How to tune a C4 Corvette

During last years, playing every chapter of the Gt series, I always tried to tune up the cars I bought, sometime being necessary others just a sort of exercise to see if I could make the car go faster.
The main problem is that my ability doing so seems to be somehow directly proportional to the game's age. In Gt2 I'm quite good at it, in Gt3 a little less, in Gt4 mediocre, in Gt5, well, totally confused.
After messing around with a '98 Esprit GT I reversed suspension settings 5 or 6 times in, I decided to learn once for all and got an old Corvette ZR1 (c4) in the used lot, changed oil, bought professional suspensions (LSD will come later, much later) and ran some tests at Tsukuba. I kept track of each change I made to the car, and I actually felt like it was improving, but, after a while, I went back to the original setup which, far from being the understeer monster I remembered from the first laps, I found quite similar to my modified car.
One made 1'07.1xx with sport-hard tyres, other 1'06.467. Now I would ask, is there somebody who has already tuned this car and may correct my tune up and/or give me some advice on how to do it?

The settings I had applied to the car are:
Height: -10/+5
Springs: 6.0/10.0
Dampers 4/8 - 3/6
Rollbars: 3/6
Camber: 0.0/2.0
Toe: 0.0/+0.2 (left as stock)

Brake CPU: 7/5

Thanks to everyone
