How will the actual release date be announced?

Okay, i find this pretty interesting, the way how PD/Yamauchi announced GT:Mobile just now on E3.
Did i miss something? Was there any build up to this announcement? Any hype? Or did PD just go up on the E3 stage, and said "look, GT:Mobile for the PSP Go, all finished and ready to launch the 1st of october"?

Most people thought it would never come since it's announcement in 2004, and if it would come, waaay after the release of GT5.. some even talked about a 2011 release date for the mobile version of GT, and boom.. here it is all of the sudden.

So now i wonder how they will announce GT5.

I remember reading numerous interviews with Yamauchi where he states that the release of the game would be a suprise..
Now looking into those words after seeing this GT:Mobile announcement sort of makes me wonder what they have in mind for GT5, when they are going to announce it and when it's going to be released then... ?

Announcing GT5 at TGS would be nice.. and that's in october as well, right after the GT:Mobile launch right? that would be a PERFECT moment to announce GT5's release date maybe 2-3 months after TGS... looking at a december/januari release date.

They will likely time for something important. God of War 3 is scheduled for March 2010 alongside the motion tech, so it may come around that time as PS3 marketing will increase too. Sony know this is their biggest game.

The christmas is already packed. Thats my bet. I certainly dont mind the wait as Kaz will make it as good as possible :)

well, GT PSP as KY stated was too bring people in to the world of GT. So im with you on the TGS announcement, was even MORE racers are brought in GT 5 will be an incredible marketing success. Seriously from a fiscal point of view...it would make sense

TGS = Announcement of a worldwide December release IMO.

Sony need GT5 and Uncharted 2 this Christmas, alongside a price cut. Forza 3 will drive even more 360 sale's to sim and console racer's if GT5 is not released this Q4.

GOW3 and the motion controller will maintain the PS3's momentum into 2010.

I've said December 2009 and to be honest, in my book it's locked down as that date....it just all makes sense.

If GT5 is as good as we (and Amar) believe, it makes no sense to have Kaz on stage announcing and showcasing it via translation at E3....especially for a Christmas release.

TGS is in September, so what a perfect opportunity for Kaz showcase GT5 - in his native language...literally weeks before the launch of Forza 3...what a way to take the gloss off it; and if the release date is only two months after, people are going to be so hyped.

Everything I've heard from Sony convinces me that GT5 is coming this year...the slim PS3 will be out by Christmas meaning Sony will start to make money on it rather than a loss, and I bet this ties in to what John Koller said at GDC where releasing GT5 is "when it makes the most sense"....it doesn't make any sense to release your biggest franchise when you're losing money on the console. Then you have Kaz saying they can release it now if they wanted...so for me, Xmas 2009 is an absolutely completely 100% watertight locked down sorted out release date.

Christmas probably is already packed...but GT5 is huge, and I wouldn't bet a few games moving if GT5 is indeed December 2009.

I don't think 2 months is enough time for them to get the marketing needed. They would at least need 3-4 to give it an appropriate marketing campaign. Also, December is Q3 for Japan.

An announcement at TGS for GT5 to be released the SAME DAY as Forza3 and beating the crap out of FM3 in sales would be a great day in the history of gaming.

and interms of marketing...i'm forseeing a Top Gear & Fifth Gear Gran Turismo 5 segment this coming season.

then again...i'm kind of an optimist when it comes to Sony and GT

Are there any big motorsport events or car events coming where PD will be at? that's a possibillity of a release date announcement as well, since as some have said.. TGS is a bit close to the holiday season and marketing would be a bit harder i can imagine.

No, wrong lol. TGS is at September 24th so the announcment would "kill" GT Mobile.
But honestly said, I can not think of another "announcment date" for GT5 either, it's so confusing! :dunce:

Well that would be interesting to see a head to head battle like that. It will never happen because you never release something the same day as your main competitor when both companies have a similar product. It would only hurt both sides. For instance say both games sell 1 million in the first week(I know neither will sell this much in a week but it's an example), if both were released on the same day chances are both titles would only sell 750,000 in the first week.

You got any idea about how big GT is? Million sales first week for GT5 would be a failure.

Sales aside I don't think announcing a release date for TGS would kill GT: portable sales much if at all. Both are on seperate platforms and the average joe whom does not visit gaming forums would have no idea about the release date. If anything we could very well see a release or at least a large amount of details about GT5 at the EU gaming event in August.

Well it was only hypothetical.

Also, the average joe may not be on video game forums, but he probably does go to gaming sites.

2,3 months ago they were searching for a brand manager in London for the gran turismo series.. and I Bet they're already figuring everything out for a while on that topic too.

i suppose it will be released this december at the very latest. You always have to keep in mind that Forza is a true competitor when it comes to system-sales and if people think GT5 will still take over a year to be finished, while Forza3 already is there it s not goint to end well. The majority wont be such a "hardcore-fan" to go the extra mile ;)

Sony just cant afford to release this title like half a year later, or maybe even longer

With six years of development GT5 will be content almost 1000 + cars counting that turn 10 have remodelled 400+ in 2 years, come on guys 6 year development is ridicolous!!!.

Agreed, Top Gear are huge fans of the gran Turismo series, and I wouln't be surprised if they made it a front page headline in their magazine when we get more details of it.

TGS is 1 week before gtpsp comes out... so if they announce gt5 then itll ruin everything for gtpsp, instead they will be putting more emphasis on gtpsp (expect another trailer for gt5 though).

TMS (tokyo motor show) is when i expect to hear the release date of GT5

GT Mobile is an irrelevance to most GT fans, Sony and PD need to worry more about Forza 3 driving 360 sales than GT5 taking away sales from GT Mobile.

@ Jaguar - Have you seen the poll in the GTM forum about who's going to buy it and who isn't?

Hardly irrelevant.

That's what PD does, years with nothing and then BAM!!!!! All the news in 1 huge event. They're the biggest surprisers in gaming history.

i doubt the average fan of the psp will be haunting the news for the tokyo game show. they are more interested in nicktoons. (mostly)

Frankly I agree with Jags. I don't see the release of GT5 and GT Mobile having much effect on each other, except for GT Mobile, to see how it links up with GT5. This would boost sales of both GT Mobile and the PSPs to an extent.

However, someone in SONY seems dead set on boosting the PSP Go as hard as they can. I can't believe that SONY doesn't understand that GT5 is the last game for which a large number of gamers are waiting to buy a PS3. In fact, it's just not rational, because with more than 50 million PSPs sold, the system which needs a boost more is the PS3. And as stated, SONY won't want to lose a single gamer to the greensyde this Christmas.

So like many posters here, I suspect that the TGS - or possibly the TMS - will be the time to announce both a PS3 price drop as well as GT5, and possibly an even cheaper PS3 Slim. GT Mobile will have been announced months earler at E3, people will be used to it, and be anxiously waiting for GT5 news.

Lots of preorder sites have release dates for GT5.

For examplr Play.com says 25/09/09 (fat chance!)

Are these dates based on anything official or are they just guesses to fill up the "release date:" row?

Basically sites have to set a release date to add a product to their site, often the dates they set are just a guess, these dates are just place-holders. They put the product up only to get people to pre-order, they have no idea, yet at least, when the game will actually arrive.
