Hey :)

I know it's quite a lot what I am asking here but here's hoping someone can help me. I wanna tab the song from GT5 "Shadows of Our Past" by Daiki Kasho. I've never done this before and since I'm still learning how to play guitar (I've teached the guitar myself so it's a bit challenging for me sometimes...) but I really wanna learn this song because of simply how great it is. Also let's make this a general guitar players thread if all else fails. :P

I taught myself too, just off tabs on the Ultimate Guitar website. I play the intro to Free Bird well, and can play the opening riff to Money for Nothing by Dire Straits full speed (so awesome). I'm now working on Jessica, but my fingers are nowhere near fast enough .

Oh so you are like me. :D

My father never cared about me anyways so each time I asked him he would just ignore the requests. Granted he doesn't live with me since I was 4-5 so whatever, had to learn it the hard way.

I'm self taught as well and learned a bunch of Maiden songs by ear =P

I can't learn much by ear. I'm good at learning piano songs by ear, but I need tabs/YouTube to learn guitar. I was so proud of myself when I learned Money for Nothing .

Dire Straights are awesome... What about any other bands? Kansas? They have a lot of good songs like dust in the wind...

Slashfan, that's ok though. Again if all else fails this becomes a general guitar players topic. :3

Point of Know Return would be better to learn on violin . Carry on Wayward Son would be fun, if it isn't too fast. I was thinking of maybe trying Peace of Mind by Boston next.

Carry on Wayward son is easy! :P

I'll look it up, I won't have my guitar until Monday so it'll just be brainstorming for me until then!

I have an Epiphone Les Paul (the only one I use) and a recently broken acoustic . I don't like chords at all, I intentionally seek out selections with only plucked sections, maybe two string chords max.

I try to actively learn chords because it's a skill you NEED to play a guitar well... Plus it's great to make new songs or improvise when performing. Granted I don't got anybody to preform to. :/

Yeah, I suppose that's where I'm different, my main goal is if someone sits down near it I can just say, "Pass that over here." and I can play a quick riff, just to be funny . It's still fun!

Yeah I get it. Chords look easy and sound boring. :P

They don't look easy at all! Whenever I come across one on a tab the hand-stretching is painful, although I have become a tad more elastic .

They are simple if you know the chords. Sure sometimes all those 0's and x's look scary but it depends how you picture them...

Got a little bit more to go and use improvised solos but I've just about got down Heaven Can Wait by Iron Maiden

I'm self taught as well and learned a bunch of Maiden songs by ear =P

I can play the intro to Wasted Years... But without the insane picking... So I can't actually play it at all. :P If I remember correctly I also learned the start to Flash of the Blade... Or I tried and gave up.

I usually learn a bunch of Ozzy and Mercyful Fate tunes by ear. I'm currently trying to Learn Mercyful Fate's A Dangerous Meeting, But my rhythm playing is alot better than my lead, so I'm having a hard time with some parts of the solos :indiff:.

Crazy Train is pretty fun to learn. The bass intro sounds correct on an electric guitar too :).

Granted, rhythm tends to be a tad easier sometimes that the lead so that may be it.

I want to learn the opening riff for The Family Ghost off Abigail.

Ya. It's a shame though, I always wanted to be a good lead player. But I just have to remember: dreams never come true :grumpy:.

If you actually want to feel proud of yourself in the future for figuring out the riff by yourself, DON'T highlight the white text below (they're tabs)

1|------------------------
2|------------------------
3|------------------------
4|------------5-----------
5|-7-75--7579--7-75--5-7
6|0-0--70-----0-0--70305

sorry if the poor spacing makes it a little difficult to understand. This is literally the first tab I've ever wrote online. It might be a little off too, since I did this by ear.

Tune your guitar down a step, then it sounds unbelievably kick-ass.

That's a big list, and it is great to see you can play The Sign of the Cross completely. 👍

All by ear. The only part I have to figure out is the when it's all ahrmonics, when they play the chords but I got an idea what to do. I'd also like to play the lick Janick does after the solo (after the harmony with Dave and Janick) a bit faster. Other than that I've pretty much got the entire song down. I kid you not, it's INCREDIBLY EASY

For Wasted Year's intro, theres 2 ways you can go about doing it. You can strum everything or you can hammer on and strum 4 times. I personally strum everything. It's basically strum 5 times every note that goes down. (Btw if you get this down, you can play the intro to Thunderstruck by AC/DC, Losfer Word's harmony and the part Dave does in The Clansman. They all have the same progression just the Clansman goes up a few frets a couple times)

120000 70000 8000 50000 700 300 5000 20000 30000 50000 200 300 Start over

SLK, just use your fingers to pick that pattern. It's a lot easier than if you try to pick it with just a pick.

I sometimes play with the dull side of my pick. Makes for easier speed.

I thought about it and not lookin at your tabs I figured it out last night but I need to practice to play it up to speed.
