Ran this race in B-spec with the Bobs using the Toyo Minolta. Didn't give Bob any help and he finished in 4th. Ran it again this time staying on Bobs rear and it turned out to be an exciting race:
The Participants
Audi R8 Race Cars
Auti R8 Race Cars (Playstation)
Pescarolo C60 Hybride
Audi R10 TDI
Toyota Minolta (The Team)
The Set Up
Hard Racing
Transmission tuned to a max speed of 255 MPH
The first five laps the pack battled for position.
On lap 6 four cars broke out:
Red Audi R8
Yellow Audi R8
Blue Pescarolo
Toyota Minolta
The battle was intense through lap 26 when the two Audi's ran for the pits.
I was surprised the Minolta couldn't break out from the pack. All four cars would hold the lead and each position 1-4.
The stress on the driver remained high even directing him to slow the pace. I worried he'd make a fatal mistake and fall WAY behind!
The Audi's pitted followed by the Pescarolo on 26. The Minolta on 33. Hoping to get in and out quick I limited the fuel intake to 65 liters resulting in 3/4 of a tank and stayed with racing hard tires since they were only 60% worn.
Exited the pits in 4th place down 9.78 seconds. Didn't know if we could catch up, since it was an even field over the first 26 laps. But surprise surprise a good thing happened! Bob started catching up.
Lap 35 - in 3rd down 7.348 secs
Lap 37 - 3rd down 6.159
38 - 3rd down 4.854.
As I looked at the Live Timing Monitor I noticed the Audi's (Red & Yellow) battling for the lead.
Lap 40 - down 1.668 secs
41 - took the lead crossing the line, up .008 secs.
What happened? Why was Bob so much faster? Weight reduction. Was only carring 3/4 of a tank of fuel and the Audis were full! That wasn't in my mind when I decided to limit the fuel intake. I just wanted to get in and out faster and back into the race. Didn't want to fall too far behind.
Now the concern was how often would I need to pit taking the lighter draw.
That question wouldn't be answered for awhile.
Lap 43 - up 3.613 and 45 - up 5.215.
This was going to be won or lost against the Audi's. They were 2,3,4 and 6. The Pescarolo 60 dropped to 5th.
Lap 48 - up 9.063 secs the Yellow Audi is in second.
Lap 50 - 25% tire wear on the Minolta. Total elapsed time 38:58. Up 11.524 secs.
Lap 53 - Pecarolo Courange down 2 laps, Pecarolo 60 in 5th place.
Lap 55 - Up 23.352 secs - 7 of 12 cars down at least 1 lap.
Bob Pits the Minolta on lap 56 - we go for 75 liters and stay with Racing Hard tires. The Audi takes the lead with 50% tread wear and 1/3 tank remaining. The Audi pits on lap 58.
That gives the Minolta back the lead on 59 by 2.159.
From lap 60 - 63 would stretch the lead from 7.64 to 29.348 secs. But who would pit when would be the key.
Lap 65 - the Audi R10 is last down 3 laps. With the Red & Yellow Audi's still battling for 2nd.
Lap 68 - finally get a lap up on the two Audi's, but by lap 75 the Minolta appears to be losing ground. Need new tires.
The Minolta pits on 83 - taking the same 75 liters instead of the 95 offered and again staying with racing hard tires.
We're 4th out of the pits and down 32.562 by lap 85. Good news though, the Audi's head for the pits!
By lap 87 the Minolta had the lead back and a lap up on the Red Audi by lap 89.
Bad news! Asahara is back in the car with only 40% strength and only slightly greater mental strength. Missing the missing Bobs! Only have three for the team. Worried about their performance and endurance going forward!
Lap 92 Up 1 & 1/4 laps on the Red Audi. On lap 98 Asahara runs out of strength.
With a couple pit stops complete I can now begin to estimate when we'd need to pit in the future. Looking at lap 110, 137, 164 and 191. Wanna get that 191 greater than 200 (end of the race). Going to need to take extra fuel to do that. Lets see where we are when the time comes.
Pit on 110 as calculated and this time we take a full tank of gas and switch to racing softs. Hoping the softs will help offset the extra weight and keep us at least at current distance. The Yellow Audi now holds 2nd down 1 min 28 seconds and the Red in 3rd down 1 min 33 seconds.
The Minolta is out of the pit in 4th again. Two laps later moved into second down only 3.577 secs.
Crossing lap 114 in a dead heat with the Audi's! Advantage Minolta when the Audi's pit on 114.
3 laps later both Audi's are down 1 lap.
Fuel heavy not getting any seperation from the Audi's. Still holding the one lap lead. The plan is coming to light. At minimum maintain position and eliminate that last pitstop.
Next pit should be 143.
123 - Yellow Audi now down 2 laps.
128 - Yellow down 2 Red down 3 in 3rd place.
135 - Audi's still down 2 & 3 and the lead is extending.
138 - 1/4 tank left on the Minolta Planning to switch back to racing hard tires. The Softs are wearing much faster, particularly the right rear. At the pit the right rear only has 20% tread remaining.
141 - Yellow Audi in 2nd, down 2.5 laps.
If I get a full tank on the next pit and 3/4 tank on the pit after I should only have to pit on 176 and 203! Perfect!
For some strange reason the yellow Audi pits on 142. Almost a 1/2 tank remaining and only 50% tire wear! That's too early! That's it, it's over! Game, set, match!
145 - Minolta pits. We go with a full tank which should get us to 178. Heavy and just want to maintain the current distance.
Lap 147 - 2 lap lead on both Audi's.
152 - Total Time Elapsed 2:01:18. Should hit 200 at about 2:40.
153 - 3 laps on the Audis!
160 - Red Audi in 2nd down 3 laps, yellow Audi in 3rd down 4 laps.
Had been keeping the Bobs at 3/4's aggressive. On 163 reduced that to 60%. Don't need any mistakes now.
164 - Half tank of fuel remaining, only 30% tire wear.
175 - Tires almost 70% wear, less than 1/4 tank. The Audi's are down 3 & 4.
180 - Minolta to the Pits. 56 liters recommended took 70, with Racing Hards. Audi's at little more than 1/2 tank and very little tire wear. They must have recently pitted.
182 - Yellow Audi down 2 laps, Red down 3.
185 - Battling Yellow Audi to add another lap to the lead.
191 - Audi's still down 2 & 3.
197 - Both Audi's now down 3 laps.
200 - Crossed the line with a three lap lead at the 2:40:46 mark.
