Well I was playing 6-a-side last night with the lads in a little league we play in and I made a foolish slip up. I attempted to change direction quickly on brand new 3G pitch, which has lots of the little black rubber balls all over it. In doing do I lost my footing and ended up going over on my ankle. Instead of just twisting it, I went a full 180 degrees over on it, as in the knee was still in line with my foot (front and back). The fall was lateral (if that makes sense). As I was tumbling over I heard some sort of 'snap' or 'click'. I don't know what I have done to my ankle but it is the most painful thing I have ever endured, and I have been in hospital with broken limbs many a time. This was more painful than getting my back driven into when racing, and I have no idea what's wrong with it. If anyone has any idea what I have done to it with a treatment or ways to reduce pain it would be greatly appreciated!

You should probably get it looked at professionally. It sounds like you may have damaged or snapped one of the ligaments in your ankle. At the very least, you probably strained it quite badly. Can you flex your ankle at all? Like point your toe down and up without pain?
In the meantime, keep it elevated and iced up. But please get it looked at, because this could be a rather serious injury.

I can flex it a bit, but it just hangs limp when I sit down. I got some ice on it and it's up on the Sofa arm. I may go into the doctors or something tomorrow, see how it is in the morning 👍

Ouch, that sounds nasty buddy, hope it's not too bad. As said above, you want to keep it rested, on ice, compressed and elevated if it's a muscle/soft tissue thing.

If it's as bad as it sounds, you should really get it checked out 👍

EDIT: Seeing how it is tomorrow is a good idea though thinking about it. I had the most painful slip of my entire life playing rugby last year and my legs just went different ways when I fell, actually thought I'd broken them. But after a few hours of general pain and then stiffness, it was all good so see if it improves with the rest, ice etc.

oh damn, was at training earlier today, the ground was really boggy, and I did it again :grumpy:. My foot stayed in the ground, and my knee was at 90 degrees to it, and it was either my ankle or my leg that would go, and it was the ankle again. Anyone know how I can make it 'stronger'?

If you've done the same thing a couple of times you might want to get it checked out because you might have an underlying weakness in that part of your body. If you got it looked at, a doctor could probably tell you how to strengthen it and prevent further injury.

Yeah, I'd recommend to get it looked at, too. Aside from that, you might want to look at some support bandages. I've had some issues with my elbow not being up to stress I put on it at the gym. I eventually bought a Bauerfeind support bandage and everything's been perfectly fine ever since. Not exactly cheap, but worth it.

Something like that should give you more stability and protect your ankle from getting twisted as easily. I can't offer any advice on how to strengthen your ankle, though. It's possible to further develop the protective muscles around your elbow, but I don't know about anything similar in regard to the ankle.

Get well soon, though 👍

You seem to have a similar shared kind of injury as I do with my knee, when I change direction too quickly it's my Knee that does that!

Can't see your GP, why not try the GTPlanet forums?

...

Hahahahahaaha. Seriously, just see a doctor mate.
