ok today when i decided to come on to GTP, around 5ish, i clicked on the internet and nothing happend. (like the lil hour glass thing came up and it went away like usualy but the internet did not come) so i have to take the long way onto the internet just to get on ( my computer then type in an internet addy) and my parents should be home in about 14 hours or less and they are not going to go with this. so anybody who knows how to fix this, understood that last paragraph please help me (this will be easiest if you gave me help on msn messenger, my email is doze1@hotmail.com) thanks in advance, help please

What do you mean you clicked on the Internet? You mean the Internet Explorer shortcut icon? Or do you mean you can't get dial-in/get connected?

how come your online than?
Notice that he said he could get online, but he had "to take the long way".

ah, i didnt see this forum. my connection works. but my internet explorer shortcut icon (the thing on the desktop to get into the internet) does not work. it puts up the hour glass thing to indicate its loading, but when its done loading nothing happened

this is why i said that msn messenger would be easier because we wouldnt have to be posting like this

Here are some things: ok just ignore what I said before did you try using other icons? Try using a different browser like avant. Or delete that icon and then make another shortcut. Or you might have a virus

I don't have Windows, but knowing what I know about aliases in OS X, chances are you simply need to make a new one, because the current one is either corrupted or the link to IE was somehow broken. Try deleting it (the shortcut icon) and making a new one.

i've used the norton anti and it found nothing. the internet on the desktop, that lil quick click thing in the bottom left corner don't work, and the internet explorer in the start menu does not work.

oh yeah, and i am not very computer smart, just saying make a new shortcut does not help me

Okay, first off, trash the bad shortcut icon on the desktop. Then, find Internet Explorer somehow... somebody with Windows should be able to tell you the path to IE, but I'd assume it'd be in an Applications or Programs folder. Once you get to the IE icon itself, right-click on it, and choose "Make shortcut" or something like that, then drag that new icon to the desktop.

Sorry for the lousy directions, but I haven't used Windows in over a year now, so I'm trying to go off of memory...

Sage got it right, even though he's an Apple user. :P

Go here: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer

Right click on iexplorer.exe and select Create Shortcut. Drag that shortcut to your desktop. Done.

C:\Program Files not C/program files.

If your using Windows XP, goto Display Properties, Desktop, Customize Desktop, tick Internet Explorer.

Start -> Run -> Enter 'C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer' -> Right click and hold 'IEXPLORER' then drag to desktop and let go of mouse button. A little menu will come up with an option to 'Creat Shortcut Here'. Select that one.

no, not what i meant. i have been to the c/ whatever it was... and the i explorer that is in there does not work, if i click on it, make a shortcut of it. nothing. im not searching for it, i know where it is, its just it doesnt work.

i got windows 98 with explorer 6.0 if that helps

reinstalling did not work.
