How should I balance front and rear suspension settings?

I'm mostly asking what the affect would be with stiffer suspension in the front than in the back and vice versa.
Any tips about the different affects of natural frequency compared to compression and rebound would also be helpful.

In general, stiffening an axle (higher nat freq) will give less grip on that end. But it can also give more instantaneous response.

So a stiffer front spring will nip onto the turn a little quicker, but then may understeer at the limit.

Real life road cars are set with a higher nat freq in the rear for ride comfort - this is not as much of a factor in race cars where performance is of primary importance.

Racing tyres and high aero cars will need higher nat freq than road cars on comfort tyres.

Dampers are very much a personal preference, and also very track dependent. Usually the compression is set to about 60-75% of the extension in real life. So in GT if your extension was 40%, your compression could be 0.75*40%=30%.

Don't be afraid to adjust by feel, as ultimately you as the driver have to be comfortable with the car.
 
Remember that the Natural Frequency has an effect on tyre wear,the higher it is, the more tyre wear.I tend to have it as low as I can without having a detrimental effect,also reducing the damping on the front can eliminate snaking under hard braking at high speed. The handling can be improved a lot with good LSD settings as well.
