This is easily the best Rig I have seen. Kudos on a well thought out and executed plan.

👍:tup:Looking great Simon 👍👍

Very tidy and clean, just the way i like it :)

I wanted to buy that OMP seat too, but finally went for a more comfortable one after fitting both.(after museumsteve's advice)

This one does have that better racy look though.

lol..my dilemma goes on as it seems you can get the OMP trs in XL but only in black :(

Thanks for the nice comments guys :)

@museumsteve:
The seat is bolted directly to a base-plate using the bottom mounting points on the TRS. These pictures should explain it a bit better:

@bigbembem: Well, triple projectors are on the horizon but not for a while (I need to recoup some money since the wedding!). Other than that, just some minor (but cool) mods. Watch this space! :)

Those pics give us even a better look a your rig 👍

Just wondering? No wheel upgrade planned?

The GT2 is a great wheel, but this rig needs something better:D

Should the seatbelts no be connected to the seat holder? If i'm not mistaken the belt now thightens en loosens when the seat moves?

Also love the pic with the three A500 in the background, i missed that one yesterday. Great Stuff :)

Yeah, I'm waiting on the Fanatec CSW (you can just make out the CAD model of it in the top picture - thanks must go to Mars Attacks for sharing his model with me)👍

The harness does indeed tighten up when the seat moves forward (to try to simulate the forces you'd feel in a real race car). The springs are there to add a degree of realism to the feel... :)

Looking good as always, nice updates and the powder coating makes all the difference.
Great looking rig.

The OMP seat looks good too, amazed to see its price is about a 1/3rd of the Cobra model I bought. Maybe comfort is a bit higher with Cobra/Recaro but I've seen prices for such go up in the last couple of years. Many race seats are tight/snug I wish I got an XL size for a bit more comfort and recommend anyone considering a seat if they are over a 40" chest / 34" waist go with an XL size.

The tension springs for the seatbelts must feel cool.

Thanks 👍

When I first started this build, I was out of work so required a 'budget' seat. I've had OMP products before and was always impressed. The TRS is a comfortable seat (for me anyway, don't know about you fat bastards!) but the fabric version was starting to look tatty (2 years old now) so I opted for the vinyl model. With the lumbar support it's extremely comfy,

Latte, the harness is awesome; really adds to the immersion, especially during braking when it tightens up :)

A really great build and the details and quality looks just great.
I hope I can start my own build once I'm back in Germany.
Definitely I'll inspire on your rig, because I really like the center console.

Thanks 👍

Nice to hear the harness adds to the feel.
I've seen CXC simulators use spring tension harness and actually got a bargain last week on a new Sparco "Red" set for only £30 (just another thing to set past).

Congratulations on the wedding...

boo...that's what I bought but didn't work for me.
I was using them on a bar system like simxperience style but they bent over as soon as I attached the actuator rods and it took the weight.
I like your corner section idea so may give something like that a go..I have 4 bobbins already so may have a play anyway and see how it goes.

Well, it would depend on the hardness of the rubber (did you get yours from the same seller?) 'cos some can be really soft. The ones I got are pretty hard; you can barely move them by hand. Plus, there're four of them used on each corner.

No Springs Attached

So, I decided to change my four-point harness out for a race-spec five-point version. Why? Well, with the four-point one, when I braked the seat would tip forward to simulate braking and the harness would tighten up as it was supposed to but it would also be pulled upwards so that it ended up sitting across my stomach rather than at my waist. This was getting on my nerves so I decided to swap it out for a five-point harness with crutch strap to stop it pulling up. 👍

I went with OMP again and wasn't disappointed. The race spec version is much better that the road-going one. Wider straps (3"), quick release buckle and more adjustability. It's easier to adjust the tightness now with the shoulder strap tensioner; just pull down on the webbing to tighten or lift the tensioner up to slacken off. So much better... :)

I also (after some experimentation) got rid of the springs that were used to tension the harness. It's now hooked directly to the chassis and when you brake now, you can really feel it! The springs actually diluted the effect and with the shoulder tensioners, it's easy to get it tightened to a comfortable level. It's night-and-day without the springs. A great improvement!

lol..more awesomeness :D

I ordered some bobbins from the place you got yours from so will see how hard they are when they arrive.
I cobbled something together last night to see what effect the extra damping has and I get the feeling it's a big difference..from what I already thought was a brilliant feeling :D

The more I look at your rig the more I want to paint my framework :nervous:

Simon, your rig just keeps getting better all the time. I have been thinking of going with motion, one thing that I keep on thinking about however is losing concentration because of the motion. Is that even a factor for you? and also I think I would have a hard time gripping the wheel if the seat is getting thrown around. What are your thoughts about that?

For a much more durable finish you should get it powder coated.

museumsteve
My framework is aluminium profile, my understanding is powder coating may struggle where joins are

Anodize it. The amount of surface material added is next to impossible to measure without a micrometer that reads down to .00005"

Anodizing can also increase the strength of aluminum as it doesn't just cover the surface. It can penetrate into aluminum as far as .010" that I've seen.

Used to see guys hard anodize piston ring lands all the time, not so much anymore because it does change the expansion rate of aluminum. You do still see it used on OEM pitons though, lots if turbo Subaru's OEM pistons are hard anodized ring lands. Probably why they break too, lol.

No problem at all.
I over powder coated already all kinds of metal with all kinds of different joints and never any problems.
Just the surface has to be completely clean and the result will be great and durable.

Thanks for the nice comments Darren. 👍

As for adding motion, I'd highly recommend it. You won't loose hold of the wheel or find your feet lifting off the pedals if you set an accurate motion profile in software. These people who complain about those things have obviously experienced a very aggressive profile (which looks great to onlookers and on video) which is not only unrealistic but makes it very difficult to maintain any control! :)

Less is more (at least, that's what I tell mrs_greeze )

lol..so true..I've seen some shocking videos.
Less really is more :)

They're anti-vibration mounts and I got them from eBay. :) The link below is to the seller I used (av_mountings) but I didn't see any of the size I bought listed (I bought the 8mm thread / 25 dia type). But at least you get the idea... :)

Had some of these delivered today and they are harder than my previous ones ;) so inbtween footie games tonight I'll have a quick play
