I want to race with my Xbox 360. What should I get?

My brother left me his Xbox 360. Since I don't use it, I thought I would try to get something out of it by using it as the foundation of a race simulator.

But I have nothing else, so I need a cockpit, steering wheel, pedals, games, and whatever else I am not thinking of.

I would like to keep the budget to below US$1,000. What should I get?

Thanks,

Well the only good wheel for 360 is currently fanatec turbo S. There is lot of ok cockpit options but i have decided to build my own. If you do not sink too much money to cockpit, you can easily buy also a wheel and ps3 for that money.

Fanatec Turbo S Ultimate Edition (wheel + clubsport pedals): $400
Forza 3/ Supercar Chanllenge/... $60 each
Playseats Evolution: $300-400
Playseats WRC: $600

HN7
Fanatec Turbo S Ultimate Edition (wheel + clubsport pedals): $400
Forza 3/ Supercar Chanllenge/... $60 each
Playseats Evolution: $300-400
Playseats WRC: $600

Keep in mind that the Turbo S Ultimate Edition does NOT come with separate shifters. If you want a gated shifter, or don't want to use paddles for sequential, then you will need to buy them separate.

Still, I do highly recommend buying the Turbo S Ultimate Edition and the shifter set.

Forza III is pretty amazing with the setup.

Unfortunately with the update to the 360 today the H Gate doesn't work in any game any more I've tried both Forza and the NFS Shift demo on my 360 and neither works anymore, but on the PS3 it still works.

Please make sure that you select 900 in the SEN setting of your Tuning menu. Otherwise the game cannot recognize the PWTS

If it helps at all I helped MrCoty with his wheel and we went through at least 5 shifter calibrations. nothing helped but it does work fine on the PS3. It acts like the shifter is being put into another gear and only 2nd, 4th and 6th are recognized. But it won't stay in gear. Currently my Xbox is in transit from the repair center so I have not been able to test it on my system although I will try his setup on my 'box when it gets here Monday if a fix has not been posted.

gchuva this should not deter you from buying the Turbo S in anyway though. It is an awesome wheel. I really think this is a problem with the new firmware on the 360, not the wheel itself.

I have to completely agree with Frizbe, as irritating as it is that the shifter isn't working properly on the Xbox I absolutely love this wheel, it makes Forza better (when Forza cooperates) and GT Prologue amazing. I Definitely recommend this wheel if your on the fence.

I am having no problems at all with my shifter on the 360.

I literally just loaded up Forza 3 after reading the above posts, and everything is working 100%.

What it sounds like to me is that you need to calibrate your shifter. You do so by pressing the Start Button + Tuning Button at the same time. Then it is a step by step for each gear. Place the shifter into Neutral, then hit Start. Put it in Reverse, then hit Start. Put it in 1st Gear, then hit Start, and so on for all the gears as prompted to do so. When you get to the end, just hit the Tuning Button to leave calibration mode.

I have calibrated the shifter multiple times, everything reads just fine on the PS3 it simply doesn't work on the 360,

Bill Gates- "Wait, what? There's a wheel set up thats fully works with our Box and the PS3?!?! Oh we'll just see about that, send out the new Firmware!"

He always has let his pride get ahead of proper decisions :P

No need to be a jerk about it. Buddy.

So I missed that part. I was simply trying to help. My wheel is working perfectly fine on 360, PS3 and PC.

Not to worry though. Won't bother chiming in to help again.

Actually i was curious, you did do the update right? Also I have e-mailed Microsoft and will post up what they say cause it seems to me its an issue with the xbox not the wheel

Yeah, both of my 360s are fully up to date, and I have tried it on both of them successfully.

What firmware are you using on the wheel?

I am using 660 on mine.

Using 669 just got my Xbox back and all is fine with my setup. MrCoty and I tried to load the 660 FW on his wheel and although the wheel and uploader program said the FW was updated the wheel is still saying 669, on the bright side his shifter problems have gone away.

So still go buy the Fanatec, their support system seems to be working much better now.
