I am giving up trying to run a racing series

I don't know how many times I have tried to run a successful series and have failed because people just don't want to join a series hosted by someone who has never run a series before or has been unsuccessful. However this last series I made, an F1 series, has great potential and since I cannot stand it not taking off I will be handing it over to whoever wants it. Yes, I am giving it away to anyone who thinks it might work and to anyone who is known to have run a successful series in the past, so it could be restarted under new management. Here it is: PDl Formula One World Championship Take a look if you wish, restart and host it yourself if you like! I would really like to race with you!

An sucessfull championship needs good organization and a good presentation with a realiable host.

i know the feeling but don't forget not everyone has GTP quite a lot or nearly everyone i've raced with is just on GT6, open series entry lobbies up and people may be interested to join :)

I guess it's a world cup + holydays combo. Seems not a single new serie took off since months
^^ This is exactly what I was thinking. The attendance at many organised racing series has been down recently, possibly as a result to the World Cup, but also because people are very busy enjoying the weather and life.

To start an online racing series it does help if you're a popular person on GTP and a good racer too. To start a race series I think that it's important to take part in a couple of other popular race series for a period of time befor trying to branch out and start a new one. 👍

I'm also going out on a limb here and going to say that, I think GT5 was more popular, there has been an element of disappointment with GT6 and some seasoned veterans aren't playing GT6 anymore.....which is a shame really.

Yep, GT6 is getting better with each update. The v1.09 has upset the BTCC specs a bit, but the same thing was happening with GT5 updates. There are some features in GT6 that make running an online series much better than ever before. 👍 I guess that the most annoying issue remaining is the pit lane lag, that really needs solving as it's a pain sometimes.

Has anyone actually ran a popular Formula 1 racing series on GT5/6 before anyway? I haven't realy associated F1 to Gran Turismo before, not when there are dedicated F1 games available which are most likely better (for F1) and purchased by those that are interested in racing F1 cars.

IMMORTAL used to run some F1 on GT5, the [FGTA] have Mini Stiggy doing GP2 (expanding after a couple of seasons to include GP3 and F1).

As for giving up on series, my 1st attempt at a series saw 4 drivers on the grid, I kept it going and got to season 2, where I had an average of 6 on the grid, but I kept going, (now without a ps, so my work has been taken on by other [FGTA] personnel) but my most recent series now has over 30 drivers signed up and in the mean time, the [FGTA] was created and quickly become very popular :D

Moral of the story.... never give up and race every race even if you only have a few drivers (seems a "season 2" will be more popular than a "season 1").

Great tip, P1K3Y! 👍

Ryan: Keep trying and don't give up... If you see just 4 drivers, keep going!

Here's my advices:
1- Keep your championship simple. At least 6-10 cars. No more than 10 cars otherwise it will put people off. Before you open the thread, I recommend you testing the specs first and then choose the cars.

2- Have an functional PS3. Without that, it won't be possible. (Obviously)

3- Improve your internet connection: It's very important for people seeing each other, or else the race will be ruined!

Hope that it helps! 👍

I agree with Pikey Mikey and almost everything that's been said so far on this thread. My advice for Ryan and other novice hosts on how to launch a race series is:

Start with building a full friends list of clean racers - it used to be easiest to do this on GT5 by hosting clean shuffle races. On GT6 start as a host by doing garage (spec) races - run a meeting at the same time on the same days every week.

When you've got a big pool of friends add a race series. Find a niche which isn't well catered for on GTPlanet. Don't start with long races or the fastest cars - those appeal to expert racers and they will already be busy doing other race series. You need to attract the novice online racers - there are many people wanting to try it.

Long races are not suitable for beginners because they can't concentrate and race for long periods without making mistakes so keep the races short. The fastest cars are also not suitable for beginners so no F1 cars. Think about tuning and run some cars untuned because many people don't have tuning skills.

Keep it simple. Have good publicity and find a keen photographer.

As Pikey Mikey said it takes time and persistence. We only had 8 at last nights meeting - I would desperately like to have 12 regulars as I think that is a good number for racing. It is difficult to recruit new racers fast enough to replace those that leave and grow the series.

Finally my advice to Ryan would be stick at it, but not with an F1 series.

I guess I am a very lucky one. I have never run in a racing series other than my own. In my first series (and only) I created I was able to get 20 drivers which is a great number for any series. Now with S2 coming up in a bit more than a month we have over 30 drivers like at FGTA. Factors that makes a series popular are presentation, organization, cars you are running, and a good staff:D. But being patient is one of the most important things

:tup

good decision, i felt down too when the F3 serie didn't work out...

all people here on gtp claimed how great it was the ralt and then noone wished to race it :D
makes you wonder if people have actually any clue about what they want lol

Dont give up man keep trying mine series is small but im still positive and striving to make it work

Ryan, you got to be strong.... Keep trying! Next time that you do an championship, I recommend you get your championship under FGTA: It can turn great.

being under FGTA doesn't assure success, you have to guess what people wants to race and avoid being all of the same too... it's hard believe me lol.

I has 2 very successful gt300 seasons but i'm unsure of how season 3 will turn out. Just do this; keep doing your best and believe in your effort and ideas!
