Subaru -

Concept

The B11S was developed to pursue the concept of Gran Utility Turismo, which embodies the perfect blend of sporty driving, comfort, functionality and elegance. The car incorporates all the crucial ingredients of this concept. It features attractive styling and packaging, which further reflect FHI’s corporate philosophy, Innovative, Individual and Courageous; Subaru’s technological strengths, such as the horizontally-opposed engine and a Symmetrical AWD system; and driving performance equivalent to a high-performance sports car for the enthusiast.

Exterior design

The exterior design, composed of sophisticated flowing curves, expresses an elegant, sleek Coupe, while the car comfortably accommodating four adults. The front fascia, which fortifies its sporty look, conjures the turbine of a small jet plane and the freedom of flying wings—an association with FHI’s corporate roots as an aircraft company, as well as a reminder of outstanding aerodynamic technology and performance.

The two pairs of side doors open like gates and latch in the middle without a conventional B-pillar, an arrangement that facilitates access to the back seats and makes interior room seem even more spacious. Developed specifically for the B11S, the frosted glass roof provides an open-air feeling, as in a convertible, and it creates a pleasant soft light inside the vehicle that enhances the quality look of its interior. The unique glass roof design was inspired by the design and construction of traditional Japanese umbrellas.

Interior design

In sharp contrast to the white pearl body color, for the interior of the B11S the color blue has been selected influenced by Subaru's characteristic color. Strong emphasis was placed on crafting an understated yet high-quality ambience in the cabin’s design, which is reminiscent of Japanese interior decoration and its attention-to-detail approach. In addition, the folding backseats allow easy access to and from the trunk for luggage or sports equipment. The interior provides a comfortable space for passengers and offers practical solutions at the same time.

Driving performance

The B11S has been equipped with a new, horizontally-opposed, 6-cylinder engine. This engine, which will meet both the needs of driving pleasure and the demands of environmental considerations, is currently under development. Thanks to twin-turbocharger, the engine will ensure a smooth ride in low- and middle-speed ranges while it achieves a maximum output of 400 hp and a maximum torque of 406 lb-ft of torque.

The Symmetrical AWD system integrated with a 5-speed automatic transmission comes with VTD (variable torque distribution), Subaru’s unique, electronically controlled torque distribution system. While the basic torque distribution ratio of front to rear wheels is set at 35% and 65%, respectively, the VTD optimally controls the torque distribution between front and rear wheels according to driving conditions and realizes a high level of balance between the yawing tendency of a vehicle and highspeed stability.

 It's not an impreza concept. It's designed to be a successor to that old 1500 kg Alcyone coupe Subaru used to make.

Rest assured the Impreza is NOT going to be replaced by that... thing... :odd:

They need to chuck that front end out - only Alfa Romeo can get away with that sort of front end styling.

The thing that struck me with this concept is that there are NO Subaru elements in the styling - apart from the badging, there's nothing there to suggest that this car is a Subaru - to my eyes it looks like (leaving aside the front end for a moment) a Renault version of the RX-8.

Well, reconsidering it for a moment - the fog light inserts kind of remind me of the treatment on the current Legacy/Liberty

It's pretty nice. You should see the NEW Legacy B4 Spec B. Twin scroll turbo, 3000-3200lbs only with stiffer chassis...muahaha

Heh, agreed. It kind of looks like it could be the new Nissan 400Z.

I like the specs on it...But it just doesn't follow the Subaru "tradition" of weird stylings yet very nice looking..Thats' weird..but it's somewhat of an eye sore..The back end resembles either a 350z or a new accord V6....And the front fascia looks sort of like Aston Martin had some say in it's design....I hope it never see's production in that form, or any form similar to that..If so then all the cars from japan will slowly begin to look more and more like the 350z..Which will suck

i should have just posted subaru concept! but meh! get people thinking what subaru are capable of!

It's just that Subaru usually seems to put out more rugged looking cars, like you could take them off road and get them dirty. This one doesnt look all that rugged, and it's really low too.

I hate it. Way to rip-off the RX-8.

Well we now know what a child of the RX-8 and the 350z would look like. Thanks Subaru for answering that question for all those that were wondering.

Its designed to sell. Bottom line. "If you can't beat them, join them," should be the solgan for this car.

Just my thoughts. ;)

Well I voted Different. But if I hadn't read lower that it won't replace the Impreza, I would've voted bleagh! Just curious, am I the only one that thinks ImBreza would sound better?

Slightly edited, and this "quote" perfectly describes what I was having trouble putting into words.

On another note, I do like it... but it's not what I think of when I think of Subaru.

It looks crappier than a 350Z. But not by much. Im guessing Subaru want a sport car, that looks like a sport car... that looks like the 350Z, with the front of the 350Z incorporated with elements of AlfaRomeo, and the rear end so damn close to that of the Z.

If subaru wanted a sports car it's as simple as reopening the 22B project, throw a new bodystyle, or heck just STI headlights, keep it a 2 door, and leave the beast as it is, there's the sports car that will kick butt for years

👍

Agreed. I don't think Subaru really wants to be seen as a preformance company, though, and with the STi out in all major markets now it probably won't be doing any real developing of sports cars (aside from stupid concepts like this one).

maybe the front is like that because it has a really really big intercooler LOL, anyways rememeber its a CONCEPT so its suppose to be ugly
