So while I was re-watching 4th Stage last night, I came up with an idea and thought I would get the help of the GTP community to complete my project. Basically the idea is, if Initial D were to take place in the USA, which roads in your area would be suited for the story with 1-on-1 battles?

Particular roads I am looking for feature:
  • 2 lanes
  • Lots of corners
  • Mid to lower speeds
What I need from you:
  • Google Maps link showing the location(s)
Please NOTE: Discussion of illegal activities pertaining to real life events are prohibited in this thread!

Yeah no kidding. :rolleyes::P

Need recommendations from personal experience and knowledge, not my estimates using satellite photos. ;)

I don't have links right now, I'm on the phone, but check out Pigs Trail in the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas, and also Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge Parkway in the Appalachian Mountains, from Front Royal Virginia all the way down to South Carolina. I've driven them both, and even at low speeds (State Parks) they were twisty and fun.

West Virginia, anywhere, it doesn't matter, there's not a single straight or flat road in the entire state.

I know that. The road behind my Uncle's house goes up and down a lot and on the road you can barely fit two cars while your tires are on the edge. That was the most crazy road I've ever driven on. The other roads are quite fun compared to NY.

I live at the base of the San Gabriel Mountain Range here in Southern California. A very popular and accessible windy and fun road is called Glendora Mountain Road. It connects to some other windy roads (Glendora Ridge Road and Mount Baldy Road) which could be included as seperate stages because I doubt there's a set of tires that could make it all the way up GMR, across GRR, and down MBR.

Anyways, they are already a hot spot for weekend street bikes and late-night drifters with spotters since it's county territory and sheriffs are relatively scarce unless called in. During the morning and day time these roads are used by cyclists and were the centerpoint of the AMGEN Tour Of California (the biggest cycling even in North America - a warm up to the Tour de France) and it considred on par with the most difficult mountain stages in the TdF.

Highway 9 Saratoga, CA
A- 37.25824,-122.1216
B- 37.255704,-122.036997

This section of road is used by many many motorcyclist's and car enthusiasts in my area. I've personally rode down it on my bike many times and have always thought it would be a good road for drifting.

Yeah I already have that road marked on the map. Never been on it, but definitely well informed about GMR. 👍

If you're going to give it a spin in the future, let me know! I live right there and I know some good places in the mountain for a brew.

EDIT: Thought of another one: Highway 1 in Bug Sur, California. 👍

You could set the whole thing in Southern California and have more than enough roads, haha. Latigo, Tuna Canyon, the Stunt/Schuren/Piuma/Mulholland Hwy loop, Decker Canyon, and more in the Mullholland Highway region all fit the bill, as does Mt. Wilson off Angeles Crest Hwy, the infamous Turnbull Canyon, and a never-ending list of roads beyond those. That's not even starting on the roads that are still "underground."

Blood Mountain in N. Georgia area is beast also. Working your way up one side and down the other but two lane. Extremely steep in areas.

That sounds like the total opposite of where I live. I need to get away from Philly.

Someone should ask Top Gear USA to do a segment on this in the next series.

Unfortunately i don't know of any locations in the states just loads in Scotland, these roads will most likely never be used for anything other than sitting behind a nissan micra crawling at speeds way below the limit:yuck:

All the places suggested so far look great:tup:

Checked it out. There's a good, small section then a bunch of straight and a few houses around. Trying to minimize proximity to houses/businesses if possible.

Don't currently have a car but should have one before next summer. May take you up on that.

Added a few of those. 👍

Do you know which road specifically?

Maybe, I think it would be a bad idea to show where they are though or give out names as it would become a potential problem with people actually trying to run them and causing accidents. I know there's a small underground movement for a lot of these and most of the drivers are good at what they do, but if you open it up to the whole public you could potentially have an issue.

Anyway, no discussion of real life events. ;)

Highway 120 leading into Yosemite:

(Not my video)

There were also some REALLY nice roads coming out of the park when we went there, but I can't remember the name of the road.

Just looked at the map of that area, looks like a few good roads. Will add them on Friday when I get back to a real computer. 👍

Also, I encourage everyone here to "Like" my new facebook page. (link in my sig) :sly:
