Huge Problem rendering career unplayable

Hey guys, just recently, whenever i complete a race and get to the leaderboard, it fades as normal to the loading screen for the replay, but at the loading screen instead of getting the white icon i get the red ''crash'' loading icon. The screen jsut stays there until I turn off the PS2. This makes my career unplayable and it also means I can't take screenshots!

Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

The red icon indicates that the console is having trouble loading data from the disk due to scratches, dust on the lazer, etc. Knowing this, there's a number of things you can try:

  • Use a CD lens cleaner. Run one of those a few times to ensure that the lens is nice and clean. This should help the console to better read the disk.
  • I know some people have tried placing their console sideways such that the lazer chassis falls closer to the disk in an attempt to improve read performance.
  • Make sure you test out your copy of GT4 on a friends console (or their copy on your console), to rule out problems caused by scratches or a faulty disk.
  • In extreme cases, it's possible to open up the console and clean the lens directly (with compressed air or similar), though more often than not such action isn't needed (nor do I recommend it for those without experience).

Hopefully you'll get it sorted. 👍

which type of console? Original or SlimLine? Sitting it vertically is good for both console so the lens doesn't have to work so hard moving against gravity to read the disk, 2nd takes less space on the floor, or table or whatever you put your console on.

So you've solved your problem?

@MasterStorm, thanks for that mate, but a thought just came into my mind, couldit be perhaps because my PS2 is resting vertically?
It's possible.

I know there were rumours that early PS2's could develop read problems when kept in a vertical position, though I don't know if this was ever verified. Personally I keep my PS2 horizontal now, though at various times in the past I've had it at different angles to help certain games with their loading, including having to tilt the console from directly upright 45 degrees towards upside down!

It's easy enough to experiment and see if changing the consoles orientation helps, though in the long run, I'd still say that the lens cleaner will make the biggest impact. :)

I've found that the slimline tends to be significantly better at reading discs than the older PS2, and that makes me more inclined to think your disc is scratched. There are several buffing polishes that can be bought to eradicate scratches from optical discs, such as Crystal Disc Restorer (do they still make this?). Obviously, you'll want to make sure it really is scratched before spending money on a polish that might not be needed. :)

You'll be able to see if the disc is scratched.

I use T-Cut (a car paintwork polishing compound) to 'unscratch' my CDs, never tried it on a DVD though.

If you decide to try this, look up the method on the 'net (or ask directly here, someone will have done it successfully, I'm sure.)

it always heppen to me , and thanks God I didn't forget to made a cd back on my PC . (ISO or img). cause I know one day that original cd will be corrupt . so my suggest make a backup cd when you buy a new game:)

I've found that the slimline tends to be significantly better at reading discs than the older PS2,

Really? I swore someone told me that the slimline cannot perform as well as the older big box ones simply because the older model has a cooling fan and is spacious on the insdie for lots of cool air to run about so overheating is almsot impossible. When a system gots hotter in temp, their speed inprocessing just drops, lag and/or disc reading may have problems. That's why i asked which kind FlyingPan has.

If you got the older slimlines then your system can generate heat really quickly. But telling from the fact you said "just got a ps2", and you posting today.. it means you have either the newer slimline or the silver one. I know someone told me that te silver one can run for a longer time before actually overheating. If it isn't the overheating problem then you may just have a bad disc or something.

I've had the same problem with God of War... I played up to a certain level then the game loads because it loads the new areas you play. But it freezes at this one point on loading and never continues, i'ver tried it 3 times, same places, freezes all the time. If THIS is the cas, then it's probably the system itself, I have one of the early PS2 consoles and something is slacking.

The same thing happened to me a month ago. I have a newer slimline and I was getting the Red Circle O'Death after running one race. I went to EB and bought an unscratched disc for $15 and I haven't had a problem since.

Complete rubbish.

You ripped the image on your PC, right, that's the way of copying discs. The problem here is that you will need a chipped PS2 to run the newly burned disc as it's not the original but a pirate copy. I don't know if you're even violating the AUP here or not.

Another thing. It is not possible for a disc to become corrupted. Full stop. Tell me how you manage to corrupt something that has been pressed to shape. I guess you think it's possible to record on vinyl records too?

      .you make me laugh friend ,I don't know what did I say to you ,to make you answer like that ,why you are angry ,
I'm not sure what are you talking about ,but I actually downloaded the GT4 and burn it on DVD discs. I don't have the original GT4.
but if you want me buy original GT4 I will do it, just for you friend.

Given that:

you will need a chipped PS2 to run the newly burned disc as it's not the original but a pirate copy.

It's not really sage advice to tell someone to "backup" their disc on their PC.

friends, I'm so sorry to say that bad idea. So don't even think to make a backup CD it's useless .believe me I'm not kidding.

I wonder if all members use the original disk

Well it would be. A CD can hold 800Mb tops, and GT4 is nearly 7Gb.

I wonder if all members use the original disk.

Probably not. What's your point?

Because Greycap's was that without a chipped PS2 the member wouldn't be able to play a back-up copy of a GT4 game. So it's more sensible to concentrate on easier solutions to his problem than chipping his PSTwo. And in any case, that requires him to have a working copy of a GT4 game which, if his game disk is the problem, he doesn't have...

Is there any chance I will be banned.:indiff:

A CD is not a DVD. You said making a backup CD, not a backup DVD (or even a backup DVD9).

2 fast 2 furious, My friend, can you bother your self and PM our friend to know the true story, and why he answered like that .:)

I have no clue what you're talking about, nor what "2Fast 2Furious" has to do with anything.

Is there any chance I will be banned.:indiff:

For what would you be banned?

I am afraid you have totally lost me.

You didn't answered my question.(what heppen if he had multi-layer DVD?)

another question
Is that Undertaker picture? , I will be in a big trouble , if it's .:)

You didn't answered my question.(what heppen if he had multi-layer DVD?)

Then he still wouldn't be able to play it without a chipped PS2.

you are too fast and too furies

I am certainly not furious, and my girlfriend says I'm not too fast.

No, it's Bill Bailey.

Maybe if you search and ask you will get some answer

No, it's Bill Bailey.

Then thanks God I'm far from trouble

Most. Bizarre. Conversation. Ev4r.

I appreciate the efforts you're making with the English language, but you seem to not understand what I'm saying and I haven't got the first idea what you're trying to say. So I think this would be a good point to draw a line under this... err... "dialogue" and move on.

Suffice to say your solution will not help flyingpan's predicament.

sorry but you were to late .I already won

it was my opinion ,take it or leave it( it's your choice)
May you tell me what is the word (Ev4r) mean?

And I'm really sorry for my bad english

try gamedoctoring or disc dotoring the disc.
