So... a little back story to this rant:

I love endurance racing. In particular, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In my opinion, it is the most exciting race event ever created. I do like watching LMPs race, but I like the GT cars more. I am disappointed that in the recent 24 Hours of Le Mans, the GT class barely got any coverage except when pitting or they spun out/crashed. What disappoints me even more is the fact that when I wanted to do the 24 Hours of Le Mans in GT5, there was no multi-class racing. Now, I don't like driving LMPs because I don't like the way they handle/drive overall. So, for my 24 Hours of Le Mans, I decided to represent the GT class by winning with a fully tuned, 882 horsepower (Remember this) McLaren F1 '94 (the street version, not the race car).

I started the race in 100% rain because I knew I would be able to hold off the LMPs for the duration of the race. I quickly gained a good lead that kept building by a few seconds each lap. It wasn't terribly difficult despite driving on Racing Intermediate tires. I had zero assists on except for ABS which was set to 1 (because I am not a masochist.).

Anyway, back to the race. I made it to lap 15 after driving for one hour. I had a gap of just over two minutes ahead of the 2nd car. I chose to suspend the race because I was tired. Today, I started the race again and I was confused when I saw I had a 57 second lead after leaving the pits. I knew I took a lot of time by fully refilling from half a tank of gas. But an entire minute had gone away when I went onto the Mulsanne Straight? That sounded a little fishy. Later in the lap after watching the lead counter a few times, I realized it was going down!

Going down?! How could this be happening?! I had such a good lead! My car was running just fine yesterday! I nervously watched the lead counter going down by eight seconds per lap. The Audi R8 was getting closer and closer. I knew that this wasn't going to turn out well for me.

Eventually I got passed several more laps later. I tried to stay on its tail, but there was no hope.

I quit the race out of frustration and checked my setup. I looked at how much horsepower my car had.

Eight hundred, forty-one. You can't be serious. 841 HP? I know I changed my oil before the race started. I know my car had 882 HP before clicked start. This is all because of a stupid glitch by PD. When I hit the "Suspend Race" option, I thought the game would have saved the race and the oil change I did before the race started. Guess not, huh? Absolutely ridiculous.

I really wanted to make a fun post in the GT5 Race Report thread, but if this glitch is persistent, that post will never come. If PD has more bugs like this in GT6, I will definitely not buy it.

The most ironic part of the whole race, I lost on lap 24. [/rant]

Bad luck.
You'll have to change your Signature.

Still remember the enjoyable first hour.

Two things.

1. PD DID save your oil change. Cars lose more power in the rain I've found, though I could be wrong. But it's always seemed like the case with me. When I did the race in a 908, I quit early the first time after an hour in the rain and discovered my car had lost tons of power like yours.

2. It wasnt the power loss that lost you the race. It was another glitch.

Occasionally when you suspend a wet race, when you load it back up the AI cars are put on "sport super soft" tires. These tires give them extreme speed in the rain.

Sorry about your race as well.

I finished all my endurance races before PD patched in the suspend-race feature.

After all of the glitches and problems I've seen in the past year about it, I strongly recommend you not use it.

Don't be afraid to put your PS3 on pause for 8-10-12 hours at a time. It can handle it. When I did the first 24 hour race, my PS3 was on for 4 days straight.

Well that's just weird.

I really don't want to leave my PS3 running that long.

Now I doubt I will ever do this race again if I can't pause it without leaving my PS3 on.

My first 2 ps3's were 80g fatties and I babied them; and the lasers died on both of them within 2 years.

PS3 slim now, I leave it on all night, constantly, breaking in cars and things. Did both 24h races with it no issues. If your ps3 is going to die prematurely, it will do so anyway. But we are talking about a very small percentage of units. Even though I suffered 2 failed ps3's, I'd go so far as to say that not wanting to leave it on for hours/days at a time is irrational. I don't want to force you to do anything. Your ps3 will be perfectly fine.

Technically speaking, the temperature shifts between boot up / shut down are worse on the components than sustained operating temperature.. just sayin.

Just to reiterate what Sean said: I left my PS3 on last time I went to a different state for some technical training. It was on 6 days/5 nights then I got home and picked up the control and responded to the approx. 100 messages I had received wondering why I was ignoring everyone and whether I was dead or not, then played games for about 6 hours before tuning it off.. So yeah you should have nothing to worry about 👍

The PS3 is made to be running, and be used. So even if you play 14 hours a day it should not break. All components have enough runhours to last for a couple of years.

Same goes for PC's to go offtoppic a bit. My gaming rigs run under load for 5-14 hours daily and they last and last (knock on wood).

Super sport soft glitch,it goes away when they next pit, back to normal tyres,I suspend just before the closest a.i pit,so they gain very little time.

Callmedan: Your scenario is definately annoying although your 24hr isnt "ruined". If that happened after 23hr of racing then I believe it would be ruined (and my GT5 disc would be in multiple pieces)

Im on my Third Laser :grumpy: on my Fatty

I left my Fatty on for 25Hours Straight for B-Spec. 24 Hour :3. no issues at all. It seems the newer games breaks my laser *BF3*

I didnt want to leave my PS3 on either. I did it a long time before suspend was available. Did it in 24 hrs straight. A friend and I. We did 6 hour shifts. During that six hours, one would race, with some food and drinks, the other would order pizza, use the washroom, and sleep. Started at 5:35am saturday, finished 5:41am sunday. We were so proud having not paused once. We would always switch in the pit too. I used a G27 and an alcantara racing seat, so the 6hrs went by relatively fast. I think on my second stint, about 4 hours in i really had to pee, and i had to hold it for two whole hours! Killed me hahahah! Was super fun tho! Great gaming weekend! LOL!

Sounds fun, but I can't do that due to me not having friends. :P

Same here, except it was in the 20th hour, me and my friend were annoyed. Had to race harder in the wet to keep up, then it dried and they pitted. Managed to overtake after an hour. It just takes time, Dan :)

Are you sure your car lost power due to a glitch? Because judging from my break-in days, your power starts to drop after around 150-160 miles or 275 km. So if you did 24 laps on a track that is 12 km (?) long, that is when your power should start to go down. Have you considered that?

I am not 100% sure about this, just trying to provide a possible logical explenation.

I am aware that your car does lose HP over time, but this is fixed through oil changes and engine repair. But I was not aware there was such a dramatic drop in that short amount of time.

If this is the case, then I am definitely not doing the race again.

According to the research I did after my 2nd failure (and refusing to pay sony $150 to fix it) the Fatty PS3's had an all-in-one type laser, opposed to the Slim's 2 or 3 separate ones it uses for bluray/dvd/cdrom ect. Cannot remember the specifics but the all-in-one is prone to failure, and you can buy a replacement for around 60 dollars and put it in yourself. Videos are all over youtube.

I just haven't gotten around to doing it yet.

The dual laser assembly for my 80gig fatty is $40. I got the ps3 open right now.(had to figure out which laser to get)
Note to people that have a ps3 that runs on the hot side, it runs cooler open.

I had feeling at when you hit rev limiter often power starts to drop faster, on rain skidding a lot against rev limiter..

Well, in the rain, I almost never went lower than second gear to minimize wheelspin. The only time I would go to first gear is when I screwed up big time with my braking zones on the straight away. Even then, I immediately jumped back up to second before accelerating.

And for anyone probably going to say something nasty about staying in second, in slow turns, I was at half throttle.

I never found the point in the 24 hour events anyway, I only did the Indy 500 and Nurburgring 4hr just for the prize cars.

Doesn't seem much of a problem to me, you should of just kept on going as when they pit they would be back to normal and you could catch up.

Well I didn't know everything would be fixed when they pit again. Also, losing 40 horsepower is quite a significant drop.

Currently watching (coaching) Bob(s) in their version of this race. Just noticed on the pit stop service, the pit guy with the gas can can't find the fill hole! The car is the Nissan R92CP Race car '92. The gas is mysteriously going in through a fill tube not dissimilar from Harry Potter's train station platform. Don't know if this is old news but I thought the glitch-check guys would like to know!

Yeah, this happens to every car. Sometimes they find the correct position, but when the car goes down on the invisible jacks, the guy with the fuel can is holding it a couple inches above the hole.
