I'm genuinely sorry.

I followed you into a hairpin in last night's Gr.4 Daily (B/B). I think it was the 2nd lap. You were in 1st and I was pressing you in 2nd place. I drafted up to your bumper as you defended and I was too late on the brakes, ramming into you and sending you flying off the track. I did lose SR, but I did not get a penalty.

I was able to pull 3 seconds away from the rest of the pack after that incident and, as my race was clean from there on out, my overall SR actually went up which I didn't deserve. I can only imagine your reaction.

I think we would have had a great battle as we were clearly very evenly matched. We had already switched places and then back again cleanly on the first lap and I think your quali time was only a few hundreds of a second faster than mine.

If you're reading this and think it might have been you, then please accept my apologies. I make a point out of not intentionally creating contact.

Your going to be told that you could have pulled over and given the position back.

It crossed my mind but he dropped back into at least 5th. The whole pack was bunched up behind me and giving up 1st would have probably caused even more chaos.

The old Vettel "Its my fault, sorry" quote.
If you were actually sorry, like @rono_thomas said, you should have given the position back and set a good example for us all.
Instead you went on with your "clean" race, won, got better DR/SR and then apologize here.
I am not attacking you mate, but for sure I dont think you set a good example by posting how sorry you are (do you actually know for sure that that guy is a member here or is ever gonna read this at all) after your "track behavior" shows something different. It may well be the only time you ever rammed someone but thats not my point anyway.

As I said, he dropped back into at least 5th. It would not have been possible for me to give him 1st place back.

He said give his position back meaning that you had to wait until he is in front of you,not put him back in 1st position.
But by doing that you'd drop back P6-P7 so its was not...."possible" or "safe" to do that.

If you're telling me you would have done exactly that in the same position, if you can honestly say that is what you would do, then I can't dispute you.

You've gained one place from making a mistake and lost SR for that mistake. You would then give up 6 places purely out of honour, in an online game? I think we know the answer.

Actually you are wrong and you dont know the answer.I would. Its not "honor",its "racing etiquette" (part of being a clean racer).
But either way my way of racing (I could possibly be really dirty driver no matter what I post here to look "good") is not the topic.
You created a post,to apologize to someone that you dont know he is a member here.
You could have given your position back or if its something that people dont do online -your opinion- send a pm msg to him in PSN and apologize.
Since you did neither and instead came here to open this, then you have to accept different opinions about what you should have done.

You taking this way too seriously and being a bit pedantic. This is a game. We're not out there on a crisp Autumn Sunday morning racing our WRXs and then going for a pub lunch together.

If you've assumed I've made this post to make myself look good, rather than because I actually wanted to apologise in the hope he might see it, I think that says more about your mind-set than it does about mine.

This community can be so belligerent sometimes. You get more congeniality on the subreddit.

Did I write something you didnt agree with?

Sorry to intrude in your discussion, fellow (semi)-sim-racers, but...

Actually you are wrong and you dont know the answer.I would. Its not "honor",its "racing etiquette" (part of being a clean racer).

...no, it's not. Giving the position back is something that you only do when the loss incurred by the opponent / the advantage you've gained due to your illegal maneuvers is small enough that this doesn't cause you to lose other positions. Else, in real life the penalty will be decided by the race marshall. Slowing down in the middle of the track and letting other people pass may actually be an infringement of racing rules on its own. And besides, what if the guy you just bumped retired from the race due to mechanical damage? Would you have to "give him back the position" in that case, too?

Mate if its just a "game" and we dont need to be too serious then there is no need to create a post like this either (I am following you logic here).
You played a game, within the game rules and you won.So there is no need to apologize for anything.

Really mate?Thats you opinion,I respect that,I have a different one.

We are talking about sim racing and not RL racing. In RL there are rules, regulations and race officials that decide the penalty. If you do something like ram someone off track, the best case scenario is a stop-go penalty.
That could cost a lot more than 1-2 places and its really safe for everyone.
But in sim racing we dont have "live officials" do we?

Jesus, you two. You're all about one side of the line or the other, aren't you? There is NEVER a NEED to apologise for anything. Some people WANT to apologise when they have done something wrong; clears the conscience. Agree or disagree on the etiquette/honour, that's fine, but if you think this post was so pointless then why give credence to it by picking up on every single technical aspect you possibly can in pursuit of being correct. I'm guessing that some things have happened in your lives that led to these superiority complexes.

It's ironic that you're accusing me of making this post to make myself look good, and then dropping lines like "Over the many years of racing online, if contact is my fault I give the position back." and, "I race as I want others to end of... If that means I drop from 1st to 6th so be it." Such martyrs.

LOL, you are obviously not new here, so in all honesty what did you expect to happen?? That everyone sprinkles you with Fairy Dust and Unicorn farts about how such a nice fellow makes the effort to apologize and leave it at that?

Personal attacks shows who has the problem here.
Again if there is no need to apologize, there is no need for that post.Ask for a mod to remove/close it.
If you want to apologize, then apologize to said person and not create a topic in a forum that he possibly is not member.
We are not accusing you for anything. You alone posted that you won unfairly and wanted to apologize.I personally tell you what would be a good thing to do,in order to
a.Apologize to that racer (via a PSN pm -example-).
b.Show that you mean it (by waiting said player to pass you).
Tell me again, whats the point of this topic? If that "guy" you rammed is not a member here (or never gonna read this) then there is no actual point,is there?

You are quite clearly correct from now on I will adopt your method of racing.

I'm curious as to why this thread was created when you could have just sent a message over PSN.
Didn't get his name at the time, but yeah that would have been ideal. To be honest I only started thinking a lot about it today for some reason.
