Hi all, I'm looking to get a domain for myself, I need to get a domain specific to Singapore ending with .sg, are there any reputable websites which I should head to?
Or is onlydomains.com good enough?

Also are there any particular things which I should look out for? Say after 2 years, the domain I registered for is not guaranteed to an extended lease or the domain is reserved as long as I continue to pay and extend it's lease. Thanks for your time!

I don't see .sg on godaddy, and that's where I get all my domain names.

Basically you'll "lease" the name whateverwebsite.sg for a number of years. When it expires you'll have a set amount of time to renew the lease, or you'll lose it.

That's just going from my experience with godaddy. Probably bought about 10 domains over the years for clients.

One thing to remember.

Let's say your website is called tucks.sg, and you end up with an email address Tuck@Tuck.sg. DO NOT USE THAT AS YOUR PRIMARY DOMAIN REGISTRATION EMAIL. Ie, when they send you a renewal notice, have it go someplace else. Yahoo, gmail, hotmail, whatever. An email address you won't lose access to.

It's hard to prove your the owner of a website when you can't access the email that it's registered to.

Hope that helps.

Thank you both for the very useful information, clarifies the situation I'm in now. So now knowing that as long as I renew the lease I can keep the domain, and through the companies listed from SGNIC I'll know that they're reliable.

One additional question, a domain called tucks.sg will be considered as a 2nd or 3rd level domain? As compared to tucks.com.sg.

"tucks.sg" would be a second-level domain, while "tucks.com.sg" would be a third-level domain. A second-level domain is registered directly under the TLD (in this case .sg). 👍

Thanks a lot Dean, it surely does help alot as a third-level domain would require us to register as a business! Thank you for your help again

Use namecheap, or rather, please don't bother with GoDaddy - they basically make the internet look bad.

Unless you are streaming one of their godaddy girl commercials :sly:
