S license, F40 at at Suzuka is enough to make me sell my PS3, by an xBox, and write Kaz a really hateful letter.
I simply can't seem to do it, I struggle to break into the top 10 at best. This is using my usual settings (Pro, no ABS, no ASM, 1 click TCS), using the DS3, and trying to pass cleanly.
In the end I got fed up, bored and frustrated, switched it to standard physics and got a P3 on the next lap... it's good enough for now.
What I've found with all races, and the difficult one-lap challenges in particular is a very simple formula for success.
All I've done for the F40, F430 and similar events is:
1. Look at the laptime required for 3rd (bronze)
2. Go into Arcade and practice until I can consistently lap 2-3 seconds below that pace.
3. Come back into the event and blitz it.
Simply, if you have the inherent speed, the events are easy.
I've found this to be more effective than worrying about which car to overtake when exactly at which corner etc etc.
Similarly, I went gokarting with some friends recently and they complained about being held up for over a lap by some slower drivers. I hadn't even noticed the slower drivers as I'd got past easily as I was lapping 0.8s quicker than anyone else. Same principle applies to the events.
To improve your laptimes read any racing book or techniques manual, download the fastest ghosts studying their gears, lines and throttle/brake, and read this forum.
See, I said it was simple. Didn't say it was EASY though!!!
In the case of the F40 one-lapper if you can get your laptimes down to 2.18.9xx you should be ok for bronze. I'm struggling with silver on it, best is 0.5 seconds off, and my best is a 2.17.7.
That's what worked for me. Hope it helps, and I'm sure there are other ways.
