I realize the cars you win from the license tests can be won elsewhere. So this time when I play it with the wheel I'll be just doing it to purely enjoy myself.

Thanks in advance for any help.

From what I remember it was a great wheel for the time. Could be nostalgia though!

So it should give me good enough response, feedback and overall feel I take it. I'll trust ya.. it was good for GT3 I'm sure it's good with GT4.. not as good as the G25-G29 or other high priced ones but good enough to get the job done eh.

Thanks a lot.

The DFP came out with GT logo branding for GT4 Prologue, & I picked one up then. It was the official wheel for GT4 so I guess it's still good.

👍

Awesome thanks you both.. I feel better about my purchase now. If only I had a good authentic stand instead of that makeshift one ah well at least it gets the job done. Anyone here really good a carpentry or wood working in general that have made your own awesome cockpits from scratch wood? That would be cool to see...

Thanks, that looks decent enough and was cheap. I wonder if something like that is stronger than the $99 dollar sim stand you can find on ebay?

Speaking of homemade cockpits.. I seen some really nice ones back then now that I think about. Some of the cockpits for sim racing I've seen looked so nice they made me envious.. they must have costed a lot of money and time to make though.

It was a good wheel for its time and I used mine from 2003/4 up until last year when I finally replaced it with a T300. It was still working perfectly when I finally got round to selling it for about 50 quid on ebay. I'm sure it will provide years of service for its new owner. I doubt my T300 will last as long!

So yes it was a good wheel for its time and very well built. The downsides are that it is small, the paddles are buttons rather than paddles, and it is as slow as a 15yr old asthmatic dog with arthritis in both hips.

I have a Playseat Evolution in black vinyl, & it is pretty good. Bought it with some money I won on a tickbox survey, so I was very lucky indeed! Not competent enough to build my own, although I have lots of respect for the people who do.

No offense, but I highly doubt that you can't. Plans are all over this site and the internet. The designs are the hard part. the rest is measure, cut, drill, bolt. easy peasy. Dont let some of the other rigs out there intimidate you. This

from this post is very easy to make and should cost about $60 to make. maybe 80 or so if you need tools. add some traction feet to the bottom rails and you're good to go.
