Improving you times in Rivals mode

This is my little guide to getting better times in Rivals mode, this isn't going to earn you lots of credits. But you should be able to shave a second or so off your times. Maybe you have already tried this, but here goes. Instead of racing the next person to you, race against the leader board topper. For me racing the person next to me is very off putting as they are always quite close to you, sometimes blocking your view of the corner. Where as the leader boards fastest will always be a few car lengths in front, not only that but they no where all the short cuts you are allowed to take are. Take the Top Gear track for instance, you can pretty much cut out the first part of Chicago saving you about a second. Plus there other little cuts you can make which I didn't no about until I raced the fastest person. Yes this is cheating but if you want to climb the leader boards you have to do it. Its not only about knowing where the short cuts are though, you can learn a lot off the faster racers, learn there lines, braking points, turn in points etc.

Indeed good points you have there, but I'd like to add: remember that leaderboard cars are there for å reason. you simply have to use them to get to the top. also, a good setup is not necessary the one rated highest on the storefront. its the tune that fits YOU the best.

a setup is not the most important, its your own skill, so practice practice practice to get up high!

I'm doing exactly that on the British heavyweight rival time attack, and i am currently about 2,5 seconds from first. I'm tweaking my car after each stint, and i am proud to say that it keeps on improving. keep in mind that I am NOT a pro tuner, I have just read through threads describing how to tune.

best of luck for all you rivals out there!

oh sorry I mean just for the stock events really

It's a bad idea to race any of the top 100 or so people. Those are the select few with skills most of us don't posses. Instead, pick someone in the 200 or 300 range or someone 2 or so seconds off pace. That way, they still make a mistake or two and are close enough where you can see their. Someone in the top 100, will usually be way off to help in any way.
