I don't think PD knows what drifting is...

So the new seasonal event is up and its racing cars only, WOOHOOO!!! RX7 TC is my baby!!!

So I break out some mean drifts but get a crappy score each time, very upset... then I do a run where I literally have my nose up against the wall the entire first turn and hardly any angle in 5th gear and I rack up a 4K score on that first section... But when going sideways in 4th controlling the car sweetly I get a score of 2k... Seriously?

What is the trick to scoring on these events, cos it's clearly not drifting...

EDIT: Oh, and the seriously, a dirt track??? That's rally, not frikken drift... :(

Points drifting isn't realistic, but can still be challenging and fun.

If you want big points the main thing is finding the right line - and it might not always be the line you expact it should be!

After that, it's wheel speed not actual car speed that matters... which is why you see everyone using comfort softs on the rear. For points, you want the car to be travelling slowly, but the wheels to be spinning as quickly as possible.

And after that it's angle... not too much (!) not too little.

Quite... does feel a bit close minded in here.

Seems unless your tandeming in a specific (narrow) set of Japanese RWD cars, with a 900* wheel, using the clutch, with comfort hards and realistic settings you're going to get a hard time from some individuals.

In racing, there's equal tolerance for those who like to race and those who like to time trial, as well as acceptance of those who like to use driving aids.

If the communication in drifting lobbies is as rude/abrupt as it is on this forum (assuming you're not part of the accepted norm/group) then I'm surprised anyone bothers to enter. Talk about elitist.

It's only a game FFS, and although fun to play (however you play it), not exactly a realistic one at that.

How's the weather up there on your high horse? :sly:

Nobody here ever gives others a hard time for not using a wheel or JDM, but it's obvious that RWD is essential for drifting, and we only suggest to use CH since it's the universal tire used among 95% of the drift teams on GT5 and everybody associated with them.

(We don't strictly use them because it's the most realistic, in fact it's been proven CM are actually closest to a standard street tire, CH being equivelant to a worn street tire)

When everybody is on CH, it's a level playing field. What taints the drift community is those "drift or kick" sort of lobbies that allow any tires (usually on overused, easy tracks like tsukuba/trial mt./suzuka). It's that lack of rules that result in you being slammed off the track by some 10 year old in his Veyron on slicks... within 2 minutes of leaving the pits.

So that's why we seem so... uptight about it, but we're not as bad as you make out.

Weather here is cool, sunny with ocassional showers... and quite windy.

Of course you should already know that as your horse is clearly a lot higher than mine ;)

Edit read :)

I completely understand how you'd want to protect on-line lobbies and keep them a level playing field... it's exactly the same for on-line racing... you don't want people coming in with soft slicks when everyone else is running sports hards.

My comment was more aimed at the type of reaction people get when they come in here asking about points drifting or AWD drifting or drifting on something other than CH's.

OK, so none of them may conform to real life drifting, but people have to start somewhere, and as it's a game they've spent their money on, they are entitled to play it however they wish.

I don't normally post here, but I do look at the forum on occassion, and I see a lot of glib/flippant/sarcastic comments and attempted (but usually failed)clever put downs if anyone asks anything that doesn't fit in with a narrowly prescribed set of 'rules'... Politness doesn't cost anything.

It's a public forum and people are allowed to have an opinion that differs from the norm. If some people feel it's a stupid question, why even bother to reply... unless it's some sort of effort to appear superior?

Personally, I drift points quite a lot... there I've said it... and I feel better now ;)

I know it's not real drifting (but it's a game, and none of it is real anyway), but I do it for a few reasons...

1. My time on GT5 is limited by work and family stuff... it's much easier for me to pick up the pad and play for an odd 30 minutes here and there rather than dig the wheel out.

2. I really CBA'd to join lobbies and sit around whilst the lobby owner decides he want to kick the session off.

3. It gives me something to measure my development by... whether it's realistic or not, I have a target to aim for.

4. I enjoy it... it's fun

Live and let live.

I have no problem with the points you made besides this one, what do you mean by "decides to kick the session off"?

Once a lobby is open, it's open. There's nothing physically stopping you from going on track and getting loose :)

Lol, talking about going off topic!!! sheesh...

I don't really care about elitists much, never have... This forum was never like this back in GT4 days, was a really friendly and fun place where people answered others questions... And if the answer had already been made somewhere, then they would point said user to that thread...

Anyway, I guess i was just ranting about a subject that is new news to me, but hold news to all the super leet GT5 since release drifters out there... :P

Anyway, thanks to the one person who did give me an answer... ;)

EDIT: and to Stotty for stickin up for me... ;) your point about them feeling superior is probably the most accurate explanation for it... I generally just ignore those posters and wait for more constructive answers to come along... Bantering with idiots is a waste of time, although fun sometimes... ;)

Whoa bud, take it easy. No need for name calling. Calling someone an idiot for having an opinion (that you might construe as bashing) is not the way to to. Sure people here think they're macho and know it all but its not up to you to call them names. Basically what you did was try to "talk behind their back" like if they couldn't read what you wrote. I'm not one to call names (check my posts, they're all clean), but what would you call someone that comes into here asking for basic/general information that, I'm pretty sure has been covered over and over? How does it make you any better by contributing to bashing another member?

People need to calm down and stop picking on each other.

Back to topic, stay close to the kerbstones and keep your speed/angle up. Remember, there is such thing as too much angle might make you spin out causing you to lose points.

The best part of the SS7 drfit is the fact that some of the top ranked scores are in the Nissan mm-r cup car

Never called "someone" and idiot, I was calling a group of people who behave a certain way idiots... ;) I never called anyone an idiot...

Cool, I'll try this, although, I never have problems getting the gold prize, which is all I am after anyway... Get gold, leave, buy new drift car and pimp it out... ;) hahahaha!!! Thanks for your response dude... ;)

Well, im thankfull for the Drift Mode (only the sessionals) because without it, i would need to RACE to have cash to buy and upgrade my cars. I don´t give a dimme for world records nor scoring... if i got the gold trophy, its done.

About angles... some points that makes most people dislike the scoring system are:
1. Its a solo pratice.
2. Its doesn´t respect the right cliping points, if you leave 3 wheels from the tarmac but keep one inside, youre in the game. Besides, there is no "external clipping point" value in the drift mode.
3. Angles. If you reach something near 90° or try a reversal entry, you screw your score.
4. Sections. As long you do what the game demands inside the sectors, you can screw up any way you want outside of them (dont drift, spinout, smack your car on the wall).
5. No categories based on PP or HP. That so lovely AE86 or S13 are nothing if you want be competitive... its better find a Speed 12 with ridiculous cambers and rollin while they hattin.
6. Online cheaters. If you go to the online sessionals, download the first place´s runs and analise that... you will understand what im talking about.
7. People who comes to the forum and brag how good they are in this mode.

I saw somebody complaining about this drift mode as a option for people who don´t have time to play onine... i guess they should use their time in the time attack drifting against their ghost, instead. At least they would improve their skills to the good side.
