Xbox Sucks!
I've been thinking taking up drifting and unsurprisingly, I'm a bit spoiled for choice when choosing a car.

Now to get to the point, I need a car that fits in with the below guidelines:

  • Below $500K (Not incl tuning)
  • Easy to learn
  • Can be brought at new car dealership
  • No trophy/used cars
  • Prefers premium cars.
  • Will settle for standard
  • And last, I don't play online or do trades

Advice appreciated. Thank you in advance :gtpflag:

Nissan S13 Silvia K's from the Nissan dealer.
Get the best of everything, but stick with comfort soft tyres.
Aero kit, but keep original boot spoiler.
That's the car I started with, and it remains one of my three "go to" drifters.

Mazda Eunos Roadster...something or other. Premium, under $20k, and drifts like a dream on Tsukuba when fully tuned with CH's. The only problem I had with it was when trying to re-initiate the last sweeper, came off into the grass a couple of times there.

Honda NSX Type R, do some mild power upgrades, try to keep it under 350hp so its super easy. get full race suspension with -35 camber in the rear and -45 in the front, along with -.35 toe out in the front and -.1 toe out in the rear. stiffen up the springs and dampers in all categories by two or three points, but don't touch the anti-roll bar stiffness. get a limited slip differential and set the two acceleration settings at 45-50 and don't touch the braking. then from there do any drivetrain upgrades like the clutch/flywheel that you feel necessary, and run between comfort hard and sports hard tires, i would recommend trying all four to figure out what you use best.

BMW Z4. Personally I like the '03 model but either year is fine. I would suggest adding everything except power upgrades first, and then continuously increase power slightly as you find the balance.

I don't know why everyone says the S13...It's too cliche and there are much better first cars out there. Try out a Z4 M coupe from BMW, or a Supra RZ in the used lot (if you can find it.)

i say the 2007 BMW M3 in the bmw dealer, it has great control in corners while drifting, mine is maxed out and i hardly had to adjust the settings either.

From what I seen the S13 seems pretty popular for the noobs so I might try that out

And Rise, your NSX seems pretty convincing too 👍

Exactly what he said. Also, I know you prefer premium cars, but if you come across the Sprinter Trueno AE86 S.Shigeno Version in the UCD, I highly recommend it. It may be "played out" but for good reason

premium FC RX7 is awesome starting car, 390hp and 1065kg's
standard rs200 ford is awesome starting car too, 425hp 1100kg's
premium alfa C8 comp is awesome intermediate car, 650hp 1200kg's

When I started drift I used a 455hp 370z, tuned of course. I use it for everything lol

But someone already said the Supra RZ, but if you can wait for it to show I would, it's super stable like an RX7 but has more power potential, it weighs more so now u don't have to go 1000 miles an hour to clear that last turn in Tsukuba in good form. If you do buy it, all I did was lower for looks and power tune, I thought it felt good already.

Your best bet on a first car is going to be either a Silvia/180SX/240SX/Sileighty, S2000, or RX7. My personal preferences among those would be S13, Amuse Street S2000, and FC3S, but really pretty much any model of those cars (that isn't a race car/very high powered) is going to get the job done for you.

To start out you don't really want to do any tuning to the car. Get Comfort Hard tires (you can start with Medium or Soft if that's what you prefer, but everyone ends up drifting Hards once they get everything sorted) and buy the Limited Slip Differential and set all three settings to 60 (for a fully locked differential/solid rear axle).

If you start out like this you'll learn the basics or initiation, weight transfer, and traction management much better than if you'd started on a tuned car. Also, you'll be able to better appreciate and take advantage of the tuned car once you decide to give it a go.

Start out on Autumn Ring Mini and just focus on being able to drift the individual corners, don't worry about linking until you're confident with the corners one at a time. You're first big exciting pat yourself on the back moment will probably be the first time you nail the big dual apex right hander after the back straight ;)

I don't agree. Myself and most people I know, some of them amazing drifters, go for comfort softs no matter the car, track or any other variable.

Interesting, most of the high level drifters I've seen swear by the hards. I myself used to go softs all the time to make myself work a little harder, and I liked the handling mid-drift with them, but eventually worked my way through mediums down to hards as I eased up on myself :P

Drifting is all about preferences, as long as you can get it sideways stylishly you're setup is pretty much good!

This is true. It's just that in alot of posts on this and other forums comfort hards are hailed as the only choice for the seasoned drifter. When the truth is as you say it's a matter of preference. I go with softs on all my drift cars, except one with very little power, on that I went for hards. Mediums I've never taken a liking to for some reason.

I started out with a 370z and an S15. Both are great but the S15 was better. I eventually moves on the re amemiya rx7(the blue one), which is also really good.

I started off with s13 and then amemiya rx7. Amemiya rx7 doesnt have alot of power. My favourate car is mazda rx7 spirit r
