I really don't understand the point of remote B-spec

Moved from the b-spec forum because it seems nobody is there?

To me it seems that what you do is just make your drivers available and then you or someone else start a race where you don't know anything about what's going on and then you get some money and XP.

Where's the gaming/racing aspect in this?

Can someone explain to me if there is something fundamental that I've overlooked?

No, it's pretty simple. You even answered the question yourself...

you get some money and XP

And that's it. You don't have to do anything at all.

Can't really see a problem myself.

Moved back because that's where it should go... :odd:

Ok, fine :sly:

But still it is a mystery to me that PD have spent resources on making such an pointless feature. They could just have made a GT Life menu button saying "random prize" which you click, and a few minutes later you get some money and xp.

Conspiracy theories:
1) PD wants to have statistics on online gaming that exceed .... the way to do that is give free Cr and Exp online if you have friends.
2) PD wants to create communities that hang close together so that they build faithful followers that will not easily break their links ... this assures that the PS4 that will be bloody expensive will have an immediate success.
3) PD wants to have people to think about GT5 all the time and forget about F... what was it again.
4) PD wants less then 3 year olds to be able to do something with GT5 ... putting drivers in a race should be possible at 2?

PD is not thinking about games only, they are a business.

None of those are particularly well founded or even important.

You missed number 5 though:

5. Leaving PS3's on even longer than necessary for fulfilling the save-feature-less endurance races. Meaning more PS3's blow up. More $$ for Sony.

That's probably more likely than any of the above.

Either way just set your drivers to online, get some friends who remote race and just let them do the rest. Why complain that you 'don't get it?'.

Just don't do it if it's putting you out! 👍

I can make the same argument for B-spec racing in general. What's the point? You really think that hitting speed up, slow down, overtake, puts you in the race somehow? It's ridiculous. How often do you set up a B-spec race, give the Bob a car that a monkey could win with, and then go do something else? How does that really differ from setting the race up online remotely?

If you buy the idea of B-spec racing at all, you should buy the idea of remote B-spec racing. The difference between them is trivial.

The reason we all do it is because Bob can earn you credits you will otherwise not win and with those credits come more cars including the X2010. We all remote race for cars, not for credits, for cars.

I see your point, but I think remote races are just a feature that helps build community. Other than trading/borrowing/online racing, there aren't many ways to interact with other gamers in GT5. Other games have excelled greatly at this, like Forza, with their Storefront/Auction house and ability to make/sell custom vinyls, full car paints, and tunes to other members. You right, remote racing is kinda is lame, but it does get people interacting, and it is free money!

We bet money on the races.
Example:
50 bucks says K. Cummings can beat your B. van Burger.

Or... it gives us something to do at work.

I do it for the XP and the cash. Having a bunch of level 20+ drivers makes it a bunch easier to get through the B-spec mode of the game.

I like the community aspect of it. People have given me gifts for running their drivers. I like the fact that I run 15 drivers for other people just to run one of mine.

As to why PD are doing it, I think it's a massive distributed computing project giving them information about AI driver behaviour.

Hardware is more stable running at a constant temperature. Turning the PS3 on/off changes the temperature and degrades the components. My PS3 has been on (running, not standby) for the last 3 YEARS (apart from when I moved house and upgraded to a 500GB HDD) and I have had no problems with firmware updates, no random lock ups, no random disconnection from PSN etc.
Sorry to stray from the thread subject but I hate scaremongering. As long as you position the PS3 at least in accordance with the manual, you wont get overheating issues etc.

Well, when I am not busy hunting for cash and xp for my drivers and insuring my mates recieve their fair share, there is also the spectating aspect of it as well.

There are times when I don't feel like driving around, and merely watch. I am the type of guy who also enjoys admiring something, sort of in the same fashion one admires art by taking good long hard looks at it. I am the sort of fella that thrills in discovering and admiring the details of things, and cars are no exception, and when it comes to presentation (especially with the Premiums), Gran Turismo delivers. Just watching them run the brief or long races can be quite entertaining at times.

Another point I would add, is also the thrill of comparing different teams of BOBs at times. It can be kinda fun to see how one player's team can best another achieving higher positions (especially when it is not consistent with their levels, hehe). Being the type of guy who loves to watch sports, its my idea of entertainment watching competition, seeing how one person or team can best another.

However I only do this every now and then though, not much of a habit really. But when I do it, I enjoy it thoroughly. :) (Heck, I love watching my replays).

I think part of the reason for remote b-spec is to fix the horrible grind of GT5. People were running one race over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over to get enough cash to afford the higher end (10-15 million credit) cars. To me, that's crappy game design. There should be a better way to get $ and XP needed to access the higher end parts of the game. Remote b-spec is not by any means the perfect solution to a crappy grind, but to me its better than running one race over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over. It's a way to earn cash and XP.

You remote race not for yourself. You do it for someone else and then they'll return the favor to you. I run a couple races a day but I have friends who will do the same and everyone benefits. I make at least 500k a day off of remote racing.
