Hey drifters,
I think that I may have accomplished the impossible. I think I just made GT3 drifting official. I recently sent an email to www.mlgpro.com and this is what they had to say:
Lcpl. Adams,
Thank you for your interest in MLG. Someone in the company got your email and forwarded it to me, as they knew I would want to respond personally.
First, let me get to your inquiry. We have received a number of requests for some kind of drifting competition at our events. There are a few concerns we have from an operations perspective: the first is manpower. With 4 gaming tournaments running simultaneously, we have a scarcity of officials so that anything requiring more trained officials is tough for us to do. However, an exhibition tournament could be a lot of fun and without money on the line, we don't really need MLG Officials judging. Second, time is tight at our events. Two days seems like a long time, but scheduling is tough.
I'm submitting your email to our events coordinator and commission to review whether we can fit an exhibition tourny into the Philly event. If not, we should be able to get it into later events- there are 8 more across the country between Feb and Oct.
Thanks again for your email. I wanted to respond personally for a number of reasons, but one because I have an uncle who spent about 12 years in Oki during his career before retiring a couple years ago. His daughter, my cousin graduates from boot camp in a few days. She practically grew up in Oki.
Thanks again for your interest in MLG and more importantly, thanks for your service.
Best regards,
Mike

Subject: Possible Tournament Suggestion
Dear Major League Gaming,
I am Lcpl. David A. Adams a Marine stationed over in Okinawa, JA. I just wanted to congratulate you on your endevor into professional gaming sponsorship. To be all the way over here and still hear about this company means that word must really be getting around. I'm digressing however, my reason for emailing you is because it was bought to my attention that you have tournaments for Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec, some fellow gamers and I have a proposal of sorts. We were proposing that you come up with a D1 Grand Prix of Gran Turismo 3. A drift compition which is rated on style of drift and where points are given on a number of factors including tire smoke, angle, smoothness, control, etc. This isn't small town gaming here. We are talking about thousands of gamers world wide, and hundreds of gamers state side that are participating in these drifting competitions online. For further proof I direct your attention to https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/f-115.html. Here you can see that there are more than enough participants willing to compete for a chance at Gran Turismo 3 drift glory and stardom to give this tournament some credibility. I can almost guarantee that this wouldn't be a waste of funds or time on your company's part and I'm sure that more than half of the drifters in Gran Turismo 3 would be willing to pay any extra fees (on top of registration) that may inccur. I'm sure this letter seems like some kid with a wild pipe-dream just trying to have fun, but I assure you that my quest into actual sponsorship of this type of exhibition is completely legit and one-hundred-precent credible. I appreciate you taking the time to read this email and I would greatly appreciate some kind of response. If neccessary, I can get some of my fellow Marines to help with the planning of this type of event as there are a lot of Marines that actually drift real cars over here, I'm one of them.
Thank you for your time and Semper Fidelis,
LCPL. David A. Adams
