I'm getting frustrating on AI races

AI races in Custom Race on Arcade Mode are frustrating me. In AI races my goal is always be 1st place. I'm not always achieving this. I'm playing on Intermediate AI level, 20 cars and 20th position. I don't like long 5-10 lap races but I can't always be first with 3 lap race. It's frustrating. Maybe I could choose less cars. 16, 12 or even classic 6, or change attitude. I will have "for fun" attitude for online races.

I'm taking AI races seriously in Arcade Mode Custom Race. My goal in every AI race is to be first. I'm choosing intermediate level, 20 cars and 20th position to maximize credits earning. I'm not always winning and it shouldn't frustrating me, but it does. Too small laps number or problems on turns on Blue Moon Bae Speedway, or even AI can act dirty and it makes me loss the lead. I'm tired. I will have for fun attitude to online races. I know, I can choose low cars. For example 16, 12 or even classic 6 cars. But credits....

I don't have level 20 (just reached 19) yet so I don't have Nuburgring so I can't use known credit glitch

You know you can choose any number of laps you want in custom races? Or you can choose endurance race type, custom race laps is 200 laps max and endurance is 24h max.

If you start all the way back, i would maybe try 10 laps for been able to catch up to the leader car.

7 laps too much effort for me. I don't want so much effort. It suppose to be relaxing, not tiring. I don't want to play next day because I want to Refresh Windows in my laptop, but I don't want to do it with awareness that I have nothing to play on PS4.

Well considering how unrealistic that setup is, it's no surprise that it would be frustrating. That "arcade" racer mentality is what I feel is at the core of many of Gran Turismo's biggest issues and has no place in something calling itself a sim. Any real race where a driver can tool a car from last place to first in just a few laps had some serious issues with their rules. Simplifying the excitement of racing down to merely how many passes happen completely misses the point and undervalues the skill it takes to actually execute a pass and end up in a good finishing position.

And here you are voluntarily signing up for that.

If you are after credits, do the school, mission mode or circuit experience. If you are after a realistic experience, set up longer races and a mid pack starting position on professional difficulty and get good. If you can only have fun when passing other vehicles, just stick to GT League.

Or maybe you can start to appreciate that there is more to racing than just driving past other cars and start to understand what it takes to get better. Then take it to Sport mode and race other people.

Yeah, just stick to GT League...:indiff:

This thread is interesting because you have the other side of the coin in GT's history of game design: the user who prefers the 'chase the rabbit' singleplayer.

The fanbase is definitely split as far as the definition of 'racing game'. For some, finishing 1st will always be the only source of satisfaction. In fact, older GT titles incentivized you to do this and only this to get the shiny rewards. On the other hand, for others 'racing' is about incremental improvement of lap times and the thrill of dicing it up through high risk/high reward battles where there is little margin for error if you want a podium.

It's important to remember that racing games that simulate a real race weekend are a pretty niche thing in game design, especially on consoles. Imagine if the "normal mode" of FPS campaigns ended the first time you died. Most console games, and PC games with story modes, have a ton of guardrails that guide the user through the gameplay.

Old GT had 'guardrails', because the user was expected to pass everyone and finish 1st after a few tries: your own personal power fantasy. Real racing is quite a different beast.

You make it sound like GT Sport is different. How so? They may not start you in last place anymore but there are also a lot more that six cars on the grid now. And many of the challenge missions are all about "pass all the cars in x-number of laps".

Very rarely does the game demonstrate awareness of realistic racing scenarios.

Sorry I was referring to the core gameplay of the game, whether it be old GT or GT Sport. I should have explained myself better.

The Sport mode is clearly the focus of the game, and they have de-emphasized winning vs. doing incrementally better than similarly-ranked opponents each race. Even the UI has been tweaked in Sport mode to show you how many places you improved during the race, and the race winner is not even shown anymore.

The old-style singleplayer GT content in GTS I kind of glossed over as it's not the core focus of the title.

So why practice frustrating me and makes me done? I was playing GT for five years. It seems GT Sport is not for me or I should working at my attitude. Unless I'll try online mode.

If you must win every time just turn the AI down to Easy....ot would appear the Intermediate AI are too much of a challenge fot you in this game

Horses for courses......

Today I enjoyed AI races. I was always setting car position to 12t, and set 4-5 laps. I turned off driving line but left turn marks. I enjoyed today's races. So maybe that frustration was temporary.

So you basically want to have Lewis Hamilton pace but willing to put no effort to get it? Okay

Set race length = 1 lap of the oval
Start off at the front of the grid
Open the grid up to the longest distance between cars
Set the AI to the lowest skills
Set the competing cars to N100
Choose a Group 4 car
Max out its aero
Equip RSS tires

There you go, sit back, relax with your foot on the gas and avoid getting tired or expending effort

And it's better to race 4-5 laps when you start from a better position like 12th, sometimes i don't even win in 8 laps in 11th position, but maybe you mood is a bit better as well today and you have more patient than you had yesterday?
But i think i would be frustrated as well if i race 4-5 laps and started in 20th position, it don't give us much room for mistakes sine the race is so short.
