How is it that you can pass far faster AI cars on the straights

This has me baffled programing the AI to drive in a straight line must be the easiest part of the AI routine & yet this happens all the time.

Even allowing for getting the power on earlier it still seems unbelievable that you can pass cars that accelerate far faster than your own even if not using the slipstream while supposedly racing.
Its not an issue that they have reached their top speed either just the fact the AI does not seem to be able to use full throttle in many cases.

I'd put it down to rubber banding. In GT6, the cars typically pull away on the straight, to give the illusion of one-lap pace on their part. However, they slow down to let you past when you get near them. It's rubber banding mixed with just slow AI (who try to hide it).

At the OP you have obviously never had a semi believable race in GT6 yet, I just had one of my best races on GT6 literally 5 minutes ago, A very modified Skyline R32 vs GT3 spec cars and a Mclaren F1gtr safe to say I could not get away when I eventually did get to the front, So pretty sure he was giving it the beans he was banging on my back door for the last 4 laps.

Also I couldn't pass any of them on the straights. 650pp limit I had 638 so hardly a deficit and am by no means a slow driver.

This is a question & answer thread for Kaz but to find out how realistic that was take the McLaren F1GTR for a spin & see how the lap times compare to your R32.
I know tuned skylines are quick a guy who lives about 30km from me has 3 including the only Mines Skyline I have come across in real life. Keeping up with the McLaren would still be difficult in my view.
