Hello again!^^

So I've come back after a hiatus due to school, depression, disinterest, etc. but now that things are looking up, I've decided to return to GTP.

Another reason why I'm here is because of something that happened a week ago. My dad called saying he bought me something. This is basically short-hand for how the conversation went...

Dad: Hey, I bought you something.
Me: Cool! What'd you get me?
Dad: I got you a car.
Me: A car!? Okaaaay...what is it?
Dad:...a 1993 Jaguar XJ40.
Me: Oh! O_o.....Th-that's awesome...I guess!?

I don't think I've ever felt so excited, confused, and terrified all at once.

Anyway, he's coming down from Indiana this Saturday to bring the Jaaaaag, and even though he bought it off a desperate college student for $1800 it at least seems decent from what I've heard so far. It's got 113k miles on the odo, faulty O2 sensors (the previous owner put regular unleaded in it >_<), and the rearview mirror is currently held up with rubber bands and needs replacing. Other than that it seems okay given it's a 23 year old British car. I can't post any pics yet since the only ones I have are on a phone with a poop-quality camera, but I will get some nice photos on here soon. I'm fairly certain it's got the 4.0 I6, and my gosh it's a pretty car even with the peeling clear-coat! *drool*

Of course, a Jaguar wouldn't be my first choice for another car, but Dad's already got it and all I'd have to pay for is the title & reg and insurance, so I can't really say no, eh? I do plan on keeping my dinky little Mercury Tracer just in case, and maybe if the Jag is too much I can sell both and get a car for 4-5 grand, but hopefully I can hang onto the Jag so my lil' bro gets the Mercury once he earns his permit next year, we'll see. :)

EDIT: Now with (crappy) pics!!! Looks a little rough but not terrible...we'll find out after I see it in person tomorrow :)

The driver's side headlight is out of alignment. I hope it hasn't been wrecked :S

There's no such thing as a 1993 Jaguar XJ40.

$1800 for a 23 year old Jaguar? I wish you luck good sir, you're a lot braver than I. They are definitely handsome cars though, I'd love to see some proper pictures when you get it.

Never knew it was called, that, I only thought there was XJ6, XJ8, XJ12, and XJS.

Dad actually did say it was an XJ6, but it's a '93 which is a year after the series III was axed. I'm assuming it's an XJ40 unless he got the model year wrong, will confirm once I finally get a good look at it.

EDIT: It's an XJ40 for sure. It has the rectangular headlights, the XJ6 only had quad round units.

It's definitely worth more than that, the only reason it was so cheap was because the guy selling it needed quick cash for textbooks. I just hope the guy didn't thrash it ragged, or do anything worse than put 87 octane in the darn thing (grrrr...)

XJ40 is the chassis code, XJ6 is the base trim level. Other models like the Sovereign had rectangular headlights and not quad rounds.

The reason why it was so cheap is that this car will be a potential hellish nightmare to own. I am super envious though, an XJ laid balls out on air ride yes please :D

Here's something you should read, looks like it's written by someone who's trying a little too hard to be funny, but from the drivetrain and suspension stuff he knows what he's talking about and you should read as much as you can before driving the car so you know what to look out for

Also here is a collection of Lucas jokes, which must be fitting.. Electrics seem to be like a hit and miss thing, some seem to never have had a problem with it while electrics on British cars has been a running joke for many years.

Oh yeah, and this thread is worthless without pics..!

Have fun with the 25 fuseboxes scattered throughout the car. :D

These can be great cars, but if any electrical gremlins are there, they usually won't leave anymore.
