how to tune

hi i'm Random Shmo 99 and this is my first thead!!! i happen to noteis that no body tunes the same way as me. basicly all i do is make some money (<-- the guide for that is coming soon) and then give it a absolutely massive engin, take it for a test drive then make some more money and then give it a big turbo charger and supercharger. ive done this to a TVR cerbra speed 12 and it has 1028bhp, ive also done it with a mazda mx-5, a nissan skyline gtr, toyota hsc ralley raid and maney other cars.

i hope you enjoyed it!!!

Well, to be honest your way isn't so much tuning as it's bolting on parts for straight line speed. Huge power levels don't do much good if the car still handles like stock which in many cases equals like crap. A well tuned 500 bhp car will totally murder that Speed 12 with no difficulties on any technical track.

You'd get raped by either of the 2 guys above me in a race in that car. I bet you I could DRIFT a miata round GVS faster than you could run that TVR through it.

Tuning? That's overpowering an engine, not tuning!

Don't bother with your money guide either. It's been done to death before:

$$/minute of racing

This is the comprehensive, nay, definitive guide to the top 80 most lucrative events in GT4 for making easy money.

:D

Well... I'll admit that I got beaten by a TVR Speed 12... Once. And that was because I refused to use spray on the road courses and because I suck at driving.

I was in a Jag XJ220.

But against one on S3s (stock for it), full power, and stock suspension? Like I said, I could keep up in a FWD that's slightly heavier and has a quarter the power.

Well, the Cerbera Speed 12 was an abandoned experimental supercar, anyway. So, it's no surprise that it wouldn't have much of a chance against more modest road cars... But the Speed 12 (as it is) is a fast and a pretty-looking car; like a very rounded stretch saloon from the '50s.

Didn't the Cerbera Speed 12 snap a dyometer while testing its power? That much power, RWD and so light and so big still- can't expect much.

I wasn't meaning to be mean  The Speed 12 is almost a lost cause with the power it already has, sorry but that's the truth.

I'd kick all your asses in a burnout comp. 1200bhp Minolta, N1 tyres, bring it! ;)

I used to tune like this when I didnt have funds in GT4. Although I only went as far as exhausts, engine tunes or a stage 1 turbo. Nitrous usually won me some races too.

But then I matured, started tuning properly, and now I'm not a bad tuner. Although I dont think I got anything worthy to my name apart from a couple of NSX-R's... ohwell :D

Moral of the story: Give the guy some time to mature, realise his tuning methods are... questionable... then start tuning properly 👍

I think most of us started out in that fashion - whichever iteration of GT we started on. With ASM and particularly TCS involved in the equation, a 1000hp+ supercar, while not EASY to drive, can be driven fast, without a lot of careful attention to the suspension, diff, or gearing.

But then we realize that driving aids are not only unrealistic on most supercars, thus defeating the purpose of a sim-esque game, but that they're also not much fun, AND that they slow you down in the end.

So Random Shimo 99, if you're still following this, apart from all the bluster and posturing above (which I'm also guilty of), essentially the point is this: your tuning method is common among beginners, but not really all that great once you're at the level where you're driving without aids. The driving aids don't just slow you down, they keep you from developing an understanding of what each setting does and how it relates to all the other settings and tuning parts. Try turning off all the ASM and TCS on that Speed 12 and see how it does.

I'll admit to being a bolt-on man before coming here.

i actually started without aids...but with stock cars...bolting on till the car was right...then i found that suspension culd be tned and click car worked together and won races

LOL

yet another newcomer scared away by our tried and true tuning masters

wow..,

Sometimes we are. ;)

And he hasn't been scared away... He's pushing this idea.

double LOL

I'll admit to being a bolt-on man before coming here.

i am one too.., before i joined GTP, i only cared about Stage 4 Turbo's..,

not to hurt your feelings, Random shmo, but we are like you before, so having that kind of idea on tuning is normal, you know like getting max hp on your car.., maybe you should go visit some threads around here, so that you could really have an idea on what tuning is all about.., i recommend you visit the 3 major tuner garages here, especially MFT (MadFinnTuners Co.)..,

IMO tuning is all about drivability (is that right??), how the car carries itself with all that much power in the engine..,

and also, please use proper English, spelling and grammar come with that..,

Especially Aussie Tuners :sly: Couldn't help myself. I was once a bolt-on man too, then I visited MFT one day (before I was an Aussie Tuner) and seen the light. Then as I started to learn tuning techniques I found Aussie Tuners. One thing lead to another and now I can competitively tune with the best.

yeah, i did mention the 3 major tuner garages here ( MFT , Aussie Tuners , RCV Motor Works) .., wish i could create my own garage :sly: haha

when i first visited MFT, i checked the # of threads posted, "wow, this thread is a hit..," then i visited it, i was also enlightened by the two Finns.., Random shmo, i suggest you do the same.., :D 👍

Any of the 3 crews (MFT, AT, RCV) can help you if they don't stop whinging at eachother trying to prove who is fastest!!

(their efforts are pointless, they're all slower than me anyway. :P)

Mafs!!

Is that a challenge :sly: We help each other out more than we are at each other's throats as is evidenced by me doing reviews of 2 cars from RCV and 2 cars from MFT today. That's 4 reviews. Oh wait I forgot, when you say you are quicker you mean down the 1/4 mile don't you Mr Torreto? We go quicker around the curvy things some know as corners

All in good fun- nothing personal mafs. I'm sure you can tune fine.

Doesn't matter if it's an inch or a mile, I'm faster.

Others might go quicker but you don't that's for sure!! :P

I can tune your mama to be a pro-street **** slurping machine, for me and the boys. ;) *sorry, been watching old episodes of Yo Mama....haven't got it out of my head yet*. :D

Mafs!!

*added bit* Isn't alcohol a magical mistress. :P 1/2 dozen schooners and you see GT4 in a different light....the light of a drink driver. :D

Don't worry, I'm annoying fellow Aussies on another site with all my gibberish, you're just copping the spillover Holdenboy. :P

*added bit* I wonder if I should give my results for Tuner Cup now.....drunk people are more truthful.
