Filming has already begun on the fourth installment. I loved the original Indiana Jones films and I hope that this turns out to be just as good. As with most modern sequels I always worry that it is going to fail miserably.

Directed by: Steven Spielberg
Story by: George Lucas
Screenplay by: David Koepp
Executive Producers: George Lucas & Kathleen Kennedy
Produced by: Frank Marshall

Confirmed Actors so far:

Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones)

Shia LaBeouf (Character to be confirmed, also starred in Transformers)

Cate Blanchett (Character to be confirmed, also starred in LOTR)

John Hurt (Abner Ravenwood)

Ray Winstone (Character to be confirmed, also starred in King Arthur)

Jim Broadbent (Hot Fuzz, also starred in Chronicles of Narnia)

Should be released 22nd May 2008.

A few teaser videos here but obviously too early to see any actual film footage.

In a long-awaited announcement, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg revealed today that the fourth installment of Indiana Jones will begin production in June 2007. Harrison Ford returns in his role as the daring Dr. Jones for the new adventure. The film will be produced by Lucasfilm Ltd., directed by Steven Spielberg and released by Paramount Pictures throughout the world on Thursday, May 22, 2008.

The screenplay has been written by David Koepp.

Spielberg states "George, Harrison and I are all very excited. We feel that the script was well worth the wait. We hope it delivers everything you'd expect from our history with Indiana Jones."

The film will be produced by Frank Marshall with George Lucas and Kathy Kennedy as executive producers. "Working with Steven, Frank, Kathy and the Indy crew is like working with family," states Lucas. "These films are such great fun to make. I'm looking forward to reuniting with the team and starting this new journey."

The film has plenty of action in store for the rogue archeologist. Harrison Ford comments " I'm delighted to be back in business with my old friends. I don't know if the pants still fit but I know the hat will. "

It will be shot on undisclosed locations around the world as well as in the United States.

For more than 25 years, audiences have been enraptured by the exploits of Indiana Jones. The film trilogy -- Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade -- garnered 14 Academy Award nominations, won 7 Oscars, and grossed over $1,182,000,000 at the box office. The films are among the most popular films ever made and have become a legendary part of film history.

I can't help but worry this will get botched up. During early preproduction I know Harrison Ford was trying to push too much influence, like getting his girflriend (Calista Flockhart sp?) cast, and whatnot. So now I have this image of it suddenly becoming an environmental message film and forgetting its popcorn fun.

Its a shame. The lack of Sean Connery already guarantees that it won't be the fitting end the series deserves, even less so than the recent bookends for other long running series (Die Hard, Rocky).

Indeed, a shame. I was really looking forward to this movie when I heard about it a year or more back (when Connery was supposed to be in on the project).
Without Sean Connery I don't think this will be the success it could have been since "The Last Crusade" was such an awesome way to create a trilogy.

I get the feeling now that it should be left at that but hopefully I'm wrong. :D

Agreed... Connery really helped finish off the "Trilogy" part with good closure - Finger crossed they don't /&¤# it all up !....

Well...they did a good job with Die Hard 4.0 and a pretty decent job with Rocky...I'm sure they can bring it somewhere close to the levels it should be...or they could do an Alien Resurrection and bring out the worst of the series and practically murder Ford's career.

I have confidence in the cast and crew, and the story (based on leaked photos) appears to take place during the Cold War in the middle 1950s. That would explain why Indy's son is more than 20 years of age...

It should be a good run. Ford already said, with some confidence, that this will be the last one he will do. The rumor now is that LeBouf will take hold of the lead role, doing his own Jones franchise as his son...

It should be interesting.

Dr. Jones III?

Anyway, what is it with this year and the comeback movies? How many old franchises must we rehash with the original, over the hill, actors? While, I'll admit I did like Rocky Balboa, I haven't seen Live Free or Die Hard yet, and whether they are good or not does not end the fact that Hollywood is out of ideas.

Plus, Spielberg and Lucas haven't been hitting homeruns lately, as far as I'm concerned.

Looks pretty Indiana Jones-ish, meaning that it seems they tried to preserve the previous movies charm, instead of doing the "everything has to be much bigger and much louder this time!"-thing. This could be a good movie...

Yesssssssssssssss!

I haven't been that overly excited about a trailer since Transformers. The Indy movies are some of my favorites (Star Wars still takes the top spots), but yeah, I can't wait!

Ditto'd with that... that trailer was a nice taster of what to expect. Looks awesome! :dopey:

I don't know if I'd be too thrilled to see the story about Dr. Jones III, than Indiana Jones. I mean, Harrison Ford is Indy just like Willis is John McClane.

But I have a great amount of faith in the story, esp. when the directors are not only the originals, but Spielburg & Lucas.

I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty excited for this movie. The originals were the reason I wanted to pursue archaeology in the first place when I was kid. It's a shame it's not really like that though.

Didn't you say your professor had a name for folks who hunt for treasure purely for the discovery and nothing more?

Ya they are called pothunters. We've actually had a discussion about this in one of my anthropology classes before about whether Indiana Jones promotes this or not. I honestly don't think he does before he thinks the artifacts belong in a museum and that he is a professor to begin with.

Wait, what!!!

Next you'll tell me cops don't get in gun fights and blow stuff up everyday.

In all seriousness, as long as the original feel of the movie is there this shoudl be good. It is a shame that Connery didn't sign on though.

LeBouf showed he can be a more serious actor and I think how he dioes in thsi will tell me whether he has some range or whether he is just playing himself in everything he does. In other words, I had better forget he is Sam Witwicky after his first scene.

Interesting side note: I did get to visit Rainbow Falls where they did some filming of the movie. I saw it from both the helicopter and the ground. Looks like a great setting.

You'd be surprised how many people think Indiana Jones is what a typical archaeologist is.

So, you're hoping LeBouf isn't the next Nicholson. ;)

With the movie only a few days away who is excited? I can't wait for it to hit the theatres although I can't see it until Friday since I have to be in the field every morning this week rather early. I want to see it at midnight Wednesday night but having to be up early the next morning isn't going to work.

They are showing a program about Indy on the History Channel right now and it's getting geeked up for the movie.

Sadly it's getting mediocre reviews, but I always take those with a gain of salt.

Yeah, but critics usually walk in and assess a film's worth as a potential Oscar nominee. That's why they're useless, because films like Indiana Jones aren't about winning awards. They're about having fun; an enjoyable two hours. The Chicago Sun-Times' Roger Ebert is about the only critic worth reading; I've only ever known him to be wrong twice: he rated both Die Another Day and Cloverfield far higher than either deserved. He gave a pretty good review of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - even if it is spoilerific - and rated it 3.5 out of 4.

How's this for promotion?

I love the paint scheme and the firesuit!

That's very novel.

Anyone seen the film as yet? I know it's only 3:00pm here in Australia so it probably hasn't even ticked over to May 22nd in America, but I'm just wondering if anyone has seen it (my ownself is catching the 7:00pm screeing tonight) ...

Not yet... The plan is to go to the first showing tomorrow morning (11AM - its 1:30AM here), but we'll see. Depends on if my brother is going with me or not. Chances are I'll end up seeing it twice this week. The IJ franchise is my Mom's all time favorite (Star Wars is second), so I'm sure I'll be taking her as well.
