Watching one of those police chase programs this morning hearing the quote 'some drivers still think there is a different between safe speeding and dangerous speeding' I wondered how GTPers see their local speed limits. If you ask me that quote explains itself, there is a difference, one is safe and I can safely say I rarely exceed the speed limit excessively if there is any possible danger from traffic to the road itself. That said I do confess to regularly going ~10mph over most journeys infact so long as there's plenty of space to do so, I have also been well over the limit and pulled over for it but due to the conditions (clear roads completely dead of traffic bar the sneaky copper) he completely let me off and this kind of treatment from the police is great that they recognised that though I was speeding it was quite safe to do so. The roads I travel on are rarely busy enough where you will be endangering anyone with speed alone and it's other offences such as tailgating and poor overtaking which are a much bigger problem, which is why I'll never speed in a large amount as though speed may not be the cause it will increase the risk of serious injury (more to myself as a biker).
In my personal opinion an ideal world would set speed limits based upon ability but that is of course near impossible, there are some people which are simply terrible drivers for various reasons and it's those who need to be kept in line. I feel myself and many others are clearly very capable drivers and use their discretion appropriately, choosing to speed when it is indeed safe to do so and in some cases speed can even save you (particularly on a motorbike) using acceleration to avoid for example idiots pulling onto roundabouts when you're already there. I care about driving and I don't have any attractions, I don't even like having a radio on when in the car as a passenger as I feel it is just one more distraction though I do understand why people who don't enjoy driving itself will want it and I don't think it should be taken away.
Thoughts?
Poll to be added, answer on balance for your regular journeys 1 choice for frequency of speeding, 1 for estimates of how much by and obviously if you very rarely speed there is only a need to choose that option only. Also the poll is anonymous so vote honestly with no worry of being labelled as a hooligan or whatever.
