Xbox??? Who is this Xbox??
I was just wondering if there is a trick to start off the line in GT4 that sort of "launches" you better than a regular launch? In other words is there any technique to start off the line?

There is, but it depends on the car and it's settings. Mess around with the RPM you launch at, and you'll find something good :)

SVX
What I do is rev.

I just floor it. Works all the time (usually).

Pfft ... hope you Kiwis are joking.

Your launch depends on power, torque, tyre choice, weight balance, LSD, TCS (if any), gear ratios, suspension and downforce (and others I can't think of right away). Probably most important is choice of car, cause they all have a different reaction to the above criteria.

The best way to find a good launch is to take your car to the Las Vegas strip and experiment with launching at different rpms. You don't even have to do the full 400m, it's an easy way to practice launching without wasting time in different windows.

SVX, you should use the analogue sticks bro, they're choice!

They let you moderate the throttle far more than buttons (although Mafiaboy disagrees and has proven to me IRL how easily - at least for him - it can be done with buttons).

I use the x button, but it takes some practice to get a feeling for it, so I would recommend, to use the analogue sticks.

As for the question...
I just floor it :D

I'm of the same opinion as mafs. It's much easier with the X-Button than with the analog sticks, in my opinion.

All it takes is practice PF, you know that, but you are as good with the sticks as I am with the X button so in your case I wouldn't worry. 👍

For me it was a case of I race using the X button for accelerator, so why not test and tune with the X button aswell? :) Thank god the DS2 was pressure sensitive (unlike the DS1) so once I got the feel of it, it became second nature to roll the thumb on or off the X button rather than mash it.

Not to mention it makes for more excitement in 2 player mode from a standing start where your mate just mashes the button and fries the tyres while you're off 300m in the distance because you learnt throttle control.

yeah, it's all to do with throttle control. if your with the formula GT, just mash the throttle, with the Cebera speed 12, put hardly any throttle on, or you're screwed!

I'm not used to the ''X'' button... What I do before launching my car off is I just use the analogue stick. Since my M5 has got 10k RPM, I just rev it up to 6k and then when the car is off, I just release the gas as soon as possible and floor it. It worked for me.

I agree with PF. You should try driving the car before the race and trying to start it from a standstill. If you get wheelspin, don't floor it. Try moderating starts and start in mid-range RPM values, e.g. 4-6,000 RPM.

Gearing, gearing, gearing, AWD, tires.

:P

Honestly with most cars that don't get wheelspin, you're best off holding RPM at torque peak until juuust before it says start, at which point you nail the throttle and it'll go like a bat out of hell vs just bouncing the limiter.

1/4 mile is a great place to learn to control a car's torgue, power and wheelspin.
a.k.a. Launch.

I've allways used X button for acceleration and suqare for braking.
In every GT I own.. (GT,GT2,GT3,GT Concept2002Tokyo Geneva , GT4 and GT5P)

I used Auto transmission until I started to do drag racing in GT4 and discovered Manual transmissions benefits.

I normally just hold the revs at 4,000-5,000 rpm. Of course, the ideal rpm for each car is different, but 4,000-5,000 works alright for me. -kevin
