New Method of Replay Review Discovered:

More than 2 years after the release of GT5, the GTP_Race Admin staff have finally discovered a method of extracting previously unavailable information from Gran Turismo 5 Replays. This information includes -

  • Use of Skid Recovery Force (SRF)
  • Use of cars from "Favorites" List (GT Mode/Tunable) in Arcade Mode Events
  • Horsepower Settings
  • Weight
  • Added Parts
  • Tuning Adjustments (Exact settings used on car)

This is clearly an important discovery, as it gives our membership absolute assurance of a level playing field when participating in events. It also opens up new possibilities for the structure of weekly Time Trials, even potentially allowing us to require cars that are 100% stock, with no added parts, removed weight, or tuning adjustments.

Analysis of Submitted Replays:

The race admin staff have performed a review of more than 2,000 previously submitted Time Trial replays, from nearly 400 members. The good news, and something our community should be very proud of, is that the vast majority of our membership comply with the rules set forth in our events. To a great extent, we have been operating on the honor system, and this review has proven that we have a very honorable base of members.

Statistical highlights of the review -

  • 99% of analyzed replays had Skid Recovery Force set to "Off".
  • 99.4% of analyzed replays used the correct car and settings.
  • 9 Members (2%) used SRF on a total of 19 submissions. Only 2 members used this setting more than one time.
  • 7 Members (2%) used a "Favorites" car on an arcade week. Only 2 members used an incorrect car more than 1 time.
  • 1 of those members, GTP_Twitchy, had already been discovered, removed from the registry, and banned from the site.

Non-Compliant Replays - Actions and Penalties:

We will be handling disciplinary action for past infringements on a case by case basis. It's important for everyone to keep in mind that this was an extensive review that looked at the majority of submitted replays covering more than 2 years of WRS participation. Many of the members whose replays have shown issues do not currently participate in our events. At this time, we're mainly focused on multiple time offenders, as we believe their actions reflect clear intent, rather than honest mistakes.

Before reaching out to any members that have submitted replays with incorrect cars or settings, we're giving multiple time offenders a chance to come forward and admit that they have used an illegal car or aid.

If you are one of those members, please contact us via Private Message. PM's can be sent to any of the following -

EDK
Gravitron
MadMax86
Sjaak
Vaxen
WRP001

If you are one of these members, come forward now. You will be shown some leniency, and may even retain your place in the registry.

If you do not come forward and are in turn determined to be guilty of the offenses we suspect you of, you will be removed from the registry, and your site account may also be in jeopardy.

A PM is being sent to ALL registry members. You will have one week from the time you receive that PM to make contact with us. After one week, this offer will expire, and you will be subject to the full punishment.

Scrutiny of our Review Method:

While we cannot reveal the detail behind our review process, we will allow for public discussion and scrutiny of our review methods. If you do not believe we can identify use of an illegal car or illegal aids, post multiple replays with varying settings in this thread, and we will identify which settings are contained in which replays.

We'll give members up to 2 weeks to post these replays. After that time, the future review process noted below will go into effect.

Future Replay Reviews:

Going forward, we will make an automated review of all submitted replays. We reserve the right to DQ replays for illegal cars, settings or aids. While we acknowledge that our proof is not transparent or accessible to all, we will subject our process to scrutiny by our membership, as stated above.

This is a very exciting discovery, and a very positive one for our community at large. Thanks to all of our members for your participation in our events and support of the registry.

Wow, what a fantastic breakthrough! 👍 Such a shame it's only come about now. Still, we have a good 5 or 6 months left of GT5 WRS so we can enjoy some varied stock no-tuning events. It does beg the question though; if the information is there, why have PD not made it accessible? I'll never understand some of the strange omissions they make....

Anyway, great find chaps and an awe-inspiring amount of work in going through all those replays. [Applause]

You guys are incredible. You all put in far more effort than I ever imagined. This is a fantastic discovery and will surely make for even more fun and varied combos. Nice job.

Awesome to hear!
Its great to see how the system based on honesty worked very good as well! :)

Over 99% rate for clean submissions, WRS is about as honest a group of competitiors as you can find.

Excellent news!

Good to know we're competing against other players with integrity.

Though if anyone has the need to cheat they are not going to improve their own skills and are only cheating themselves at the end of the day!

I consistently place under where I would love to be, but I feel privileged to be competing against some of the best in the world and am proud to be part of this honest and furiously fast community.

I've been impressed with the stewards and admins since I joined the database. You guys put in a great amount of work, and it shows in a well organized, competitive, and fun league. Keep up the great work, and many thanks. :gtpflag::cheers:

99% Dang it! I thought I was so bad cause every one else was cheating! Now I got absolutely no excuse!

On the other hand, great work guys. Hopefully this discovery will work in GT6 also.

Very impressive, indeed! I'm very proud to be part of such an awesome and honest bunch!

Wow that's amazing, glad to see many respect the rule, a tip of the hat to wrs members 👍 great discovery guys, amazing hard work 👍 hope the same info can be dug out in gt6

Great to see that this is an honest bunch. I've never had a doubt but I enjoy being proven right. :D

Fantastic news that we can now run hundreds more cars in stock conditions - McLaren F1 anybody? That you guys sifted through over 2000 replays is simply awesome - Thank You!

Well done...hopefully it works in GT6 as well. 👍👍

Excellent job, well done.Must have been a very huge amount of work to dig through all those replays...
It's a pitty these details are not visible for everyone who's checking replays.
And for the 1%....👎

Good job guys, and whilst I didn't think anything otherwise it's a great confirmation that the WRS guys are clean....any way that auto checker could slow a few down a bit so I can keep up?

Wow 2 years of replays is such a massive undertaking but a very worthy cause  Well done guys for all the hard work! 👍 to find an overall 99% honesty stat after 123 races and hundreds of Global entrants is a fantastic result, a fine tribute to a great racing series... Long live the WRS :sly:👍

Finally... Bravo and  to the clever chap who invested his time until he came up with a solid verification solution just like he did for GT4 and GT5P also ;) Nice one mate 👍

Cheers
Ron.

I always thought that that information would be encoded in the replay files in some manner and also that PD's lack of putting in an information field about the settings used for the demo was a great oversight.

For you guys to have processed that many replays it seems likely to be a custom PC app that's reading and dissecting the replay files looking for specific bits.

Nice! Good work admins and great show drivers! GTP is a group of honest, fair drivers with integrity and class regardless of the level of skill and I respect that honesty more than anything.

Great job guys!! 👍

Imagine how many stock cars you can use now... :D

This is the same thought that I had when I read the OP, nicely put together.
