So I had this happen to me about three or four times so far... Or at least three or four times that I noticed.

I was in first place on a race a couple of days ago in Monza, and had a 10s lead to the second place. I was lapping faster than him, and was opening about 1s per lap. Then...

All of a sudden in three turns the guy takes 4 seconds out of the difference. I didn't make any mistakes, slowed down or anything, as a matter of fact my lap time that lap was within .3 of my fastest lap (which was the fastest lap of the race).

After that, it wen't back to me being faster than him by about 1s/lap. I ended up winning by some 7s or so.

Did anyone notice something like that happen? Like I said, I've noticed a couple of times before, but it wasn't until this last race that I was able to actually confirm by comparing my own lap times and knowing for sure that I didn't mess up anything on my lap. What makes it completely weird to me is that if the 2nd place indeed took 4s out on that lap his lap would have to be the fastest lap on the race (not to mention that it would be faster than the top 10 by at least a couple of seconds).

Anyone?

Since it's Monza I'd say he cut the corners and it's as simple as that. You can even set a fastest lap that way if you want but you won't do it without getting a massive penalty.
^^ This

If you saved the replay you could check. But i'll put my money on this explenation.

Do you have a replay?

No, I did not save the replay, I never remember to do that... But I don't think it was corner cutting because he didn't have a red dot on his name after the race. And I'm not sure about the lag, because unless the lag was adding up throughout the race and got all compensated in three corners it still wouldn't make sense...

Anyways, if this ever happen again I'll try to remember to save the replay... :-)

Some people game the system. Can you cut the Monza chicanes and coast negating the penalty? I haven't tried it but that might be the case if he has no after race penalties.

Even if the guy serves the penalty, a red dot besides his total time in the race results would indicate the had a penalty in the first place. But he had none of that, which makes this case intriguing.

That said, I'll start watching this thread :)

Not timing related but I had a bit of a rub with a car yesterday in Yamagiwa Gr.3. Nothing aggressive, just the usual close racing going two wide through the chicane at the bottom of the dipper.

We were both S drivers so rubbing is forbidden apparently, my screen said he copped four seconds and I copped 1 sec penalty.

He never seemed to slow down at all to wipe it off (I did because 1 sec is easily removed) and caught back up to him quickly, finished within 2 seconds of him. Then at the finish screen his name had NO RED DOT????

I asked him how he got rid of the penalty and he said he didn't know but what the hell happened?
