Hyundai Ioniq 5N is Coming to Gran Turismo 7’s Next Update

The problem with an EV event is most of the EVs in the game are in completely unique performance tiers, and EVs seem to not have tuning options to compensate (like they do with, say, the GT-R events).

So you'd end up with a really weird event that had the Mission X, Ioniq, Afeela and i3 as opponents, none of which are competitive with each other.
Not even with weight reductions, power limiters, and ballast being options? I do sorta see what you mean, though. I don't think every EV would necessarily be eligible, just most of them. So I could see the latter three cars being competitive, especially with PP limits. I also don't know if I'd count the Mission X since it's a concept. But I suppose on the other hand, even if we include every EV that isn't a VGT - nor the Volkswagen ID.R - that's not exactly a terribly diverse field, as it'd only feature the AFEELA, the Taycan and Mission X, the Model S and 3, and the BMW i3. Adding the Ioniq 5 N, that's just seven cars.

Now that I think of this, I think it's far more likely that the Ioniq 5 N will be featured in the WTC 600, or maybe the Clubman Cup Plus.

I wonder if they were planning to do a live reveal of the Ioniq 5 N as the prize car during the Nations Cup final but now everything's ruined. :lol:

My guess is that it'll be featured in a one-make during Race 2 of the Nations Cup, which remains TBA on the website.

I actually don't mind this, especially since PD sounds like they're doing a lot more with the Ioniq than PG ever did in Horizon. :P Not allowing the simulated gearbox because Playground thought that would better convey that it was an EV was a fool's move and I'm glad to see it rectified in Gran Turismo.

Definitely the Clubman Plus races. Those are tough and fun.
 
We still want new cars. But EVs aren't cars, they are appliances. An electric Hyundai is about as exciting as getting a new fridge.
You're not excited when you go appliance shopping? :dopey: My firstborn gave our new washing machine a big hug when we bought that when he was 3. :sly: And my youngest called every Tesla he saw a race car last year. :lol:

EDIT: Heck, we all drove nothing but Hoovers in GT5 and 6, how bad can another one be?

If it means anything, there were only five EV road cars that I was especially interested in seeing in GT, alongside a Formula E racer. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N was indeed one of them, with the other four being the first-generation Tesla Roadster, the Ford Mustang Mach E, the Pininfarina Battista, and the Jaguar I-Pace. Especially since that last one is featured in a real-world one-make series. But beyond that quintet, every other car I'd like to see is either purely ICE-powered or a hybrid. And believe me, there are at least twenty times more vehicles of that variety that I'd love to see.

I mean seriously, I think one of my biggest personal disappointments with the VGT program was when the Jaguar VGT SV was revealed as a pure EV and not a hybrid, which means that unless Jaguar does announce a hybrid version, Jaguar is stuck with the XJR-9 for representation within Gr.1. Granted, the XJR-9 is an icon, but I would've really loved to see a more modern version of sorts, especially since I profoundly doubt Jaguar will ever enter LMDh/LMH. Meanwhile, it feels like more and more automakers are getting into prototype racing - or perhaps returning to it - and I'm all for it. I suppose I can take at least solace that, in the context of the most contemporary Gr.1 cars for each brand, Jaguar went out on a high note, whereas Nissan ended with an absolute flop.

PD are so weird. :lol:

One of the gifts is receiving the winning team’s car. We can pick one of the World Tour liveries cars in the Special Manufacturers Cup, but PD don’t make the liveries available in each respective Brand Central for those Gr.3 cars. Just weird, man.
