I that the DFP is for GT4.. but is the G25 better for GT4?

GT4 detects the G25 as a DFP. As a result there is no clutch and the shifter only works in sequential mode.

G25 is the better quality wheel of course so make your decision on that basis. Both are great for PC gaming as well and the G25 gives you extra benefits in games like rFactor and GTR2 (clutch, H-shifter etc).

I recommend the G25 over the DFP at any way you look at it.Sure its more expensive, but the money is well spent. The obvious benefits of the G25 is the bigger wheel of course as does the clutch and h-gears.It works on the PS2 and PC as well as the PS3 (i think) so this could actually benefit you in the future....

I'm enjoying mine now :D (but i still suck at drifting with it :( )

i started playing gt4 about a year ago and got driving force pro wheel almost from the off just to have a more realistic gameplay (have got bored of 'keyboard' racing a decade ago). but the wheel disappointed me. it's not the rubbery rim which is not the most pleasing thing to grip even now when it's soaked with my palms' sweat. it's even not the brake pedal which is ridiculously soft compared to a brake pedal in any real car, leave alone a sports car. what disappointed me most of all is the roughness of the wheel's internals. at first i even thought it may be broken or guys at the shop played with it for months making it loose and then cleaned and repacked it as new.
i guess you understand what i mean - dfp is actually miles away from a real car's steering wheel in terms of 'the quality of rotation'. the question is: is it worth going for the g25 wheel or it's advantages are limited to leather rim, bigger diameter and clutch pedal/H-shifter? what can you say about the g25 internals/gearing: do they work smoother than in dfp?

Without avoiding all of the technical issues... G25 >>>>>>>>> DFP.

Just see if you can get a go on one before you buy one. And you will buy one.

Notice: Not on European PS3. It did work, but with current firmware doesnt.

Am I understanding this correctly:

You are saying that the G25 did work on European PS3s with GT4, etc. (obviously only as a "DFP", as it is with there PS2), but with newer software it no longer works?!!!

Surely there can be no justification for Sony stopping the G25 from working on the PS3 if it did to start with?

Is there anyone running the G25 with GT4 and PS3, and is there anyone running a GT4 HD or GT5 demo with the G25 and PS3?

Somewhat concerned, as I'm just finishing a cockpit with a G25 in preparation for buying a PS3 and was intending to run GT4 on it until GT5 Prologue comes out – would be less than happy if the G25 doesn't work after all my work!

I'm not sure where that came from - I use my G25 with GT4 on the PS3 every day, and I'm a European with a European PS3.

Good to hear! Have you had it long and have you updated the system software – just wondering if there might be some truth in this "no longer works" claim...

I've had the G25 for six months, the PS3 since European launch day (March 23rd) and it's connected to a WLAN, updating every time the new firmware is released...

So, you've updated the software and have a G25 and it still works?

I have to admit I only used the DFP for about a week before I traded it in for a G25, but...

I do remember the G25 as seeming smoother than the DFP, however not hugely different. IMO what makes the G25 better is the feel of the leather over the unpleasantly rubbery rubber of the DFP; the larger wheel size; & the really solid, heavy feel of the steel pedals (I actually feel that the pedals are not unlike a real car's). The clutch & H-shifter hopefully will become a significant feature in the future.

The G25 wheel rotation still doesn't feel "like a real car", but I would say that if you spend a lot of time racing & think you will continue to in the future, the G25 is a worthwhile investment. 👍
