Ok, So this is my first time posting a thread..
I looked for ages going through FAQ's & so on but I couldnt find anything..
Anway, I have a huge problem!!
For the last few months now my GT4 has been starting to do strange annoying things.
Things like freezing whenever I try to look at a Toyota in mine/toyota garage.
Last week it started freezing on the Oil change screen.
& More recently Its been freezing on pretty much everything.. Cant get into my Garage, Cant enter a race etc BUT I can buy cars still.. :irked:

Before anyone suggests to clean the disk its pretty much perfect! No scratches at all & still if I clean it nothing happens.
I've even tried cleaning the insides of the PS2 even the Lens, with no affect.

So does anyone have any suggestions that I havent thought of?
(Please suggest something other than buying a new copy of GT4 cause at the moment I am rather skint :ouch: ..)

Blargh. Tiny writing.

First, Welcome to GTP!

Second, your laser might be going, it has nothing to do with it being dirty, it might just be worn out.

Hey, sorry for the tiny writing maybe this is better.
My Ps2 is ANCIENT so you could be rite, but wouldn't it bodge up on all my games not just GT4?

If you have any friends with a PS2 or PS3 you might try taking your disc to their house and see if it works on their system. Maybe even they might have GT4 disc that you could try on yours.

GT4 is a 'dual layer' DVD, and so it's a bit more finicky than some smaller games. That's why it has a high level of Disk Read Errors.

It would have been far less risky to do what they did with GT2, make two disks.

My original copy of GT4 was used and I had all sorts of probs with it like the dreaded red circle that spun round and round and round, even tho it wasn't scratched up. :irked: Then I went and bought a brand-new disc and haven't had any problems since. 👍'

...sorry that's not the advice you wanted to hear, but that's what helped me.

I'm gonna have to try going to a mates house or something to see whether its the disk or the PS2..
Someone on GTplanet send me a Copy of GT4 please ^_^
I've been begging my mates if they have a copy, but NONE have..
I swear my mates are tards sometimes I mean none play GT4 at all! I dont have anyone to play GT4 against.

It's problably the PS2, my GT4 disc looks like it went through a CNC machine, and it runs like new.

The older PS2's quality and longetivity is really hit-or-miss, some launch ones are still going strong, while others are already paperweights.

I don't either :( A couple years ago I knew this guy on my street who had GT4 but he was kind of an ass--for him it was all about trying to push me around instead of just pure racing so after a couple times I stopped going down there. But then I used to have a housemate/friend back in my GT2 days who raced like I do...I kinda miss those days.

Exactly. Everyone that I play racing games with pick some Dodge Ram and bully me. :grumpy:

Sorry to bring the back on topic.... but

Sorry DC9990 you need a new ps2!! I have been through 2 myself (currently on my third! a sexy little slim line one)... it will be your laser dying.

Good news is though that you don't need to buy another copy of GT4!!! yay!!

Heh. Funny story: I've had the same damn issue with my copies of GT4.
The first copy was from the day GT4 came out. And it worked like crap, with the same issues on my old brick ps2.

So I went ahead and bought a slim pstwo. The freezing stopped for a while. And recently I purchased a ps3.

So I played my original on it, and the same old freezing BS started again. The disc is immaculate, so I figured it was just a botched copy. So I went ahead and bot a greatest hits version of the game, and the same crap is going on with my spankin' new ps3. Both versions are doing this.

WTF is the deal?!?! And it usually occurs after completing one of the few races I have left for 100% game completion. I think it's KY out to destroy my sanity telepathically thru GT4, personally.

I don't know....I guess I been lucky so far with my PS2 slim knocks on wood I have yet to have any probs with it and it's 2-1/2 years old now. :) My guess is that the PS3 is so high in technology they may not have worked all the bugs out yet? :nervous: Try some other games on it yet?

A few PS3's came broken when they was on thier way to the stores, and Sony will be more than happy to replace the PS3 for you, since some of them are bugged out.

....which sucks for Sony! Do you know that every PS3 that gets sold, several hundred dollars are lost? Sony is literally counting on PD to get GT5 out so it can recoup some of these losses.

LdS
This is a good opportunity to buy a PS3…

That made me laugh..
Did you miss the bit where I'm soo skint I can hardly afford a new copy of GT4 let alone a PS3!!

Ahh well, I've found a free solution.
Download it for my PC =]
It will probs run like crap & lag but oh well =]

Thanks for all your ideas & so on :]
I'll just have to steal some ££'s 💡

Someone mentioned about the life span of a PS2 being hit and miss n stuff, Well Mine has served me rather damn well to be honest! I've only baught the one, this old brick was one of the first few in UK so its getting on abit, might be time for retirement I guess..
I still dont get if it is the PS2 why only go wrong on GT4?
Maybe my PS2 got fed up of me gaming like almost constantly! In the last few weeks of its life I was doing the 24 hours getting the last few 200 a-specs

I guess the main answer here is "we don't know". :indiff: There are no resident PS2 console specialists here at GT Planet that I know of, so it seems the best answer any of us can come up with is "GT4 is a dual-layer DVD rather than an ordinary compact disc".

None of us really knows what to do about it unfortunately. I think at one point you may have said your mate had a copy of GT4, have you tried that yet? that would be my first step.

Good news =]
I got a free copy of GT4 & It works!! Its scratched yet it works perfectly.
Which is confusing cause my disc is perfect.
I'm not complaining it even lets me get in Toyota's :sly:
Le Sarthe here I come 👍

GT4 discs are a funny thing, aren't they? My original copy of GT4 was used but it looked fine...and I eventually had massive probs with it. My current disc (which I've played for several hundred hours by now) has a few fine scratches in it, and a couple partial fingerprints. I cleaned it the other day even tho it was working fine, and it still works fine.

Yeah, ive had the same problem dude. I got my PS2 when it first came out and about a year ago my laser was dying on me, i was getting all kinds of weird screens and problems. So i called up sony and told them what my issue's wer with my PS2.So they said send it to us and we will take a look at it,So thats what i did. When i got it back like a week later they had given me a list of the parts they replaced,Mainly the lens was the first thing they had to fix, and something else not sure what it was.But the best part is some how i still had warranty on it! so i didn't have to pay a dime on the thing! and she is still going strong to this day. So id try and call them anyways just to see what they say. you never know they might do the same for you.:)

I cant complete GT4 even though I have 2-dics, beacause they are both frezing whenever I exit a race. But I'm sure your Playstation 2 is just screwed up badly, and to be honest, I think my one is going to be screwed up in a couple of weeks, or months. But at the way it's going, it aint gonna last much longer! I could get a new lense, because that I almost centanly the problem, but I dont have a warranty, so for me it's gonna cost something like £300!

Dude if its gonna cost that damn much just save about an extra £50 & buy a PS3!!
Then you wont have to buy one when GT5 FINALLY comes out ^_^
