I feel betrayed by Sony.

For some time now I've been playing with a third party digital-only controller. Not the best for the precise controls of GT4, I kept on loosing considerable time on those sweeper corners and on rallies.

Anyway, it broke down on me last night and I decided to buy the original DS2 by Sony. Went to my local store and paid a hefty €23 only to find after trying it home that it has a semi-analog right stick (with only stepwise increments) and a so touchy left stick that is no better than the D-pad. On top of that the face buttons are not analog. :ouch:

Clearly it isn't a problematic one but rather Sony decided to build extra DS2s with sub-par quality as my previous one was even worse with no analog capabilities what-so-ever. Only the one packaged with the PS2 was as it should be.

After all this rush I'm left with a temperamental controller, dissapointed by Sony FOR A SECOND TIME and feeling sad that I'm not going to play GT4 as I intended to. :indiff:

i use a "witron" third party controller.. terrible also in metal gear solid3 i can't shoot precisely or use the gun as i would..in gt4 i'm using ful throttle or tapping like mad when needed to prevent spin... the 2 DS2 i had with my second hand ps2slim are broken.. i'll fix one of them maybe, 30 euros for a ds2 is just too much..

Hm... that's weird. The controllers that came with my phat PS2 (Got it in 2000) still work flawlessly.

Mine still works too.
Maybe people likes to use them as proyectiles too often when they get second in a race by .001!

Yeah, sounds like you bought used controllers. I never buy used controllers. And Sony's controllers are the best you can get.

A while ago my original controller broke, that means I have to buy a new one. Since some local game shop told me I can get a local made one, and it's very cheap so I just get one for MYR60. The feel of the controller already was different but it doesn't bother me anyway. After only a couple of weeks of usage, the analog stick started to get very tight with a squeeky sound and that means it's very hard to play games like GTA or so. Ended up buying an original one for MYR100+ and it seems to work fine until today...

Why didn't you just take it back to the shop where you bought it, show them the receipt and state the problem?

Take it back and look for some more "trusty" ones. I remember I bought an LED controller for my PS2/3 and its handles are now covered in an additional pound of duct tape. And then there was my half broke DS3...

So glad I bought a wheel.

That's weird. I only buy Sony DS2 controllers. I buy 'em new (never used) and never third-party. I have to buy them new because a used one would not last very long in my hands.

But I've never come across one with digital-only buttons. I'm not sure what you mean by a "semi-analog" stick. You're sure it's a Sony controller?

I too only buy Sony PS2 controllers. Thay have lasted a long time considering that 4 guys, myself and three boys ages 19,17 and 13 use them also. Just bought a new one last year. Still works good. But I also clean them monthly when I vacuum the PS2. It's still going strong after 6 years.

Had nothing but problems with the third party stuff.

^I checked and no it is a SCPH-10010 so it's a genuine DS2. It is clear to me Sony made some extra bucks cutting down the quality, if not in all, in some of its range. For example in GoW2 I controlled Kratos with my original's DS2 analog stick and he had total freedom of movement, now its 12 directions. It's the second controller that this happens to me, from two different dealers.
