Fairly new to this online thing, LOVE racing Shift online, in fact, I don't even LIKE the offline game any more!

So... What's the likeliest amount of time EA will continue to dedicate servers to the game? How long, in the past have they kept legacy servers going when a newer game exists?

The answer to this might have a LOT to do with whether I get Shift2 when it comes out.:scared:

EA have been known to kill off old game's servers when the sequel comes out. I think it depends more how popular Shift remains after the sequel comes out (again, madden = almost noone playing the old versions a year later). If they pull the plug you know their percentage of total players on the EA server farm must have been pretty terrible. On the PC they also have the problem that the pirate version is like 10-15x more popular online than the official one so almost all games take place over vlans, which are ridiculously faster/better for most people, rather than the official server.

They should NEVER disable a server, unless they specifically say they are going to do so on the packaging of the box. (and give the date).

They have to give 30 days notice on EA.com before the server is shut down. However they still have the Skate server running after all this time so I doubt Shift will get taken down anytime soon.

So, best case scenario is that Shift2 sucks, nobody buys it, and EA keeps the Shift1 servers running longer?:sly:

The thing with Madden is, everyone wants to play with the latest team. GT racing, OTOH, because we don't get team specific cars and drivers, it isn't quite so time critical. I can only hope that EA will keep the server up. What's the uptime on older NFS games... what's the LONGEST they have kept a NFS server up and running?

And what's the oldest NFS game that the server is STILL running..?

Agreed. We don't pay for their games to have them disable half the reason to play it. I don't think they should even shut them down after PS4 comes out. Not everybody gets new systems right away or @ all so I don't see what right they have to take away the only reason we keep playing it. We don't pay $60 a game for them to cut in half for them to save trouble
