The wheel unit is just a G25, which only costs about as much as an old, crappy car.

yea they're a couple of hundred. i guess if you can buy a G25 you may aswell a decent cockpit to go with it. man id love that one

just googled Vision Racer, $1150 US hmmmmm

Yeah, but what I don't understand about these designs is why is the screen positioned so high up. I mean, when you think about your sight lines driving in real life, you're looking straight ahead and slightly down onto the road. This setup, like so many others, has you looking up. I just don't see why they design them like that and then charge big bucks.

my geuss is that you do look down alot when you actually drive, but when i think about it you do have to look up to see where the road goes around the next corner. but you have a good point, ive never thought of it like that

Actually that reminds me of of a photo where a dude had a projection of GT4 on a wall and it looked way better for driving. the perspective on the screen is generally really low looking up, and when put that up high it doesnt seem right. i think ive just got used to it since my tv is always sitting on something.i do think its better with rFactor though

TV viewing, and for that matter, movie theater viewing is typically up a bit higher. But for racing simulation I think that a lower screen is simply more realistic. I have a very low screen on my setup. I prefer to drive LMS Prototypes, so when I'm taking a right-hand corner, for example, I'm actually leaning right and focusing slightly down on the screen and to the right at the inside of the corner. LMS and F1 cars are low to begin with, so I feel a lower screen makes everything more realistic.

I have a vision racer, and I love it, the best thing about it is I got it for free. :D:

The reason... I know the guy who makes them, infact he is one of my dads best mates.

Dont get me wrong, if I got it for free I would also not say no, but its just not the best option when you actually have to pay for it...

:drool: That is an awsome set up only problem for me is that the shifter is on the LEFT side. Since i live in Canada that would feel WRONG.
That has me wondering if they have a right hand positioned shifter version of it. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

I bet you could request it, mine came with the shifter on the left, but its not hard to get it on the other side, although i wouldn't have a go at it myself, i can't weld anything properly.

I wouldn't have had the money for it, if I hadn't been given it, it is my favorite possesion though.

In the book speed secrets, the writer says that you should look as far ahead as you can (which would be more up than down.)You drive smoother and can react better to anything coming up. For a low to the ground feel, try the bumper cam.

I agree, you should look as far ahead as possible.

However, the position of the monitor on some of these set-ups is way too high up. For some reason, most cockpit setups has the monitor positioned in such a way that you are actually looking up to view the screen, instead of straight ahead. If I were to drive like that in real life, I would be looking at the sky, not the road ahead.
