Hi

I've been a long fan of Forza 3, and I've been on the forum for ages, ever since Forza 3 came out. Before that, I played Forza 2, as well. The problem always was that I didn't have an Xbox; I simply played at my friend's, or borrowed their boxes.

Recently, I've saved up a bit of change, and I'm deciding if I'll buy a console this fall. I've heard of Microsoft coming out with a $199 Xbox Slim this fall, and at first I planned to buy it when it came out, and play Forza 3 on it, which I own. However, after watching some GT5P videos, and reading up on their website a little bit, I think I may have changed my mind.

While I've always thought the PS3 was pretty rubbish, (not that I've played on one), Gran Turismo 5 looks absolutely stunning. Yes, the standard/premium is a bit of a disappointment, but after a bit of thought, I've gotten over it with little problems. The sheer number of cars in the game is staggering, and I doubt I will be able to drive all 1000 of them. I'm happy for that, and for that features included in the game, such as night driving and rallying. All of these great things add up to what could be a really great game, and I think I might just buy a PS3 just for GT5.

One problem I had noted with the PS3, and a rather worrying one at that, was the lack of a good controller for racing. While the Xbox had 2 analog axes to control throttle and brake, the PS3 just has buttons. I will most likely not be buying a steering wheel/chair setup for quite a while, so that one's out. However, I think I've found a solution.

Looks very snazzy, and they're only offering it to the PS3. I think it's brilliant, and will definitely be buying one if I do decide to get a PS3.

Overall, I think I've been turned over to the dark side, but I think I will enjoy Gran Turismo thoroughly. I will, however, wait until it and that controller come out, and make my judgments then.

I am not quite sure I understand what you mean here.

With the exception of some aesthetic differences I don't see any difference. Both controllers have the same buttons.

I'm not sure what you believe the PS3 is missing, but I think you need to double check that before you spend money on an extra controller.

In place of a wheel I can see wanting that other controller, but if you think it is because something is missing on the PS3's controller you might be wasting some money.

EDIT: And I do own both systems and have used both controllers for racing games.

Going off of what FK has said, the PS3 has triggers, however they could be better, that's where these come in. They only cost $5 and greatly improve the DS3, especially when playing a racing game.

Oh, and welcome to :gtplanet:.

My mistake, I've always assumed that the PS3 controller (having never held one) was identical to the PS2, where all four shoulder buttons were just that, buttons.

No matter, because I will still be buying that controller, it looks incredibly useful once you get used to it.

What kind of arse-up PS2 controller is that? :odd:

Welcome to GTP by the way.

This is confusing. Is this an HKS controller thread disguised as an introduction thread? Two threads about this controller have been created (they were merged). Welcome to GTPlanet.

Just so you know, the X, O, triangle and square buttons are all analogue and sensitive to pressure, so you can use these instead of the triggersif you want.

But the A/B/X/Y buttons on the 360 are on/off and pretty much impossible to use for Throttle/Brake.

Most people use the analogue sticks anyway. But I still use my trusty old X and Square.

Thanks for the warm welcomes, and sorry for the confusion about the HKS Controller.

I never knew that the right thumb buttons were analog. That's so strange, but that could also prove too be useful.

Thanks, and I think I'm already enjoying this site. 👍
