Hello everyone here is the link to the new trailer for Initial D The Movie, This looks great, especially if you are a fan of the Anime series. 👍 👍

Nooo. if you are a fan of the anime series... you wont be able to stomach it. lol. after watching about 30 minutes of it... even when skipping through some parts. i couldnt get past the 30 minute mark with out feeling a bit discusted with how they totally butchered the plot. :D

They mixed up the roles of certian characters like Keiuske and Nakazoto... The drifting was good though

wow what a shame, from the trailer it looked good. ahh well look like Japan is taking leads from the world of hollywood and ruining movies that had potential. real shame.

nooo, the movie was not even made in Japan. Do u think they are speaking japanese? lol sounds like chinese... but i havent seen the movie in a long time so i'm not sure.

The movie was awfull in my honest opinion, Chinese ruined it :(

that trailer is dubbed, i knew it was a Chinese Production just forgot thats all :dunce:

I will watch anyway and see whats its like formyself, but from the trailer i liked what i saw, but i will bare in mind thats its been skrewed. so many films im waiting for and over in the UK we get everything last :(, the new shinobi film looks good too.

I've seen up to the middle of the second series, but that was a long time ago and I don't erally remember it so I might as well give this a try.

There was a thread for this movie while back, and somebody did say it's a Hong Kong flick. Sorry to hear it sucks! :indiff:

My friend lent me the dvd and for some reason i've been putting off watching it.

See i've got this feeling that it's not going to be very good.

i've watched the series up to when keisuke gets a new RX-7 that looks like it has RE-Amemiya body kit, i think 4th stage ep 18, i'll check out the movie later.

The movie was a ok could of been better. They should left to the original creators to make the movie. The last battle was good, the song they played at the last battle was good got me pumped. whats that song called any one know !!??!!!

Yes, the movie sucked. The first time. I had a dodgy copy that was not subbed right. In the beginning it was OK with a few name changes, but half way through things got really freaky and it looked like the translation was made WORD FOR WORD.. it made me dizzy just trying to read it..

The movie was made in HK by chinese and they didn't stay true to the story. The only part of the movie that stayed, compared to the series, was the story between Takumi and Natsuke.. The rest was pure HK, so the true Japanese story had been lost in translation.

There were just so many inconsistancies that it got annoying to watch, as an Initial D fan. As I see it, a major character in the series is Mt Akina. Though there are helicopter shots of the 5 hairpins, probably the only part actually shot in Japan (You do know that they're all real roads right?), there are scenes in the movie where they pass through a tunnel.. Where's the tunnel at Mt Akina?!.. don't think there is. :grumpy:

The second time around I had a copy with proper subtitles and this time I decided to watch it for what it was, a Chinese movie about street racing. I actually enjoyed it more, though I did have a few cans ;)

There was quite abit of comedy in it that I missed the first time due to the crappy translation and the driving/drifting scenes were good enough, considering they were Chinese stunt drivers and not Japanese Drifters.

So, all in all it was watchable and I DID enjoy it and as a fan of the series, you've got to watch it no matter how **** everyone says it is. It's like watching a movie with your favourite actor/actress. Sometimes you watch it for the pure enjoyment of watching your favourite star on the silver screen, and sometimes you watch just to see how bad it really is..

That said, it's all good.. after a few.. :dopey:

I liked the movie, at least the driving scenes 👍 . The rest of the movie threw me off as I only recognize the Anime. I've heard that it follows the manga, can this be backed up?

If you watched it with no sound or subtitles it looks like it does. But, here are a few things that are different..

The leader of the NightKids (forgot name) wants to race Ryosuke.. Ryo pretty much says "You conquer the left side of Gunma, I'll conquer the right. We meet in the middle and then do battle".. so in other words he must prove himself first.

Itsuke doesn't work at the gas station, his Dad owns it. He also drives an S13 at the beginning until he see's Takumi win with the 86.

Takumi's mother left his father so now Bunta is a drunk.. and is quite perverted.

Bunta teaches Takumi how to drive the 86 after it's been modified, where as in the series you never see Bunta and Takumi in the same car. It's assumed that Bunta taught Takumi driving techniques years ago, but left it to him to figure out how to drive faster..

Bunta actually shows up to a race as apposed to the commentary by the gas station manager in the series.. almost the same dialog though

They're just a few things, but the general story line is there..

Just got the DVD shipped from Hong Kong and watched it this week, and I must say it could've certainly been worse! I guess I expected the worst and am now surprised that things aren't as bad as I imagined (Gotta mention that I've only seen a couple episodes of the Initial D TV anime series, but I've never read the manga).

Downside:
• Yes, seems like they butchered the storyline pretty much
• Some characters are missing/mixed up
• Technical drifting details are not as accurate as in the anime (not too bad, though)

Upside
• Some pretty good lighting and camera work for a eastern movie
• The drifting isn't too bad most of the time, a bit too much corner-entry E-braking
• Bunta's look when he's about to install the racing engine in the hachiroku :D
• The Hong Kong stunt drivers crashed ONLY 1 AE 86 when making this movie
• Anne Suzuki is cute... :D

So I found it to be really not that bad. I'd still recommend watching it.

Holy crap, she really does look like my cousin. I watched this finally over the weekend. I thought they did alright. TBH, I fell asleep in the climax race, didn't bother rewatching it. :P But I really liked the movie and it was very funny as well. You can just forget about acting, but some were still good. Very interesting actors. 👍 Gas station owner's son looked like young Sammo Hung. :D It's a good rental and I'd give it a "C".

As for the DVD, it has a excellent documentary and the DTS surround was just superb.

I've seen her in the "Returner". She looks just like my cousin!

Bastard! Can ya introduce me? :dopey:

Maybe my friend with the same last name knows her, he knows everyone or is related to everyone... litterally. :scared:

I wish Japanese film industry had what it takes to make a film like this, but they don't. :indiff: While it wasn't fantastic or anything, I thought the Chinese did very well.....

Oh, btw, my cousin got married last year. :D

I actually rented this the other day and I liked it. It was like Fast and the Furious with better acting and there was a plot, not to mention the cars were pretty cool. I've never seen the anime so I don't know how it compares.

The story was really corny and we get to see how anime reactions in real-life look really dumb (Everyone celebrating after the last race). One the bright side, there wasn't much CGI in the movie and if it was used it was really blatant (the scene with the Evo III). The cars also looked like real-life versions of their anime counterparts.

Still, does anyone else think it was weird when Nakazato was drifting his R32 GTR?
